The Sahara is the biggest desert on earth ... it takes its name from the Arab word for "emptiness". In the dead heart of that emptiness there's a place called the Tenere. The Tenere takes its name from the Tuareg word for "nothing". A nothing the size of France in the middle of an emptiness the size of the United States. It's no wonder the locals call this place "The Land Of Fear”. David Adams retraces the trade routes of the people who call this stove-hot corner of the planet home.
From the ancient civilizations of years past to the dawn of the Space Race, every week we'll be bringing you award-winning documentaries featuring some of the world's best historians. Subscribe so you don't miss out.

Truly amazing and incredibly beautiful. Thank you so much for taking me on this adventure of crossing the Saharan desert in the country of Niger. I loved watching you sand ski down the high mound and across the sand. Wow! Ancient customs and kind people taking you into their country and showing you the way and you bring this this adventure into our lives as a gift. You are so kind and respectful. Their world is so remote from the genocide of the Palestinians. I hope they find out what the Israelis are doing and pray it ends now and Israel exists no longer because they have been forced to leave and return to Europe.
