Not sure why but I really enjoy watching your show. I think a combination of dogged determination toward completion, a thoroughness of detail, a joy in your labor, a smile on your face and your hope of things to come. It’s obvious your not making a show to peddle rather building a life. My I wish you a happy Easter today, or as I call it, Christ’s Resurrection Day which is my hope for the future. All the best to you and your soon to be wife. DENNIS

What else can you do in times of corona self-isolation than to watch ALL SailLife videos once again in chronological order? At the moment I am at watching you repairing the cabin top. What a trip through DIY wonderland! Apart from the fact that you are now doing things off camera from which you would have produced three-part episodes in the past - what an impressive learning curve even a genius like you can go through! Also the working speed you have reached is continuous turbo mode. Chapeau.

I used the same insulation as you have done, thinking that the self adhesive would be better than the gluing with contact glue, which the professionals always do and they told me would be the best option. Turned out they where correct, as long as something outside of the insulation keeps it in place the self adhesive will let go after a while and start sag with condensation forming between the laminate and the insulation, further adding to the adhesion letting go. Perfect on horizontal surfaces but not undersides. My experience go back to 2007 with this particular brand. Hope you get it all sorted. Love your vids, looking forward to everyone of them.

Hi mate Been awake all night so continued watching many of your videos!!!! I really truly enjoy them and your calm relaxed ways. Re your Rode mic which I spoke about earlier, if the mic is not hard wired and the lead is ok, it is otherwise highly likely to simply be dry aolder joints on the pcb mounted microphone socket. I'm learning that you are not only a master of some trades, and a talented jack of many other trades. Many thanks for your videos buddy!!!! By the way, to get good and equal round corners, draw around something you can find of the right or close radius placed up to the corner. Eg, for the pole mounting plate, smallish washers or a pen lid would be good. For large corners,a lid off a jam jar or- the inside or outide of a role of gaffer tape may help.

You could also mount a stainless bracket support for the outer edge of the nav station table to the pole as it would probably be less of an obstruction for entry to and exit from the bench than anything made of wood.

If you wet out glass on a table for a vertical location, just roll it up or fold it in one direction only, and place it in a plastic paint roller pan, them move it to location. No drips. And them unfurl it with gloved hands. It will not slid down. I’ve done overhead surfaces the same way. When in place, I use a plastic putty knife like used for car body work to get the bubbles out as well as excess resin. For me it’s always faster to wet out glass on a table since it wets out much faster, and no wasted brushes. I just pour the resin out and swish it around with the plastic putty tool. No ribbed roller either needed.

Great video and more entertainment value during the lockdown. Mounting the generator on a bench is going to make a lot more noise and vibration then mounting it on the floor using the hull and water underneath to dampen it ... just a thought! I can't remember if you considered having one big generator where the engine is and using an electric motor to drive the boat. Stay safe Mads and do you have an update on how things are going with Eva in the US?

18:28 For American English, the bit of pipe that goes down from the sink is the tailpiece, and the part you see at the top is just called a flange. So "vanity sink tailpiece flange" if you want to give context in one compound name. Tailpiece goes into "trap" (the U-shaped bit) which may have "cleanout" (draining plug) at the bottom, into "trap elbow" (if separate, usually is) and then the fixed horizontal pipe that takes greywater away is the "stub-out".

I can tell you are really enjoying this part of the retrofit! surely looks a lot more fun then fixing all those under floor stringers. When you work with the stainless, I think it needs to be passivated after welding to minimize rust. Believe it consist of a wash is dilute Nitric acid that removes any iron from the surface of the metal caused by the weld heating. It's the chrome oxide layer on the surface that prevents the rust, any iron on the surface will rust.

Keep thinking through those cockpit portlights. There's probably a reason you don't frequently see windows in those positions. It may partially have to do with interfering with leg space in an already cramped area. Possibly interfering with privacy for someone in the cabin below...or water splashing in the cockpit.. I don't know. I just don't feel like I've seen it frequently done.
@BishwaOakes4 жыл бұрын
Steve, my 2000 model Scanyacht 391 has 4 in the same positions. Two either side, and two very small ones on the forward side of the cockpit. Never had any issues with them, but you do have to remember to close them before getting underway if it’s rough of course.

That was the fastest 20mins of the last month. The mess of parts at the bottom of the sink is referred to as a “drain assembly”. The flange sits inside the sink and threads into the drain tube below the sink. The tail piece is the fist section of pipe that threads into the drain tube. Although I kind of prefer sink hole thingy. Love what you’re doing.

Matt, I see you using the 406 Collodial silica. I have had some experience with epoxy. When I need strength, I use flox. It is chopped cotton and when mixed with epoxy in a thick paste, it is so hard and strong it is even hard to file. Great for areas where you need strength. If you need a light weight filler you can use microballons ( very small ballons of glass) which files and sands more like styrofoam (not beadboard commonly called styrene ).

Jökul!! Woo! Am I spelling that right? So Mads if that countertop doesn't work out you can simply epoxy it. I honestly would just do that first before ever installing it and if it is too shiny just buff it until it has a matte finish. I like wood and sometimes everything looks too plasticky on boats so I dig it but feel like it might be a terrible surface for a bath vanity. You can clear epoxy then scuff or even if Ava doesn't like it you can epoxy it to look just like marble. Oh and seeing as how you are learning to weld, why not weld up a new stainless exhaust for the iddy-biddy Perkins so that no one ever has to even smell the shame of painted exhaust!? 😉
