Do you have to re-route the pcv system off the other valve cover too and plug the manifold?
@zackginabarford4888

After watching this video and others, I opted to route both valve cover vents (actually added a second $2 PCV inline on the valve cover with no PCV) into a brass T fitting then routed them to the Catch Can Inlet. Catch Can Outlet routed to the original PVC fitting on the Plenum. The interesting thing I found was the catch can was catching fuel, it oil. The catch can install helped me diagnose a stuck open fuel injector… replaced all injectors and while the Plenum was off I removed the original vacuum hoses with new silicone hoses and re-routed them away from the engine. The amount of vacuum the truck is now pulling is crazy!

I was getting ready to install my catch can and thought I would look online and luckily I found this vid. I was wondering about just going off the PCV line until i saw this. It makes real good sense since I spent many hours cleaning the throttle body and the intake plenum. There was so much gunk in those two parts it only makes sense to put it as you showed. I also will make a T and add in the PCV line to it as well just to help keep things cleaner. Thanks for the help

Good stuff! My 95 isnt mass air flow, so that whole pcv system is a tad different. It's just one long awkward plastic pipe that goes from the oil inlet on the valve cover to a filter in the bottom of the air box. So if I wanted to do this, I'd have to plan my next moves wisely. I have, however, heard of a few forums revolved around relocating the pcv system. I've considered getting a 96 air box and tube and putting it on. The double tubes aggravate me, if I'm honest.

Not really. The pcv stays doesn't appear to messed with, with this upgrade. I have a 5.8 94 Bronco, non maf(for now). I have the same setup you do. Just take the hose from the airbox to the catch can, then an additional hose to the nipple that is on the valve cover where the old ose from the air box went.... I think that made sense? If I am incorrect, my apologies.

I could be wrong but doesn't the air come in through the air cleaner, through the black air intake tube and then into the throttle body. And from the side of the air intake tube there is a rubber hose that connects to the spout just under the oil cap on the valve cover to let fresh clean air into engine block. And on the other valve cover is a PCV valve that connects to the intake manifold and the air gets sucked through the engine, through the PCV and into the intake manifold to get burned up in the combustion cylinders. And when that air goes through PCV and into the intake manifold, it leaves an oily mess in your intake manifold and the back side of your throttle body? Wouldn't you want to put a oil catch can inline between PCV and the intake manifold?
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 3 ай бұрын
You are absolutely correct. Most oil catch cans are installed on the line from the PCV. I may do a second can in the future but the CCV was the culprit depositing oil on the throttle plates in the TB.
@rocknrocko4659
@rocknrocko4659 3 ай бұрын
@@TheMinuteMasters Yes, although I like to call the CCV the PCV valve, but if they are clogged, the airflow through the engine crankcase can flow backwards and into the intake manifold and leave oil deposits on the front side of the throttle plate rather the the backside. Once CCV/PCV valve is replaced, the air should now flow directly into the intake manifold (not through the TB), leaving a oily deposit inside the intake manifold as well as the backside of the throttle plate. I'll be putting an oil catch can on my 5.8l Bronco now as it looked real easy watching you install yours. I enjoy watching your video's, helps me figure out how to perform my repairs... without breaking anything :)Thank you

Can I put a t in the hoses so both the pcv that goes into the plenum and the other that goes into the throttle body will both go into the oil catch can and another t on the other side so the clean air goes back into those spots?
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 11 ай бұрын
So I’ve thought about this, I think you can have the CCV and the PCV because both originate from the valve cover (crankcase). However, the PCV routes into the plenum after the throttle body and the CCV before the throttle body. Not sure if that would cause an imbalance. But you can give it a shot a see what happens.

you put it in the wrong hose! that hose is supply for air into the crankcase and then the pcv pulls it through and out the opposite corner so if your puking oil out there (where theres almost no vacuum) either your pcv valve is bad or youve got a pile of blowby and im sure your sucking a lot of oil through the pcv so you should put one there too because that oil getting burned is hard on everything

I was told the same thing years ago when I install my first catch can. I thought about doing a three port catch can this time around to incorporate the PCV hose but I decided not too. @@TheMinuteMasters a second one would be good if nothing else try it with that old one you have to see how much oil you get but don't run it through the same one the hose in your intake tube is clean air into the crankcase while the other is full manifold vaccum the whole time and the pcv valve regulates the flow
@joelr877

@@TheMinuteMasters He is correct about the wrong hose. The tube was meant to provide MAF metered air to the engine/crankcase and the pcv hose draws that air and any blow by back into the intake. I think you could put a crank case breather filter on the tube coming off the side of the oil filler cap. I don’t know if that will cause any issues but I know they did it on older model engines. Not only that but any oil that gets put into your intake manifold and gets sucked into your engines cylinders. If it's a lot of oil and doesn't get completely burned off, it turns into carbon deposits and can bond to your valves or pistons. Enough of that carbon and it may raise your compression ratio and make your engine run leaner which obviously is no bueno.

You should redo this video and hook up your catch can to the pcv hose instead of the intake hose. I'm certainly interested in this mod because I burn a lot of oil whenever I do extended freeway driving. I have a 351 w/ 300k miles on the original rings, so I certainly have some blow by hehe.

So I add this catch can to the CCV side because I was getting oil in my intake. Ever since I replaced that PCV valve I haven’t had any oil. I may have to switch the setup to the PCV side now. Damn! That’s some mileage! My truck had only 239k on the original rings.
@mark98070

@@TheMinuteMasters I wouldn't switch it to the pcv side. You installed it correctly. The port in the oil filler is where it belongs. How much oil is being collected instead of craping-up your intake?

I have 306,000 on my 351. I installed it in from the PVC side to the plenum. I was getting a crap ton of blowby in #8 (Where originally dumped behind the plenum. After one month, I drained about 1/3 volume of oil from the can. The rig definitely runs smoother and is getting better mileage, not burning all that oil and plugs saying clean. I should have done this years ago.

Good question. Since installing it this spring, I’ve “cleaned” it out once. Yesterday actually. It was probably a 1/16th deep amount. This catch can is bigger than my previous one. So I don’t have to empty it as often.

Their idea was for any excess oil (blow -by) to be routed to the intake and be burned up. Problem is, over time this fouls everything including engine cylinders. Fouled # 8 and #2 on the 5.8L are the primary cause for premature engine failure. Ford has been aware of this for many a year, and had service updates for it back in the 90's. These engines are bullet proof and if properly maintained, should last a lifetime. I've got 30 years and 305k on mine. Original owner.
