Brings back memories- we sailed our boat, Theta Volantis, from Guernsey to La Caruna, then to Baiona, and on to Lagos, Portugal and eventually to Gibraltar and on to Mallorca. Great videos- thanks

Wow! That is a great boat! It attracts a lot of attention! There is a lot of arguing about that keelless hull and the centerboard! And also the comparisons whith the Boreal yachts that are also aliminium centerboards. Could you please do some information from times to times on waves, wind speed and the boat speed and behaviour?

Great video's, binge watched all 43 episodes. I would like to see a detailed walk through, including technical and engine rooms. Cold storage solutions. Hows your power consumption vs available power. Magnificent yacht, I can only dream.Fair winds.

OK. We'll do some cold storage this next episode.. and engine later.

@ 16:50 'The boat requires about 10 kn of wind before it will start to sail'. Dawn, Peter. Did you have either of your new bowsprit mounted foresails for this trip? Gennaker or Code Zero? A Parasailor could be a good option. Not cheap but, I understand. Also, re your Dek-King side decking - have you noticed it getting warm underfoot much? It seems to be holding up to the sun well. Not fading too quickly.

HI, Yes when sailing down the Portuguese coast we found we needed at least 10knots when 150degrees AWA downwind... having said that there was a good amount of following current, which drops our AWS. ie. 10knots of TWS means 8knots of AWS before the sails even start to contribute negatively to the AWS. We have a gennaker waiting for us at GY. It isn't ready when we left as we were putting a big Sailing Chloe cat graphic on the sail. So now, it's ready and we're hoping to get it shipped to us at some point in the future. We'll not risk it bing delivered to Tangier as it might get 'captured by customs'. We have installed all the light wind rigging ready for it already: halyards, forward tack line etc. We looked into parasailor - but it's not ideal to have so much 'spaghetti' on deck with only two people. And I'm not sure if the big hoop/ring would fit in the sail locker? Once delivered, we'll use the gennaker on a top down furler ... and see how it helps.. and then explore if we need an A-sym later, but again; we don't really want to use a sock when the wind pops up suddenly with only two people. Code-0 would also be on a 'nice to have' list but the sail locker is only so big.. and we have a higher priority right now, trying to find e-scooters- Also destined for the sail locker. Chloe does seem to reach pretty well in

Love Garcia sailing yachts! Love Chloe! Love following your travels! Friendly tips for your videos: Have a look at the Beastgrip iPhone rig + lens and especially the Rode Deadcat GP video mic for use in windy conditions. Breastgrip.com Never zoom while filming video. Don’t pan right to left (pan once in a scene)

Just one quick question and I won't bug you guys again. After reading your blog about managing your electrical use, generation and storage it seems as though the autopilot is a big electrical draw. Did you consider installing a mechanical wind vane? Could it be done on your boat if you wanted to do it? If not, is the dingy storage on the davits the limiting factor? I'm very curious about this. Thank you.
@sailingchloe23305 жыл бұрын
Hi William, You're right. the AP is a big draw when compared to the rest. We looked into mech wind vane and ran the numbers - but we think now that modern PV's + Large LiPO's have made mechanical AP's a bit redundant... looking at the numbers, a well made autopilot and a back up was what we concluded is best these days... .

Hi William, Wow. I apologize that must have been painful.. sorry, we're not good at making videos. We'll nearly done making the next one. We'll get it out before we leave Tangier with our shiney new reset Schengen visa's .. then we'll head into the Med.
@williamdykes27505 жыл бұрын
Not painful at all. To the contrary it was thoroughly enjoyable. I can only imagine how much fun you two are experiencing while learning all of the ins and outs of your new boat and its capabilities.

Just don't respond to the Cape Finnisterre lighthouse on channel 16 and order them to alter course by 15°N like the USS Abraham Lincoln did a while back😂😂😂😂😂 I've heard the Bay of Biscay can get quite rowdy, how did you find the sailing and shipping traffic? Clearly you two are sailors sailors if you know what I mean, the fact that the boat of choice is a Garcia Exploration 45' is testament to that. I'd be looking to round the Horn and do the North West passage if I had a boat like that.

Sailing was great when leaving the uk and past Brest.... but a couple of hundred NM's later, wind died before we arrived in A Corona. Shipping traffic was easy to miss. They all ran along fairly clearly defined paths. So we just stayed 5 miles away from these paths.. and the big ones all stick out like sore thumbs on AIS or Radar. The main concern, as usual, was fishing pots. Spotting them with radar is a skill!

Geez. wonder how you feel about $100 million yacht owners. This boat is about as modest a world cruiser as you can buy with all of the safety features built in.
