Hey tom I have definitely been religiously paying attention to your videos an I went from 140s down to 90s so it's coming along well except off the tee or from the tee box it's like I just lose all ability then my second shot works for me then my putting I need to shape up but I feel like my 7 thru 3 iron I'm having difficulty with but my 8 an 9 an wedges I hit clean HELPP

That is *fantastic,* Allen!! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your dramatic ball striking improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom Saguto, PGA PS: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. The value in terms of what you get for the low price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you would like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that is delivering the referenced results. As you are now coming to understand, one does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I sincerely appreciate the referrals and support!! The keys to playing a shot when the ball is below your feet are in: 1) adjusting your setup to properly orient yourself to the ball (since it will be closer to you, your upper body will be angled more towards the ground than on a standard shot), 2) balancing yourself as you may need to feel your weight more towards the heels of your feet depending on the severity of the slope, 3) taking an extra club or two than you normally would from the given distance, and 4) aligning yourself with the expectation that the ball will fade. Once you are oriented, balanced, and properly aligned, you are ready to execute the swing as taught. Bump your hips forward an inch as you typically would so your weight favors the front side 55-60%, and when you take it back make sure that your weight stays forward and your shoulders do not flatten out as they turn, as they will have a tendency to do so due to their preset steeper orientation. In fact, a good thought for this shot is to keep the chest pointing down as you turn, since mishits from this type of lie are oftentimes a result of the golfer coming out of his or her tilt in the backswing. Conversely, a ball above your feet will necessitate having your upper body oriented for a less steep shoulder turn that allows the club to work more around the body, weight perhaps favoring the balls of the feet depending on slope severity, and allowing for a drawing ball flight. You'll likely need to choke down on the club a bit, and for this reason plus the curvature you may also want to club up for this shot, bearing in mind that the ball may tend to roll out more upon landing due to the draw spin. Once again, after making these adjustments you'll want to execute the swing motions as taught - weight forward, tilt/turn/extend, hands in, keeping your swing center intact. The short answer with regard to uphill and downhill lies is to 1) Match your shoulders to the angle of the slope, 2) Widen your stance a bit for stability, 3) Understand that an uphill slope is going to add loft whereas a downhill slope will reduce loft and produce more runout, so adjust your club selection accordingly, 4) Make a practice swing next to the ball to determine your swing's low point on that particular slope, and then address the ball so that the low point is just ahead of it, and 5) Do your best to keep your center intact as you swing since any swaying will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results. Tom

To me this is the best way to swing the club. I use to shift my weight back onto my trail leg alot and I could never get to my front side efficiently. Now I have much more hip rotation and shoulder turn with less effort and I stay mire stacked on my front side. It feels more effortless and powerful. I life the feeling at the top of my backswing to feel like I am then falling down hill keeping my back to the target for a split second

I'm very glad to learn of your improvement!! Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs - which is quite normal early in the swing change process as a golfer gets used to applying the weight-forward concept to the fairway woods and driver - it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Richard! In our setup for this swing system both feet are flared out approximately 20 degrees, and the knees similarly angled outward. Hi Ron, I'm glad you are enjoying my content and I appreciate your support in sharing with others!! If I had a true fix for the putting yips I'd be a billionaire.... 😎 Seriously, if you do a search you'll come across so many different thoughts on the topic. The problem is that each individual's version of the yips is unique to themselves because they are typically the result of a psychological trigger and not a mechanical issue. I would first suggest checking your alignment, because if the brain senses something is amiss then it can make a last-second correction that may feel like a yip twitch. A session with a putter fitting specialist can really help in this regard. Beyond that, I suggest experimenting with different grips - both the actual grip that you have on your putter as there are so many different options available now, as well as the way you hold it. I hope that helps! Tom PS: If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? Thanks - I'm glad you are enjoying my content!! No matter which club you are swinging, in the backswing the lead knee always works straight down in the direction established at address - which should be flared slightly outward towards the target. This keeps the weight forward and the swing center intact. Any inward movement of the lead knee will shift the center and low point backwards. This can lead to inconsistency and may also cause some discomfort to the knee. The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball..... 😎 Thanks - I'm glad to know that my instruction and teaching style are resonating well with you!! Can't wait to try this! This goes perfectly along with what I've been being taught and working on anyway! BUT, how's this setup and swing work with the driver and or fairway woods? I'm guessing hitting a wood is easier and similar, but what about driver? Does JUST ball position take care of things, or do I have to add more upper body tilt to hit up on the driver? And wouldn't that tilt take away from the K shape?

Thanks. The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. Can you have some transfer of pressure into the trail side in the takeaway? Yes - as mentioned in this video, and as long as you keep your center intact and don't shift off the ball. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered motion that harnesses the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum", where physics and geometry collide. 💪💪 TS

Tom, I have been practicing with your "weight forward K " swing for a week or two with irons and 3 woods.(I never practice with a Driver).yesterday I played in a foursome with two dudes we got paired with .Warmed up normally with 8 IRON and 3 wood, went to first tee with 2 thoughts "head centered and weight forward" and bombed my tee 50 yds in front of the rest of my group. By the time we got to the 9th hole ,which I hit driver and pitching wedge for birdie, I was tired of hearing "beautiful drive ". We go to # 10 and it's now a threesome . I asked where is Bill ? Really good video. My question is about ball position. For mid irons and shorter do you play the ball at about the middle of your stance. I'm not sure if it is camera angle, but it looks to me like it is pretty much in the middle. Does it vary according to the club? I have always had problems with fairway woods, but I started watching your videos and started putting the weight forward and now I am killing it. Thanks for making this info available.
@SagutoGolf

I'm very glad to learn of your improvement, Greg - nice job!! Yes - we first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. Keep up the great work!! What is lost on most is that your left leg posts up and back creates incredible speed for your entire body and to the club head. It’s straight up physics. The center pulling away from a swinging object creates MORE speed, not less.

When i started golfing i always hit the ball fat. I would always feel my body falling back to my left side. So one day i decided to keep all my weight forward and what do you know......... no more fat shots. To me it feels like im leaning way too forward but when i watch video i look normal. Another thing i found too is dont try push your back swing further than your body really wants to go. This just causes problems. My swing feels like i take a half swing but yardages with my clubs hasnt changed much in 20 years. A little shorter but im also in my 50s and not my 30s anymore 😂
@SagutoGolf

Nice job figuring out that weight-forward component on your own!! And yes indeed, one of the keys is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist). This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur: 1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift 2) the wrists will break down 3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side 4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball 5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight. 6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact 7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". By the way, should you ever wish to take your learning and your game to the next level, please consider enrolling in my online school. Hi Aaron, It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. If contact is good and your path is properly approaching the zone from the inside, then I would begin with tweaking ball position, as this is something you can experiment with that does not involve diving into any swing interventions. This is always the preferred way to begin when trying to correct a ball flight issue. By the way, if you've not already joined have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? Hi Ryan, One of the basic setup features for this swing system has the shoulders, hips, and knees in a stacked relationship. Head position relative to the ball will then based purely on where the ball is positioned in our stance. In this regard, while this system affords some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). Tom; did you go to what looks like an "oversize" grip, in order to iron out the "over-draw" that you spoke about in a previous video?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Steve - I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023 - including in this video. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. While the latter wasn't necessarily my primary reason, it was a definite added benefit. Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. Well done!! I am very glad to know that the "K" helped your ball striking!! Yes - This swing key also applies to the driver. The stock finish for this swing system does have a somewhat abbreviated look to it because it is simply the result of a very connected, powerful, and body-friendly motion. Have a look at Tommy Fleetwood's finish, for example - he is one of the best ball strikers out there. And there are plenty of others on Tour whose follow-throughs are similar. There's no need for the shaft to whack you in the back, and for many in the amateur ranks that type of loose finish is an indicator of a loss of critical structure somewhere in the swing motion. TS

@SagutoGolf

Hi Steve, In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. Here's a link to my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” in case you’re interested in learning some key aspects of this system in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ Tom

Does this weight shift apply equally to drives as it does with irons? Or do we want to keep our weight more neutral when we drive?

Hi Matthew, In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Tom, can't tell, are you slightly releasing( straightening) the trail leg a little?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, In this swing system the lead knee flexes as the trail knee straightens during the backswing, both in their outwardly flared orientation that we preset at address. The flexing/straightening occurs gradually and in response to the increasing forward weight load and the centered tilting, turning, and extending components of the motion. They are not contrived actions unto themselves. We're simply allowing them to be reactive, thereby freeing up the hips and shoulders to execute an unrestricted, centered turn. Please have a look at this recent video for more detail on the topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp_Vc5pmh8SXask Tom

Hi Gary, It's difficult to diagnose without actually seeing your swing, but based on your description it sounds like your downswing is on a steep, out-to-in path and needs to be shallowed. Here's a lesson that might help you with this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2a7ipqBpNWHmJY Beyond that, may find some helpful content in this playlist of my downswing-related episodes: kzbin.info/aero/PLV62KxT7Mp7Jxi814RQddJx3wkHqxqhioyou Really though, It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing. Thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Tom

So I have been working on this for the last month. Last week I was really striking the ball well. Today all I could do is top the ball. Every club , even the driver. I set the K on every swing so I’m not sure what is causing the topping action on the ball. Any ideas?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Жыл бұрын
Consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. By the way, there are entire sections of my online school dedicated to diagnosing and resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
