saddleback.com/... - Prayer doesn’t have to be difficult or confusing. In fact, the Bible says prayer isn’t about saying the right words or being eloquent-it’s about building a relationship with your Heavenly Father who loves you. In this message at Saddleback Church, Pastor Rick Warren shares five truths about God that will transform your prayer life. You’ll come away knowing how to pray with confidence and never have to worry about “saying the right thing” again.

I will keep praying, keep believing no matter how suicidal I feel each minute. As long as God gives me breath to breathe each morning, I believe there are better days out there waiting. Sooner than I expected, problems currently in my life that seem insurmountable will turn around, I will receive explosive blessings that I deserve and birth EVERY dream that God has placed in my heart. AMEN!

Without appearing heartless and insensitive, my recent visit to NZ put me in the middle of Chirstchurch where I visited the white chair memorial to those 185 people who died in the Earthquake. Why would a God (who is capable of everything, apparently) CHOOSE to take these people's lives in this way? Babies. Children. If God needed them for his purposes, surely he could have realised this ahead of time and not put them through a short life and painful death. It beggars belief at how any of this makes sense. I don't want to hear that God works in mysterious ways. If I robbed a bank, horded the money and when convicted, I explained that I was working in mysterious ways and that the money was really being kept from those who would use it for terrible things, in the end, I'm still guilty of theft. Just as God could be argued guilty of the murder and suffering of not just the 185 people who died that day, but of the billions who simply die a horrible death induced by diarrhoea from drinking contaminated water. ACT kindly. Treat each other with respect. Don't waste your time wishing for happiness and for the world to be a better place.

Hello.. I have already watched all sermons of Pastor Rick about prayer, but I don't know if I missed.. I want to ask how can you lead pray in front of (many)people? Is it different? Does the pray has to encourage, motivate someone? Does the person who prays have to be eloquent? Maybe you have to pray often personally so you will be able to lead prayer in public? How is it actually? Thank you Saddleback Church..

I liked this because I initially thought you were laughing at the idiocy of prayer, then realised you were having a shot at my comment. So what have you prayed for that you're being so patient to receive the answer to? I've got a list that you can help me out with: 1. The billions who die from diarrhoea because they're drinking contaminated water. 2. Innocent children and families in the Middle East- Syria, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan to name just a few, being either killed or displaced as their homes are destroyed. 3. Workers in China abused for their cheap labour being forced to work long hours for less than acceptable pay, throwing themselves from buildings in an attempt to commit suicide to escape this terrible life. ...4. Families in Turkey whose idiotic government have caused a massive hyper inflation causing their currency to be worth next to nothing causing massive economic upheaval, along with all the issues that come with all of this.. Need I go on???

I stumbled upon this video looking for new skills to learn and this way up there. Learning how to pray to God? Put your hands together and wish for a bike. That never worked for me. So I decided to pray for something sensible - for my mum and dad to resolve their differences. Nope. They split up. How about world peace? How about food (which we ALREADY have just to be sensibly DISTRIBUTED to those in need? Nope. Apparently that's all too hard for "God". I gave up believing in this silliness too late to be proud of. I should have abandoned it when I abandoned believing in Santa Clause and the tooth fairy. I'm sorry if anybody has been offended, I'm just sharing my experiences and disillusion with the notion of a God.

Does the argument of pain and suffering become simpler, or more complex without faith in God? I, among many other philosophers would argue that it becomes a lot more complex. To start off. without God, where do you base your morals? Do you base them on nature? where rape (as seen with sharks forcibly copulating with other sharks) and theft (as seen with bonobos) is considered natural? With the utmost amount of sympathy with you, I know that it sucks when God lets us down on our prayers. What if God didn't answer your prayers for a bike, and the situation with your parents to be unanswered to prepare you for the insurmountable good that is yet to come? After all, the bible doesn't suggest you won't suffer, it promises it. God created us as working beings, God worked to create us and created us to love work. So, that means in this broken and messed up world we have a lot of work to do. That should excite you! Now you have something worth it to do. Now as Christians you can work towards world peace and to end hunger. Have you ever been to Peru? God has done miraculous things there! Listen, man. God never designed the world to be so messed up and palpable damaged. We human beings made it this way. So God promised us notwithstanding our deep flaws eternal life so we can be given a new hope without which life would frustrate, depress, and upset us. Because we are so blessed we do. And in our faith we can re-evaluate our take on suffering as something to strengthen us.

Bob Jones - how will reading it "seriously" change anything? I'm supposed to believe by reading it seriously will help me understand why an all powerful God (who doesn't care for anyone other than his own followers - how petty is that???) would create such a destructive world. It's all BS, mate. Having said all that, and by reason and logic inferentially knowing there isn't a hell, I'm still not inclined to hurt, kill, maim or do anything particularly untoward toward another person (or animal, for that matter, as I'm vegan). It just looks really embarrassing seeing ADULTS still believe in fairy tales.
@realcoryfrancis
@realcoryfrancis 7 жыл бұрын
TheObsessedGardener It's pretty embarrassing seeing ADULTS use childish ad hominum claims when trying to argue against God and CLAIM to be superior. And yes "seriously." Have you ever READ God's word? There have been numerous cases of followers of Christ being affected by suffering (and if that wasn't the case that would DEBUNK your argument because that would mean God does exist.) Here's some of God's truth "For God so Loved the EARTH (entire earth everyone that HE made) that he gave his one and only Son, so that all who believe in him will not perish but have eternal life." ~John 3:16 Also, that's a good point about logic and inference. Using logic and inference and deduction to the best explanation. I know that this universe is one of great contingency. I also know that 1. Everything that exists in the universe had a cause for it's existence. (I.e. I created a baloney sandwich BECAUSE I was hungry.) 2.The universe began to exist (the big bang.) 3. Therefore, the universe has a cause for it's existence. And the only reasonable explanation for this existence is God.
@TheObsessedGardener

Cory- Oh my *insert name of thousands of deities claimed to be the one true deity over the eons*. I don't know where to start. Let's just get right to the nitty gritty. You claim God exists. You have no proof. You have a couple of millennia old book written by people who couldn't tell their arse from their head. They were farmers and shepherds. Somehow believed they witnessed a man turn water into wine, get killed and rose from the dead to prove a point to a handful of village idiots thousands of years ago. It begs the questions, where is God now? Why show yourself once then disappear? Why did he have to kill himself to help anyone. Why take 7 days to create earth and not one --- and for that matter, why LIE and give us the impression that Earth was the centre of the universe for all life which just by sheer probability is complete nonsense. So let's stop the bible quotes. I've read enough of it from when I was schooled. You believe in rubbish that only served to divide people of different faiths from you (as they are also doing). I don't propose a world of apathetic atheists. I propose a worth of thinkers who place value in life and culture who do their best to eliminate death and harm where possible to make this place a better world to live in. To that effect, I would never hurt anyone who believes in God or is religious (hurt feelings exempted of course ;) I try as best I can to avoid hurting or killing animals (because why not, when we can live off plants super easily?) And I don't advocate violence unless it was to protect your own life from some idiot who doesn't believe in living peacefully themselves. My end game of peaceful living just doesn't need a God. Keep praying if you want, but your God isn't going to give you those wasted hours back when you fall off the perch ;).

Cory, Thanks for taking the time to reply. As I'm vegan, I try to base my morals around a 'cause less harm as possible' philosophy, not around nature- that would be absurd. Why would anyone do that? As you put, the Sharks and bonobos live very different lives than us. Having said THAT, would you disagree with another culture that happily follow their own moral code that may DISAGREE with yours? I think you would. I don't know of any religious belief, except Buddhism where their leader has accepted the existence of other religions. Christians believe there is only one God. So do all the other ones. Someone had to of been lying when all this was written down. It is certainly sad that my parents never got back together. FOr whatever reason that happened, it's made me who I am now. Maybe I would have been stronger/different ever followed another career path. I'll never know. What I do know is that I've got the rest of my life to enjoy because I've only got one so I better make the most of it.
@realcoryfrancis

You simply are not getting it! And so you continue to post offensive rubbish to stroke your ego. So what if you're a vegan? is that right? according to whom?? I'm sure as the "moral" person you are, you would think rape is extremely deplorable. But Boko Haram would beg to differ! Without a supreme being, higher than ourselves to impose moral values and duties that ALL would follow. OBJECTIVE moral values and duties VANISH and it becomes moral bedlam. Your entire argument falls apart because it presupposes a value in every living being. But on the big scale, who cares about your values? Why should anyone follow your morals? Without God, your ENTIRE argument falls apart sir.

just a quick correction sir God is not a woman and a man God is 100% a man. He is referred to as the Son of Man, heavenly father so on. one more thing every time an angel appeared to a prophet in the Bible that prophet or person referred to the angel as Lord not lady. I'm not trying to attack you or insult you in anyway maybe it's Holy Spirit trying to tell you something through me to you. anyways God bless you great message.

Well he didn't say that God was both man and woman, he said that He contains (within His character/nature) both masculine and feminine qualities. Both of those qualities (within sonship) are perfectly expressed through ourselves, being a man and a woman, this again plays back into us being made in His image. But, keep in mind masculinity and femininity are terms that we use to categorize these qualities to better understand them in a human context. Although these qualities are physically manifested through us, we can still see them as being symbolic in a fashion. Think of it this way.... 1. The church (the body of Christ) is referred to as a her/she. 2. When referring to our adoption as a child of God, we are all called sons not daughters. 3. When referring to our spirit and His Spirit becoming one together, we are referred to as brides, not grooms. The sons (Christians) that make up the body of Christ, are called brides. The church body is the bride of Christ. So all of that is presently true while, still, we are separately male and female. Through His Word, God has expressed Himself using symbolic figurations of physical/ceremonial relations that we are familiar with. Hope this helps you out some!

DrAcid12 God has masculine and feminine qualities. I remember one time someone said that God made marriage between one man and one woman because together they both have qualities that are similar to Gods. God leads people and guides them, he is strong, etc. Just like men but he is also loving, caring, and nurturing like a woman
