Nothing like taking a hacksaw to a brand new air conditioning unit before you even put it in - but - Its A Boat! Only a true boater would see the hilarity in that. Great Job!

Seriously guys, you're my go to sailing vloggers to get an accurate description of what its like to liveaboard with small child.....i'm waiting till mine is seven to go. .....t minus one year to go. Keep the vids coming. Fair winds to you.

Thanks so much! And congrats! I think age 7 will be a great age to do this. We've met several sailing families now with kids around that age and they really seem to embrace it. Rivers will be almost 4 when we leave here to go to the Bahamas and beyond and I think he's definitely gonna "get it" much more by then.

When dealing with high voltage AC current, you should not use the terms 'positive' and 'negative'. Those terms are for DC current. AC wiring terminology is black for 'line' or 'hot', white for neutral, and green for 'safety' ground. When dealing with 240VAC equipment L1 and L2 are both hot. One is black and the other red. Usually. Great video. Hopefully you had a nice cool summer!
@SailAwayVlog5 жыл бұрын
Thank you...that's very helpful. I've mostly only done DC stuff so those concepts are dug in pretty deep. And yeah, we have stayed pretty cool! It's been REALLY hot here! Thanks for watching!

You might have to Balance the flow of air between the longest point away and the Closest points to the unit ,in other words partly close off the two shortest hoses so you get more air to the Forward Berth. Your the Hvac Man Now , Ps: Great job as well :) looking forward to the next Job :)
@SailAwayVlog5 жыл бұрын
I thought that might be the case too, but thankfully it did even out pretty soon. And thank you! Despite the hacksaw step and a couple slightly short hoses, it was a pretty straightforward swap. Thanks for watching!

Nice job on the ac. We just finished our too (a little more complicated than yours was). That seemed like a long time to be on those dinghy’s and drinking all that liquid and no one had to jump in and go pee 😂🤣

Thanks! Yeah, it was refreshingly straightforward for a boat job. Lol. And that's a good point! I guess our bodies were in self-preservation mode. I can't speak for everyone else though...might've been some adult diapers in play. ;-)

Damn! I wish my A/C install was that easy! Of course i didn't have one to start with, so I needed ducts, wiring and water pump installed. Don't even ask about drilling the hole for the discharge! But hey, it works great now! Haul out scheduled for Sept 4th. Sure you don't want to come up to VA and help? I'll supply the alcohol...Still shooting for departure on 15 Oct.
@SailAwayVlog5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you definitely had the hard kind of install! Glad it's working well! I'd love to come help, but I'm pretty sure I've got a, um, thing on the 4th.... ;-) . We'll be hauling out for our bottom job right about when you shove off. Hope to see you down here!
@blackdogsailing125 жыл бұрын
@@SailAwayVlog Funny how all of my friends "got a, um, thing on the 4th"! That's ok, I never figured on other bodies around much. There's only a couple of things I will need help with, those can wait for some unsuspecting friend or son to stop by!

I think this may be the only in depth marine AC swap out that I have ever seen on any sailing channel. You made it look easy Eric!!! How many BTUs was the thing? My guess is it has to be 16,000 to 23000 BTUs for a 46 foot boat.
@SailAwayVlog5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, relatively speaking, it really wasn't bad. Only real issue was the diverter for the ducts and that wasn't too tough...probably could've bought a part to fit, but...LOL. It's 16,000 and we have another 12,000 aft.
@pateallan77645 жыл бұрын
Boy, that ticks me off $600 is highway robbery. Plus it didnt even get fixed. These boat mechanics think they have us by the short hairs. Good install on the new. I have my condensate line running ri my shower box. I always wondered why the ducats are never insulated. Mine sweats inside the lockers. I'm sure the new one is much quieter and colder. At a marina AC is a must in the South.
@SailAwayVlog5 жыл бұрын
Man, you're so right....oh well. Big part of why you have do as much yourself as possible with a boat. Funny thing with our ducts is that the aft ones are the insulated kind...not sure what dictates which is used.

It's been a brutal summer here in Atlanta. Nothing above normal, but the combination of heat and humidity, ouch! Hope you ran the AC before you took the hacksaw to it?
@SailAwayVlog5 жыл бұрын

Now that you've had your AC unit installed for the last two years, what are your over all thoughts on the unit itself? Has it lived up to your expectations? I may need to replace mine in my 2003 Hunter this spring and I currently have the same unit you removed. If this one has held up I may consider it for my boat. Also, can you provide the model you put in? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks and my wife and I enjoy the channel. :)

Hi, I am a fairly new viewer to the boating video blogs on youtube, of course, I'm envious of the locations you visit, but you seem to be spending lots of time replacing parts in some of the most awkward places I have seen, but don't appear to shout or get cross
