The brushes you use put scratches in my Honda black high gloss wheels. I had to go to micro fiber brushes.
@SparkleanAutos Жыл бұрын
That's a shame, they've never done that for me - but thoroughly pre-washing the wheels first definitely helps - it's not the brushes scratching the paint, it's the brushes dragging dirt across the surface causing damage. The EZ bristles are incredibly soft, if they've scratched the paint then I would question the quality of the clearcoat 👍🏼

WHAT!!! You don’t need a special wheel cleaner for black wheels, a pre wash, Coloured snowfoam, dedicated tyre cleaner and god knows what else you see on insta (sarcasm) /ZERO: Decon Shampoo at around 1:10 makes a perfect product that’s strong, sudsy, lubricated and great value for all those things as you’ve demonstrated so well here.

Hi Mark, crackerjack of a video mate, not that the others aren't, of course. OK, so the GT sale is on and, following your last video and our chat, I've grabbed some Decon and a few other products too, so I loom forward to trying decon in the many ways I've seen and nkt yet tried, such as a tyre cleaner. Also, I'm one of those barrel first people, just never thought enough about it, it having seen you and Heather clean the faces first, it makes perfect sense. My process will be tweaked. Thank you. All the best pal. 👍

Well just sharing my methods mate and if people pick up a thing or 2 that helps them then I'm delighted!! I pick up plenty from other people so it's nice to pass it on 😁 If you're disappointed with GT Decon you'll be the first person I've ever heard of who is 🤣🤣 👍🏼 enjoy mate

I won't lie Paul, it does make me a bit uncomfortable when I see people putting dirty brushes back into a bucket... I used to do it myself so can't judge but now I just think "you wouldn't do it with your paintwork so why do it with your wheels?!" That brush is fantastic for doing the arches 👌🏼👌🏼 Thanks for the continued support mate 😁👍🏼

This video was particularly relevant as I sit here waiting for the frost to thaw before I set out to clean the 22" rims on the i-Pace. I watched Heather@Autocare HQ go through her wheel process yesterday which is similar to yourself. I guess I have not really thought about my process but it is face first then barrels and my thought process was to leave the chemicals longer on the dirtiest part rather than pulling the barrel muck onto the face to be rubbed onto the bit that is on show. I think I am going back to the way I used to do my detailing in that I layer snow foam over citrus or use an alkaline snow first and then neutralise it with ph neutral snow afterwards then tackle the wheels then bodywork. I have yet to try the jacking up the wheels to expose the arch with the shocks fully extended and having the ability to spin the wheels exposing the bit of the barrel behind the caliper but next wash on the Civic it is a go. Genius method. It always amazes me that there is such an array of wheel cleaning chemicals and Iron fallout removers for wheels when GT Decon or Mitchell & King Strip does the job equally well and as you say can be diluted to suit the circumstances. I use strip in my sprayer, foamer and my wheel bucket. I look forward to the next installment.

There are so many methods John and each have their advantages & disadvantages - but there's definitely no 'correct way'! We just have to do what we can to minimise risk of damage and, just as important, make sure we find a method we enjoy!! The jacking up isn't always convenient but, bar installing a hydraulic scissor ramp in the driveway, I think it's the most efficient way of cleaning the wheels & arches thoroughly, maybe just not every week 🤣 And agree about the products - having the right products is so much more important than the quantity of products!! 👍🏼

I've had gloss black for the last 4 years now and started this routine early on. Prewash and the wheel face face is the very first thing so not to drag the shite off the arches, tyres or certainly not the barrels. Makes me cringe when I see youtubers dragging all the shite from the worst part of the wheels, the barrels then start srubbing away with detailing brushes and mitts with disgusting brown foam. Supposed to be setting examples but they're wrong. Another nicely done video Mark

That GT Decon shampoo is such a versatile product. I wanted to do a full decon of the whole car before getting some winter protection on (Fusso coat & GLACO ultra) so used decon as spray on pre wash, snow foam and contact wash. Wheels were done first with decon as a pre wash then with a foamer and really impressed with how it brought the dirt out of the tyres - much better than the GT wheel shampoo. My wheel method is front face first, barrels, rinse, then the back of the spokes with a wheel mitt and a final rinse. Brushes rinsed after each use like you do here too. Seen so many videos of them going straight back into the wheel bucket with all that dirt & brake dust on them. Beggars belief when they’re using the 2 bucket method for the car itself. Thanks for the video. 👍🏾

It does blow my mind sometimes Barry when I see that, use make-up brushes in the windscreen thinking it's being gentle (whatever they think that's going to do) then clean the 4th wheel with water that's blacker than the tyres themselves!! Sounds like a really good routine you have too, and have to agree, if I wasn't doing KZbin, I'd probably have 5 or 6 products for every job and this would be one of them!

Good video this and a lot to take from it. I do something similar myself. Once a month or so I will coat my wheels in fallout remover and then blanket them in a foam of Zero. I find this lifts the majority of contamination and the physical wash is really simple from that point.

Just about the most conscientious wheel wash I've ever watched. Well done for including the rear of the spokes. So many reviewers show a wheel wash but don't bother to clean the backs..Halfords glove mitt does that well.
@SparkleanAutos11 ай бұрын
Thank you Adrian ... It's hard to get a good MIT for the backs of the spokes - small enough to fit in gaps but large enough to hold enough product that its actually doing someone! - so I'll maybe look up this Halfords one 👍🏼

Another good video. I’ve got black alloys and always looking for ways to keep them shiny longer. My last wash I put Wowos Crystal Sealant on the alloys and it seems to be working. I’ve never had GT Decon but having seen this and your last video it’s on the must buy list. I’ve used BH Surfex HD on my wheels/alloys and GT wheel shampoo but now I’ve run out of HD so I’ll get decon this time around. Enjoying the videos and looking forward to the rest in the series

GT decon is a fantastic product that I'd recommend to anyone to try at least once... Gloss black wheels are a pain in the arse as most people don't look after them properly so when you clean them properly they are either scratched,dull etc. I tend to go for adbl tyre cleaner,bh auto wheels then add protection with adbl rimtector. The instagram detailer approach is complete overkill using something ridiculous like 6 brushes, 7 products, snow foam lance, 2 mitts and 2 buckets
@SparkleanAutos Жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more mate. Some of them just want to advertise as many products as they can in one clip 🤷🏻♂️ Then the same people try to move onto KZbin and wonder why they don't get the same level of interest!! - that's because people don't just flick through KZbin videos double-tapping and moving on!? You actually have to put some effort in 🤣👍🏼

Alloys? What does that mean? From where I went to school it meant several elements mixed together. You mean "Alus", as in Aluminium?
@SparkleanAutos Жыл бұрын
Well I'm not sure where you went to school but 'alloys' is a colloquial term, and it refers to alloy wheels... Called alloy wheels because they're a mixture of several metals, NOT pure aluminium - Something I learned working in an aluminium foundry for 5 years making alloy wheels & cylinder heads 👍🏼
