Safeguarding UNGA: A behind-the-scenes look at Secret Service and UN General Assembly

At the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) the U.S. Secret Service worked closely with its law enforcement partners at every level to safeguard hundreds of diplomatic delegations from around the world, providing the protection for which our agency is renowned. This includes coordinating security operations with partners charged with specific areas of management and response leading up to and throughout the event. During the past year, the U.S. Secret Service, along with its NSSE partners, worked tirelessly to anticipate and prepare for all possible contingencies to ensure a safe and secure event.

I always see the President landing in New York and then taking a motorcade to the UN. With so many world leaders going to the UN, how come the Secret Service does not build a helicopter landing pad at the UN? If it cannot be built on the property, why not within a block or two? Some people idolize athletes, actors, musicians, but i always thought the Secret Service was the coolest! Unfortunately i can't be an agent, those guys have to have the sharpest mental/physical conditions on par with seals at all times 24/7. That said i found a way i could be a driver in the "Convoys" They take civilians (This wasn't known until 60 minutes revealed it, and the Secret Service confirmed it has always been basic standard practice due to budgets) I called my local office but i think i pissed the agent off b/c he denied that they did do this...and i didn't mean to call him out but he barked back and im pretty sure they X'ed me off haha. Oh well, maybe ill find another door one day.

It's original mission when it was founded in 1865 was to tackle financial crime specifically counterfeiting of US currency. That time civil war was going on (or just ended), economy wasn't doing so good, so many made attempts to counterfeit bills to stay away from poverty. Eventually it was given the protective mission after President McKinley was assassinated. It's just a name buddy.
