In the south we have a lot of unvented propane heaters. I have noticed over the years that the moisture the propane emits eventually is absorbed into the tile causing the tiles to fail due to the added weight especially during harsh winters due to more heat usage. A lot of people put thin wide strips on the seams and screw them in.

I have some saging tiles, I think from the blown in insulation on top of them. What a mess if I had to replace some.

I think adding a wide washer with screw will help and you can cover up the washer with paint.

That is what my brpther did and it worked awesome. The other side of my ceiling has fallen down because I couldn't get to the hardware store to get screws and washers, so I am going to put them back up with the screws and washers and then put some sort of treatment ovee it. I actually found a corrugated cardbpard celing video that ended up beautiful. I don't know what I will do, yet, but I will have to cover it with something.

I have a tile ceiling that needs to be painted, but alot of the tiles are sagging or needs replaceing. I found that if you use a fender washer and a dry wall screww these two really hold up the tile. If you are not going to paint it, paint the washers as close to the ceiling color as you can.
@PittsburghPat3 жыл бұрын
That is a great tip. Using a washer spreads the load. Thank you for your insightful comment.

Is there an ideal spot to add a hook with these tiles? I have these in my home and all the other ceiling tiles I’ve encountered, you can lift them up and reposition them. I’m lost with these tiles.
@PittsburghPat5 жыл бұрын
Not really. If you're hanging something light like a party streamer then anywhere would work. I wouldn't hang a plant or a light fixture. However, usually there is a wooden framework above the tiles. If you can locate one of those with a stud finder or by probing, that would be a better location which could handle more weight.

Hate these tiles also! So thin and are breaking apart where I need to staple them will not hold. Armstrong ceiling tiles. Possible defective or say rotted from being stored on the shelf at the store? Redid my whole kitchen ceiling 3/4 of them came down within about 9 months. Any other suggestions not using these tiles that would attach to small beams across the ceiling? I paid a contractor to do this unfortunately he passed away and I do not want to pay out much again. An old home and will only be there for another 2-3 not looking for perfection.
@donaldkasper834611 ай бұрын
Maybe back the ceiling tiles with thin veneer wood, glue with silicone. Then you are screwing up through the veneer. 1/8 in sheets of veneer at Home Depot, etc.

Why would you not staple/screw on the flat edge that will be hidden instead of doing it right thru the face? I mean it kind of looks like a hack job and more work involved to paint and hide the screw when you could just do it right the first time
@PittsburghPat3 жыл бұрын
Excellent suggestion! I believe in this instance the stud was where I place the screw, and I wished to have a solid anchor for the tile. But certainly, your idea is great if the circumstances line up correctly.
That could work, but might be messy if you ever had to replace one.

These tile are a pain in the Ass ! IMHO ! IMPORTANT TIP ! : DO NOT WAIT TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM ! This is not one of those, " I'll get to it later " ! Don't ask how I know ! 🥴 My biggest problem is not having strips to attach all of the tile to ! As they are were supported by wedging the edges together, which had metal hooks of sorts, holding the eddges ! I think I'm going to install additional wooden strips to attach the unsupported tile, and call it a day ! Like I said, "A pain in the Ass"! ☝️🤨
