When I did the mandatory practical part of the coastal skipper license the radar exercises were in the kornati : we have to draw figure 8s around the islands only use the radar picture and shouting instructions to the skipper from the bottom of the ship. We spent a whole day in the Kornati to practice the usage of radar, how the different coasts reflects the signal.

Very interesting Gilbert, thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like a great place to practice such skills.

Enjoy your videos so much! Thanks for posting, being a Croat and a passionate sailor it is great to see how appreciative (and skillful :-) ) you are in navigating sometimes challenging Adriatics environment... Re stone crosses you saw at the island of Kornat.... They were actually memorial crosses built to commemorate 2007 tragedy when 12 young firefighters lost their lives trying to put out a wildfire... You saw how the landscape looks, and imagine firefighters being 'helicoptered' on site and losing their lives over barren land and a couple of sheep... Nobody still fully understands how / why the tragedy happened and young lives lost... But back to 'positives', thanks again for great videos, seems you've had great time in Cro! cheers

Wow thanks planck000 for the kind words and for the explanation of the crosses. A sad story indeed, but a reminder to all of us to better appreciate those who risk their lives for the safety of others. Best regards.

10:38 These crosses are a reminder of the Kornati tragedy and were built for the fallen firefighters. They came from the Sibenik area by helicopter. Most were extremely young. They were allegedly set on fire by a fire that was rapidly spreading from the sea to the top of the hill. Another story is that the helicopter that delivered them to the island had problems with fuel leaks and poured them. Young lives lost for nothing.

Great video. Would love to know what time of the year this was? We are thinking of visiting mid April (sailing a catamaran), but unsure what the weather will be like.

Hi there. Glad to hear you liked the video. It was in mid-July, so I can't say exactly how it would be in April, but less crowded for sure, and possibly quite nice based on our experience in early Spring elsewhere in the Med. Good luck!

We REALLY like it. We did something a little risky with buying the boat without having sailed on it. We had sailed for many, many years before buying her so we knew many things we wanted in a boat. Some of the new design features are just terrific. We love the double doors into our front berth - it allows plentiful air-flow and for me (Karen) that is important because I have significant allergies and fresh air is very important to me. We can not say enough about the 'walk around' deck design. The amount of safety and ease of movement this adds is terrific and as we are hitting the top half of our 50's, we are looking at features that will allow us to enjoy as many years of sailing as we can! We have been thrilled with how she sails ... which is a big relief given our somewhat spontaneous purchase. The hard chine in the hull design allows her to get on a heal and then set there with very good stability and the double rudders mean when she is healing the down-wind rudder is nice and deep in the water. We also love the very open and comfortable cockpit.
