The actual reason we were on the Angolan border was to protect the indigenous groups against SWAPO.....you know the kind of people who will a pregnant woman with a AK bayonet. When the police investigated and knocked them up well they fled to Angola and established basies. This turned it into an military affair. Not at one stage during the 20 year war were American oil installations attacked, the taxes from that oil made up the bulk of income of the Angolan government who used it to pay for the war against Unita and SA. The CIA in turn funded UNITA. Mugabe gave the Brits the middle vinger, murdered a few thousand Matabeles by sending in a notorious brigade with armour and machine guns when they started complaining. Today SA is very close to a total shit hole with threats of genocide against the whites, bankrupt die to corruption and having to import food.

Moreover, in September 1979 the South Africans took part in a joint operation against terrorists based in Mozambique and sadly, on 6 September, an SAAF puma was shot down. The three South African aircrew were killed, as were their passengers, 14 members of the Rhodesian Light Infantry. This incident is discussed in the book: 'The Search for Puma 164.
