To the Sanskrit purists who complain that her pronunciation is not "correct" Sanskrit, here's a little story for you: There was monk who chanted repeatedly on his journey. One day, he met a scholar who specialized in Sanskrit next to the lake. The scholar then point out there was a wrong pronunciation in the monk's chanting. The monk was surprised about that, and happily corrected his mistake. After showing his appreciation to the scholar, the monk then continued his journey by walking across the lake. The scholar was so shock by this view. He then thought "It's not me, but you, who has more understanding of the power of Sanskrit compared to us all".

For people who keep complaining that this is not real Sanskrit, bear in mind this is a Mahayana Buddhist mantra (specifically the "100-Syllable Vajrasattva Mantra") - Buddhists all over East Asia (China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Tibet) have been transliterating Sanskrit Buddhist mantras into sounds/syllables as closely approaching those of their own languages as possible for centuries. The recitation of the mantras in this way is believed to be efficacious regardless. Without Buddhists in these countries preserving the sacred Sanskrit writings/mantras/dharanis, they would have long gone extinct, as Buddhism itself declined and died out in India for various reasons (including the invasion of Moslems). [The Pali scriptures were preserved by the Sri Lankans, Burmese, Thai, Laotian and Cambodians.]

Devlin Tay but Buddhism is still practiced in India and our vedas and scriptures were mostly in sanskrit which is still taught here... So in conclusion it will not be wrong if you include India too...

Otaku hunter Buddhism was never a mainstream religion in India, keeping in mind the population. Secondly talking about sanskrit or hindi today's youth is only fascinated towards English all over the world. But we do have practitioners of sanskrit whose count remain small. It's not about optimism but stats, in order to see that one needs to visit different places, net doesn't provide that much authentic info...

to those who are confused about the language, this is sanskrit, she's singing exactly how a non hindi speaker would sing ,isnt that obvious. What i can decipher from the music is appreciation of the long lost traditions by us talented asians. I see preservation of the india's ancient language(sanskrit), the twist tunes of carnatic music/tibetan music/mongol, chinese pronunciation and a whole lot of creativity for the love of music, its a fusion tribute. here is the original, try to sing , even you wont perfect it combining the tunes and rhythm. Though the theme is more related to Chinese and it is also not purely Sanskrit.. But the theme is matching pretty much the Sankritic time period for me!! And the sound including sound of her voice is giving the same flavour what I always thought of that time period whenever I read anything about that period..
Many are confused. But this is definitely TIBETAN pronunciation of the "100 syllables mantra of Buddha Vajrasattva". I personally practiced this mantra. Reason its not Sanskrit but Tibetan is the pronunciation. Example, Sanskrit pronunciation is "vajra" (meaning thunderbolt), but Tibetan pronunciation of "vajra" is "benza" or sometimes "bajra" or "benjra" (depending on the location as different parts of Tibet has different pronunciation). Wishing you happiness! Om Mani Padme Hum

This is a kind of Sinified sanskrit. The sounds of Sanskrit have been approximated using Chinese words/characters and then sung. Its sounds strange and unintelligible, but this is the way things are done in Chinese. I once went to a Catholic church in Beijing and they do the same thing with Latin. Its completely unintelligible to anyone else, but is the closest you can get with the Chinese language.
