Felt the same about New York and American infrastructure in general during my time there. In 2015 during an election campaign Trump mentioned about how bad the American airports, railway stations and infrastructure are compared to the likes of China, Japan and parts of Europe. He was so right!

The USA is a vast country wherein most areas are occupied, expanding public transportation across the USA and maintaining them is a herculean task. On the other hand, China is the same as big as the USA, but a big portion of the land in China is unused, thus the used land is highly densely populated. Also, the population in China is 5 times bigger than the USA. Hence, public transportation must be implemented effectively in countries like India and China where the majority of the population rely on that. On the contrary, most people in the USA have their own vehicles except in major cities like New York, LA, and Chicago. In addition, cities like New York are multicultured, maybe the largest in the world, and managing such a large society and keeping the surroundings and public places clean and tidy is quite tough for the authority. They still welcome people from all across the world is remarkable even though they are well aware of the threats in the future. We must appreciate the hospitality of the USA and many European countries. Therefore, comparing the USA to the rest of the world in terms of infrastructure is not ideal.
