Steve your channel is phenomenal but IMO anytime Joe Schmidt appears it somehow kicks into an even higher gear - that man has a terrifyingly awesome Kesa Gatame!

Thanks for your kind words. Joe is a longtime friend and a great coach. I'm glad you like the videos he appears in.

I LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE--it's a great way to follow through when an opponent tries to block your Koshi guruma. This is perfect since Koshi-guruma is a main weapon in my students' arsenal. Thank you!

Thanks for your comment Jun. I agree. This is simple, direct and works at any level of competition.

this is a great variation of a standard Koshi guruma, if you're not able to throw him, you can just do this sagging variation.

Awesome technique with a little persuasion.

Good comment Richard, "with a little persuasion." I love it.

This throw has a similar hand position as koshi guruma, but it's more like an otoshi throw or a makikomi with a new hand position. Or as mentioned, a kubi nage is a better name.

If you are the smaller of the two players, this throw will work for you against a larger opponent.

good execution of the technique .. efficient and not heavily reliant on the gi

Thank you for your comment. You are right-this is effective in a gi or no gi situation.

that is more like a Kubi-Nage. Not allowed in IJF-Judo, I think
@welcomematstevescott5 жыл бұрын
I agree and we pointed this out in the video, but a common name is the "Sag Koshi Guruma" so I went with that as the title. Not surprised this is not permitted in IJF rules.

@@welcomematstevescott Yes. Thanks. Actually I wrote the comment before I fully watched it to the end (always a big mistake ;-) )

@@welcomematstevescott If I may, I feel compelled to make a bit of a correction. This technique IS permissible under current IJF rules. Hopefully, it remains that way.
