When I started running I was eating meat. The more I ran, the more I found that meat wouldn't make me feel "light", so I didn't have meat the day before my runs. I got to the point that I was vegetarian in a few months because I just felt better. At that point, I found Rich Roll and his his book Finding Ultra, which was a huge help to know there are people pushing the limits on a plant based diet. I didn't know Sage and Sandi where on a plant based diet until recently! Thanks for inspiration guys. I've been plant based vegan for over six months and couldn't be happier. Feel better, compassion to animals, and helps the planet. PS. Plant based food just tastes better.

NEW VEGANS: Make sure you center your meals around healthy starches like rice, beans, potatoes, lentils, legumes, pasta, oatmeal, barley. Then of course, add in all the fruit and vegetables that you want. It’s not just salads and kale. Most new vegans struggle with feeling hungry because we have been programmed to think that carbs are the boogieman. Read “The Starch Solution” by Dr. John McDougall (lots of recipes in there) or watch some of his lectures here on KZbin.

Vegan runner, selected fot UTMB 2018. You doubt when you start running, then you stick to it, end your first marathon, got hooked, and realize how logic, easy and necessary running is. Same with veganism.

And Sandi, thank you so much for sharing your story, it was so touching and loving animals was what finally made me see that I couldn’t just be vegetarian anymore… had to go all the way. I was hiding my head in a hole like an ostrich from the information that was available. Great video, thanks again!✨💕

Something to remember regarding the honesty of the conversations surrounding the organic food craze is that, in the US alone, organic food is a $45B / year industry. There are entrenched players on both sides with deep pockets and strong motivations to push their agendas and narratives.

Congrats on the Canaberry launch, sir! Looks like a solid ingredient list. Will pick up a pack to try out once my existing Stingers are gone. On another note, I've been taking a short break from running to give my joints a rest and do some intensive strength training over the last several weeks, and your regular videos are a big part of what's keeping me focused on getting back out there ASAP. My protein supplements for smoothies, etc., is 100% plant based. The plant protein has all the amino acids and it tastes great! And Coach Sandi is right - as usual - plant proteins seem to be lower calorie so you get that huge added benefit, plus the fiber!

This is super helpful in so many ways! I'd love to hear your take on vegan protein powders. My guess is you don't see them as necessary because whole foods provide enough protein. Ive heard that whenever you isolate a protein you create a small amount of MSG and have thought its maybe best to avoid them.

I have been a vegan now for 2 years. Definitely never been healthier or happier. And on top of this, I have broken all my running records at the age of 34! I became vegan for ethical reasons, and never did I expect that I would become so much stronger and faster. The hardest thing about being vegan is dealing with all the people who choose to live in comfortable denial as Sandy said.

Harry Smyth he's pretty lean and probably has decent hormone levels, I never had any veins until I got on testosterone replacement therapy as my levels were very low and now I have veins like him just months later, a lot to do with circulatory health
@harrysmyth4540
@harrysmyth4540 6 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. Thank you! I have a pretty low BF percentage, 6-8%, and don't have veins like this (at least in my arms). What's testosterone replacement therapy?
@liftingstuff3139
@liftingstuff3139 6 жыл бұрын
Harry Smyth I get testosterone injected from a doctor every week to bring my levels from the bottom of the reference range to the top of the range, the range is about 280 to 980 and mine was 300 at 23 years old which indicated an issue, now it's about 1000, I'm not as lean as you yet I have the forearm veins all day, maybe your levels are average and you don't have very vascular genetics (thin skin helps)
@liftingstuff3139
@liftingstuff3139 6 жыл бұрын
I also gained about 14lbs and got leaner over the course of 6 months after starting, so hormones are very important for the body and it's functions

All excellent as usual. I agree with all your observations 100% - but worth mentioning that Hoka shoes 'might not' be 100% vegan and air travel (speaking ecologically) is pretty much avoidable if one is committed enough. Also it's a complicated picture. I live in a remote corner of NW Scotland. I grow as much veg, as possible as there are no 'good' shops here, though we do get pulses, rice etc delivered. We have a ridiculous amount of deer here - largely due to human mismanagement. There is no harm in eating them occasionally - with positive environmental effects (the grazing issue is huge here) and no (if only eaten from time to time) human health issues...then one is just left with a moral issue of course.... I understand that I am making just minor points however.

What about micro lesions forming on different areas of the heart valves from running at paces that are not naturally symbiotic in velocity which calcify and eventually cause heart attacks? Anyone wanna chime in on this or keep on inserting blind adherence to this reality? Thanks

How did your team mates have low ferritin levels eating all that meat? I tested my ferritin a few months ago and it was 304, and that's with eating 100% plant based for over a year, no red meat in 4 years, and without drinking alcohol. Iron deficiency is extremely rare. Iron overload is very common. At least 1 in 3 people have too much iron. Ferritin levels should never be over 100. Below 50 is even safer. Anyone with a ferritin level over 100 should definitely donate blood if they're eligible and continue to donate every 2-3 months until it's at least below 100, even better below 50.

And when we are done with it they gona die out because there will be no demand for their meat... Too much vegetarians... Sorry pigies. You survived and adapted and even after that this is the end for you... we dont want your meat anymore....
