If one had to rethread the shaft to be able to scew in the tool to drive the pulley, what size would it be ?
@Shanes_Shed9 ай бұрын
I believe my one is an 10mm thread, but it wouldn't surprise me if some early ones had an imperial thread rather than metric

Mate, mine just started a solid drip from the front seal, and I was stressed there for a while. So glad I came across this video, I really didn't want to buy a reman pump, and I didn't know how to re seal mine.

Great stuff. I just replaced this thing on my daughter's car and the rebuild was bad, so going to re-rebuild the rebuild myself.
@Shanes_Shed5 ай бұрын
Yeah I've had my fair share of redoing previous work before myself too.
@quinlanz925 ай бұрын
Gotta be careful, sometimes the rebuild fails because the housing was scored along a sealed surface, and no amount of replacing seals and impellers will fix it

thanks for your video. It helped me well. There are 4 holes on the front side, 3 are used for the bracket. Can you tell what the 4th is meant for? (it's been a while since I took it off the car and I don't remember. I also don't see any indication on the parts book or the workshop manual...

These pumps where used nearly everywhere back in the day so it wouldn't surprise me if they are all for brackets - kind of like a universal fitment but different manufacturers used whatever bolt holes suited them

Do you know if a 2005 GMC Yukon power steering pump is rebuildable? It is not leaking, it simply stopped working good at low RPMs (below 800rpms, like at stop lights. It works fine while driving at rpms above idle/800rpm. Thanks!

At what point did you realise you put it on the wrong way? Hopefully not once it was back in the car and you where trying to put the belt back on.

I think you should have changed the bushing as it should not be that tight for the shaft to go into it, mine was nice and loose with the new one. Ah you probably already now this as this video was about a year ago.

Still running with the same pump as I rebuilt it in the video.

Not bad overall but my neighbor just bent his pulley thinking he was to remove the pump before pulley. Now he's in for a $100 CAD replacement part and 3 day wait. Sorry to say, but you miss important details for the beginner. Like you often need to remove the pulley BEFORE removing the pump from the bracket. And you skip taking a few pieces off/on. The devil is in the details, there are more concise build vids out there.
@Shanes_Shed3 ай бұрын
these units where used everywhere at the time - there would be numerous mounting methods so I've covered the application that I have - which the pulley can be removed after removal from the vehicle. Surely it doesn't take a genius to figure out if you need to remove the pulley before or after.

If you flipped the CAM cover over (upside down) ...pump works CCW instead of CW.... Most pumps come rebuilt for CW rotation, except GM L99 and LT1s,,, Pump won't pump when rotated in the opposite direction...
