Thank you for all the Questions and email messages on this new product. One of the insightful questions was "can it operate to turn the vehicle into a Mild Hybrid". The answer is Yes. Both the hybrid models are in fact "Automotive Mild Hybrid" products. The challenge for Safiery is to operate them with Scotty AI as if it is the vehicle ECU. Vehicle manufacturers don't reveal their ECU software. This is a technology game of replicating that functionality in Scotty Ai and reading the engine's CAN messages. We don't need to do this to extract power of course but we do when running as a Mild Hybrid. Why? In the Mild Hybrid mode, the maximum generation is done while braking or cruising - generally down hill. Then, when hill climbing or over-taking, the power flow reverses and the unit becomes a motor assisting the engine. This all has to happen in a split second. Fortunately Scotty AI operates in microseconds and can respond safely to sudden changes in demand. So imagine this unit switching from 10kW assisting the motor to 10kW power extraction from the motor in millionths of a second. Thats a 20kW delta. I call that tough shit. I believe we can do this, we just have to get it done. Once done, we will have a unique position globally with power extraction from a second "Synchronous Hybrid Alternator". This could in fact also be a single unit as the primary power source at 48V with Scotty AI feeding the 12V power to the starter battery and all the 12v devices in the back. We have done several of these for a Middle East customer. I’d love to have something like that on my 60hp tractor as a boost function. There are times when a bit more power in short duration would make all the difference. Any fuel savings would be a bonus

Well you may get it to happen but you need a reasonable size 48V battery and that may be a bigger problem to locate on a tractor.

Tbh. As cool as mild hybrid functionality is. Just the ability for it to start the engine, then provide 48V power to the vehicle is already very interesting. I can't tell from the footage exactly which unit this is, but I've already followed a few blog posts from folk reverse engineering these types of motors for their own purposes from brands like Continental as used in many VAG vehicles and while it's not a project I have time, space or funds for, I did like the idea of taking a pure mechanical diesel motor like an OM606 and slapping one of these on it with a view to having a vehicle that solely had a 48V electrical system and no 12V battery at all. Similar vein, just slapping one of these on a single cylinder stationary diesel for non mobile off grid scenarios is pretty interesting. Alas I have more time for thinking about crackpot schemes than performing crackpot schemes.

In the mild hybrid boost motor mode, is it transmitting the extra power through the serpentine belt or some dedicated system? Also, could it fully replace the starter motor?

Yes to Serpentine but no, starter still needed in our case. but the BSG's these are off dont have a separate starter

Amps are low, and charge the battery, the volts, are where the power output is. But, it's an alternator, so, power output proportionally increases current generation, to a point... it would deplete the battery eventually.

Yes you would. But we have a battery protect function that would stop the mild hybrid at a preset voltage point. This will give some breathing space to recharge and not operate as mild hybrid. the parameters would be set on the App.

Serpentine, so you'll normally see on vehicles with these types of motor from factory that they have quite a tight belt wrap on them, and sometimes an extra rib or 2. These are only used in _mild_ hybrids. You don't ever drive under electric power alone with such a unit, though it does have enough torque to start the engine while in a driven gear and still adds a tiny lil bit of grunt to get it rolling, but generally you are relying on the ICE power plant to do a lot of the work.

Adding this to a 1.1L (like my 86 hp Chevy Spark) would take it to 99 hp. That'd be good for getting on the freeway.
