I took up golf late in life...now age 70...started playing senior tournaments at age 50 and won a fair number of them....secret for me was the short game...no one hits green all the time, and the remarks from a good many of my competitors was your short game is amazing! My practice time was limited and probably 75% was spent on pitching and chipping. In my opinion, everything you guys said is absolutely spot on. For chipping, my thought was to play it off the back foot depending on the lie...if the lie was poor and on more bare type ground or in a hole, play it further back off the ankle...comes out low and allow for the roll. Going forward for short pitches, my thought was to have the hands lead and then extend the club face as if you could set a glass on it out front...biggest thing I watched others do was decelerate on the way and chunk it or get the hands back and skull it.......Also, the closer to the green, the less loft....ie, chipping with a 7 iron instead of a sand wedge

So nice to see Capos from the Genovese and Columbo "families" collaborating, having a "sit down", in a "respectful" manner about chipping. No turf wars going on here - just calm. As Paulie said in Goodfellas "We need calm". Seriously, very helpful vid. Chipping yips can be the bane of one's golf game. I know. As even Eric stated, he had suffered the blues from bad chipping until he turned his life around and got straight ha ha !. And Tommy "You're a funny guy" and the best, most charismatic, teacher here on YT. I'm thinkin' 'bout starting out as a soldier and then progressing to becoming a "Made Man" in the Saguto Golf family. What's the link to do so ?

The best chipping lesson of a multitude that I've seen. Something that works great for me as an engine of the pivot, is imagining the lead side pec moving through 2 points, on a swing plane arc, in front of the body. A few practice swings will give a feel, for the shape and required amplitude, of the swing for a specific shot.

I appreciate the kind words! The dreaded "S's" can be the result of a variety of actions: 1) You may be too steep on the downswing and thereby exposing the hosel to the ball; 2) Conversely, your downswing path may be too in to out; 3) You may be rolling the face open during the backswing; 4) The wrists may not be hinging properly (they should only hinge up and down, not side-to-side); 5) You are setting up with the ball positioned at the heel of the club; 6) More... I could keep going, but I just wanted to highlight the fact that I can't really diagnose the issue or present a fix without really knowing what is happening to cause your brand of hosel rockets! If you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system and achieving consistently crispy, compressed, ball striking bliss, please consider the SagutoGolf online school. I'm glad you enjoyed our collaboration, Paul! I assume your question refers to the chipping method Eric is teaching here. It's a very connected motion, similar to what I teach for the full swing. If you go to the 6:40 mark or so in the video you'll see the down the line view of Eric's backswing motion for the chip. A good drill for practicing this would be to stick a tee under each armpit and keep them in place as you execute the chip shot. This will help ensure that you do not disconnect by taking the club straight back. Cheers! Tom

Love your Videos. Wondering, you live in South Carolina, I have been there Golfing. I want my Shots to be "Calabash"! Crispy like a SC Hush Puppy! Calabash style! 😁

Calabash style is extra deep-fried crispiness indeed, Jeffrey!! Not many folks are quite ready for that level, but it is defintitely something to aspire to...😎

Ken Ventury used the analogy back in the 1960 s golf digest of having your arms in a cast it keeps the club at the same angle and distance from your body giving you consistant strike. Now just keeping your left arm an wrist is found to be better.

Tom & Eric (the head forward on backswing) another good feel is weight transferred to front foot as head moves slightly forward even on backswing and it looks like Eric does go onto front foot as head moves forward

Eric is setting up favoring his lead side 60/40, Tim, and he's never leaving it throughout the motion. As I say in one of my full swing lessons, "forward, forward, forward"! TS

Hi Tom. Great video with Eric. Does this technique work from say 30 to 40 yards out? Can it be used from green side rough?
