Often, modernisation comes at a cost of drifting from grassroot practices, and for the Amerindian community of Campbelltown, their cost is slowly becoming that of their unique Patamona Culture. But there is light at the end of the tunnel to ensure all is not lost. The News Room’s Akeem Greene journeyed to the Region Eight community to find out how they plan on safeguarding their proud heritage.

Wonderful Patamona village .Interesting to listen to our AMERINDIANS. I do agree that your language and cultures should be sustainable. The people in the Coastlands of Guyana do identify with their roots but the languages are also eliminating .The people used to learn their languages from their older generations but I realised also ,not many young people are talking their ansestral tongue . These languages are not taught nor maintreamed in public schools .So the children continue to learn the common Creole language and English Language. However, it is left for the individuals to impart traditional knowledge and practices in to their homes and communities.. I am always interested in diversity and culture and our own Amerindians are no exception.. Thank you News Room for this interesting footage of the Patomona tribes..

Miss Jillian, I got bad news for you. If you don’t hurry to preserve your language and culture, you gonna lose it. Your language is not dying out young lady. Your generation is killing it.

First step in Re-Capturing Culture is to Identify Yourself correctly. How did Patamona become AmerIndian (American Indian) when did Your Ancestry arrive from India? Indigenous is more fitting, GY Patamona Amazons better. Personally I prefer AbOriginal Patamona Amazons of Guyana as 'AbOriginal' leaves no doubt about where you Belong. Without Culture you are no better than a NO NAME product a.k.a. Generic - Imitation, easily replaced. I was Assimilated once & did not Belong anywhere until I recaptured my Culture. Is the Drumming Patamona? Sounds akin to N American Drumming. There is always 'something' Specific to You, which has Value at Home & Outside (Export): What exists, What grows - in Abundance; Animals or Plants? Explore Your CREATIVITY to Inspire INITIATIVE which Complements your God-Given Potential. The One GUARANTEE is that some Stranger will arrive and Discover the Niche You Overlooked, which will Earn them a Good Living. Keep THINKING About it?
