Is the Harbor Freight Baker scaffolding safe to work off of when double stacked? I show some accessories that do make it a lot safer to work at height.

EXCELLANT idea on the straps for side bracing. I wound up using the smaller super strut in a cross configuration on one side with the X bolted so it is rigid. Worked OK but it should be on both sides. However, I use it for storage when not in use. The metal bracing would prevent that to a large extent. Straps will be used next time. I also made some X bracing out of EMT for the ends. That helped a LOT.

Thanks for the updated scaffolding review - the original review is what first brought me to your channel and now I’m a subscriber. I’ve bought several sets of led ceiling lights from Amazon and have had a mix of good/bad units in each set. It seems like the build quality isn’t always the best. I did notice lots of failed solder joints on many of the failed ones, so I’d recommend checking soldering job on these lights before getting them set in ceiling.

Thanks for this Andrew - I have the exact setup at exactly the same height, probably because I have exactly the same comfort level! I'm painting the outside of my house, so the ground is not as straight at a floor obviously. Going to roll it into place tomorrow to see how stable it feels - thinking of drilling a hook into the house and roping it in if it doesn't feel good , , , but as you demo'd in the earlier video, it felt really stable using one scaffold and working second from the top rung , , , it does take a few minutes to get used to the slight wobble, but once that comfort level kicks in, I'm really comfy up there to the point that I don't actually 'feel' the height. thanks again for the strapping tip!
@DoctorMangler

I've been trying to find just the rails (for the platforms) to use as grab rails for low heights and stabilizers for a double stack. I love the strapping trick I can't wait to try that. I love my scaffolding, I do have the outriggers and rail topper and mine has paid for itself too. I was able to use it and charge it to a few jobs and it paid for itself after 3 uses or so. Much better than ladders for some. Great review and safety tips! One thing I like to do where possible is use holey iron to strap it to walls and that keeps it really stable, but that's not always possible.

Excellent video. Been thinking of getting the outriggers for my HF scaffold...not really using mine as scaffolding most of the time, I use it as shelving for implements for my tractor LOL...however, I plan on doing some finish work out in my shop, so a 2nd scaffold would be excellent to finish the ceiling. I think I'll pickup the outriggers and the safety railing. Its nice that it all breaks down so when not in use as a scaffold I can remove all the additional stuff. Plus utilize the 2nd scaffolding for more shelving. I palletize my implements, so a couple minutes with the pallet forks on the tractor to offload implements to use the scaffold isn't much of an inconvenience or not really inconvenient at all compared to having to find all the parts and pieces if it were disassembled HAHA!! Again, excellent video, and recommendations. They do make steel cross braces for the scaffolding, heck you could make your own, but I like your ratchet strap idea, a lot of people already have a few sets of those lying around, and 1 less thing to try and store somewhere and remember where you put later.

I'm afraid of heights too and it bothers me to overpay for what is otherwise a do-it-yourself job because of that. Still, I wish this product was a little more stable. I was wondering whether buying and extra pair of the platform supports for the very bottom would help stabilize it.

i have cleaned rain gutters for 30 years as a good portion of my business. I am comfortable with heights...but,...that does look a bit less stable then I would prefer at the top. Greta idea with the ratchet straps...but I think I would need to be on a more stable platform...like a square one. I think the extra money would be worth less risk...but great video lots of stuff to think about...learned a lot

The round tube Metaltech railing doesn’t seat firmly into the square receivers, it feels extremely rickety. I purchased some metal plumbing pipe and cut and drilled it to fit into the receivers and take up the slack. Enormous difference in stability.

Personally as a bigger guy that bought a similar set for working at 14’ walls for my barndo and with 2 sets and stabilizers and it was too shaky when trying to climb. I actually got the trap door deckings and the 39” kit and used that instead of full 2nd ladders the height I needed. Climbing up inside is much less frightening

After the house is done, one of your projects could be to build a large drone mount a lawn chair on top of it. That way you don’t have to worry where you are if you’re in the house you can just fly up and change your lightbulbs you can fly up to the roof or up to the top of a tree. Appreciate this and your related videos. Ascending to the high platform is a concern. Climbing over 1 cross member is fine, several cross members blocking your way is another matter. Swinging around the side looks like a scary stability issue. If you have a tall enough ladder to climb on, then I guess you would use the ladder, not scaffolding, for simple light bulb changes. Any insights for the wood deck? Concerned about damage/degradation over time. Would you use it as a template to cut out a replacement from thick plywood? Any ideas for a DIY base plate or something to capture wheeled foot and spread out load, to facilitate using the scaffolding on ground?
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
I don't recommend using on ground with double height unless you can tie it off to something. The plywood is thin, but has steel supports underneath, it's holding up well. Stick with it as it snaps into the frame and allows a lock to swing into place.

I think LED lights that are a whole assembly are less desirable than installing normal recessed lights with which one can retrofit with an LED bulb. This is because one can add the correct hue/temperature bulb one desires versus being stuck with a all in one system light. Not to mention one can change lightbulbs with handle long pole attachments.
