Go on Mads do the carpet yourself. We will be all behind you giving encouragement and pearls of wisdom. Also look about for a Super Takumar 1.4 50mm and then a cheap attachment for the Sony. You will not regret it mate. Keep the videos coming.

ploneuk Thank you :) I'll be fitting the carpet next weekend ;) I would love to check out that lens :) Do you know of any wider angle prime lenses (looking for large aperture)? I would love to get as much of the boat in the background as possible. At 18 mm the kit lens seems fine (of course there is the 1,5 crop factor).
@ploneuk9 жыл бұрын
***** If you buy the adapter to allow you to attach the SLR lens to the NEX you broaden your choices considerably. You can even buy a adapter that allows you to attach M42 screw mounted lens directly onto the Sony! I suggest you buy a quality wide angle prime from Ebay or a second hand shop etc. Then buy a adapter that would suit you best. Only downside (if it is one) is that it will be completely manual. But, if you hunt around you should be able to buy yourself a fantastic prime for a fraction of the price of a "G" or Zeiss lens. (if will probably be even better)...BTW there is even a app to do the math for you for a 50mm! USA is also a good place to pick up a quality second hand prime btw.

Just a thought for you.....Our 30' sailboat has cork on the sole. I have been surprised how warm the floor feels. An advantage of cork vs. carpet is cleaning it. Love ALL your videos by the way. My partner and I will be spending 6mo aboard our boat in Anacortes Washington this year and I would like to do a vblog also.

For the GoPro you can go to settings and pick 24 fps then turn protune to cam raw. Makes low light shooting look way better when you edit. Plus in GoPro studio (free) you can even adjust exposure contrast saturation and white balance to make it look great. Good luck buddy. Great videos and nice new camera! Come to Florida and Il take you out on our boat.

Too funny Mads, love the out takes. While I have not yet bought a GoPro, I am thinking of getting a higher quality camera, so I look forward to seeing how your new camera works out and how you like it. If by chance when you head over to the U.S. You decide to visit Florida your welcome to come see my project.

Maverick Sailing Thank you very much :) Checked out your videos :) Seems you have your work cut out for you! Very interesting project :) Looking forward to following along :) The GoPro is great for a lot of stuff the only downside, I can think of, is low light performance. The very wide angel helps a lot in small spaces (such as a boat). I don't think I'll make it all the way to Florida this time but if I do I would love to check out your boat :)
@MaverickSailing9 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mads, I currently use a knock-off camera similar to the GoPro, made by Sharper Image, it doesn't seem to be as good as the GoPro's, but I figured for $70 dollars I could learn to do some videos, then spend the big money on a GoPro. While you might not make it to Florida I just had to offer anyway. Maverick is going to be quite the project for me, today I got her all power washed on the outside and that made a huge difference. I'll have a another video coming soon with the struggle getting her moved to where I live. Fair winds and following seas. Adam

Nice camera - at least you know have a down below 'studio camera' and a weatherproof 'up top' camera. 😀 You can get kitchen or bathroom quality carpet that it is designed for 'damp' conditions. You will do a better job than the bought in service - it will just take you much longer.

Hey Mads! wow, that "is" great news & I'm excited for you! ..your time in the southern states should to be a grand adventure.. If you ever make it to the Pacific Northwest, hit me up.. (I work in Alaska 4 months of the year, May through August as a 65' salmon tender captain, but sail the spring and late summer/fall when I return. It would be fun to host you aboard w/ brews!) Both camera's work great..congrats on the new one, & nice choreography between the two BTW :-) Oh yeah, Ps.. didn't know you were 6'2".. looks like we both have the same headroom issues to deal with.. (bigger boat? dang-it.. now you have me thinking too, haha!) Would a different charlie-noble help with your backdrafts? keep us posted :-)

MrLightning1200 Thank you! :) I'm so excited! I'm usually in the US once a year. Still every time I'm super excited to go back. I'm already busy planning a road trip from Austin to New Orleans. Sure I could cover a greater distance but I like taking my time :) I would love to visit Alaska some day. Seems incredibly beautiful but the so many places in North America are :) Haha, sorry! Friends don't let friends start to think about bigger boats ;) It's the root of all evil ;)If I move aboard on a permanent basis, I'll see if I can tweak my setup to combat backdraft. The guys at Refleks didn't think there was anything I could do. No harm in trying though! :)

Very good and funny video, especially with outtakes. :-) I am sure the quote for that carpet will be just too expensive if there are so many people involved. In the end, do you want to wait till the spring for them to fit the carpet ? ;-) And yes, I do think the camera video footage is better. Try playing with the white balance on that Sony and apply color corrections when stitching footage from both sources. Then you would produce a video with consistent visuals. Well done and good luck with the carpet!

Be prepared for hot in Texas! We lovingly refer to Austin as the Peoples Republic of Austin as the city is quite different from the rest of Texas. There are some lakes with fair size boats on them nearby. The coast is several hours away by car. If you haven't been here before don't forget that the state is several hundred miles wide and tall. My Austrian friends were amazed at the size. "We can drive across Europe in the time it takes to get across Texas!"

Another great video, Mads. I took my first sailing lesson at Lake Travis in Austin. I'm just down the road in San Antonio. I don't have a boat, but would love to treat you to steaks while you're in Texas... if you're interested and have time. I know you mentioned the microphone in a previous video, but I was curious what it's connected to. Looks like you use the phone for your GoPro remote, so do you have a separate voice recorder for the mic?
@SailLife9 жыл бұрын
Christopher Smith Thank you so much, Christopher :) If it turns out I have the time I would love to come visit you in San Antonio :) I use the Røde smart lav+ and the iPhone app from Røde. Perhaps something like the Zoom H1 :)

I remember one time, long ago with my dad when he so pissed off at the quality of the workers when it came to layout that we spent a whole day tracing 1:1 the plan of the whole partition, room and bathrooms on a whole floor, all the way down to the thickness of the plaster walls and the metal framing, including the stationary objects in each location. I think i've had better outcomes with scrapped knees from falling off bikes rather than after that day. That was my first experience with hands on architecture and the reason why, today, if someone even remotely dares to not waggle about without doing the job right i'll curse up a storm and rant furiously. Proper craftsmen today are just so rare to find, i'm lucky for having met a team of guys with which i work and can relate, but i hear all the time about stories like yours where there's a long chain of mistakes (really) and poor results. "We have to fit this window front, so we will send guy x to eyeball it, then send guy y to roughly measure it for monetary, then guy t will show up to measure the holes, guy g will bring the patterns..." ugh.

Life is like Sailing is a KZbin channel whose owner just put in carpet. I recommend it. You are Danish? Chimneys should be no stranger to you :) Bernoulli should work if the pipe is high enough to be in the wind and the tube hot enough to "lighten" the gas inside. I suspect the exhaust is probably too much low profile to be efficient. Good luck!

MrTeneric I've seen the video :) Alfy did an excellent job. Yes, I'm from Denmark :) I think I'll leave the chimney as it is. It has only been an issue during the two storms we've had this year. I can certainly live with that :)

Take a hard look at the Freedom 44. Proven circumnavigator, easier singlehand, cat ketch rig unstayed mast of carbon fiber If you want to tack you turn the wheel. adjust your main sheet if required. Modern underbody, winner overall x 1 Bermuda singlehand 1-2 race. Two times first in class( boat Frog Kiss). Don't let the unstayed mast turn you off do a little research
@SailLife9 жыл бұрын
***** Sounds very interesting! Not at all like the boats I've been looking at (heavy displacement, full keel boats). I will research it for sure :) Thanks!
@yonny19549 жыл бұрын
I believe the former Frog Kiss is currently on the market in Washington State listed at $88k USD(Yacht World). There are several accounts of it's Bermuda race experience by it's former owner including a lightning strike requiring main mast replacement These boats are balsa cored so a very thorough survey is critical. Repairs are very possible but expensive but should be easily deductible from purchase price. BTW Freedom made a smaller aft cockpit 40 and a center cockpit 40 and there is a center cockpit 40 now listed in Maryland. Very different underbody, traditional full keel some with and some without centerboard (pretty sure). The aft cockpit is basically a smaller version of the 44. Criticisms of the center cockpit question offshore safety based on the huge size of it's cockpit, but they to have lots of offshore experience. The one in Maryland has the wishbone rig (not a fan) but easily converted. Only 21 of the 44's were built so they don't come on the market that often especially in good shape or no bastardized
