I know I am way down the list of comments, but again you go right to my heart. Damn...St Micheals? Before Miss Molly it was a charter trip with my brother (now passed from cancer), his wife, and my ex-wife. What an experience we had. Left St. M on a pea soup foggy morning to cross the bay to our Sat night docking. this was before AIS, before nice Nav screens. I had to navigate dead reckoning and man, when you hear that fog horn blast from a ship you cannot see as you cross the channel...it was not a relaxing crossing. Side note, my brother Jonathan and I bought a 28 ft gentleman's Skipjack, wooden, with the idea we would fix her up and sail her to parts unknown. Reality and life changed those plans, but I fell in love with Skipjacks and had a hell of a respect for Oysterman of Chesapeake Bay. Watching this I want to go back in time and ... and savor that time with my brother even more. Thanks again..your journey has helped me relive mine.

I lived along the South River many years ago on a farm called, oddly enough, South River Farm. I think the county bought the property, razed the farmhouse, and turned it into a park of some sort (called South River Farm(s) Park 😎). It's just to the southeast of Edgewater, and the property included Mayo Point. I had a small sailboat at the time and enjoyed many hours on the water. I agree with you - these are very special places. Maybe we were neighbors!

@@billvs6505 Hi neighbor! There are a few parks on the Mayo peninsula. South River Farms Park is the one accessible from inside the Loch Haven neighborhood, and I'm guessing the place where the farmhouse was is now where they have a county building where they store a bunch of equipment. The entrance makes you wonder if you're even in the right place, but you walk down a long path and you eventually end up on a rise looking back to the community marina, or if you press on there's a tiny beach with a huge view of the river and Turkey Point. Maybe that's Mayo Point? The path there wraps around a small inlet that you can get a kayak into if the tide is high enough (or if you don't mind getting your ankles wet). It's a nice peaceful escape from the large waves and wake you often get on the river proper.

@@CT112380 Yes - that's the spot! Lived there for a couple or 3 years in the late 70s early 80s til I moved to Colorado. I do miss that area and the Chesapeake Bay. I'd love to walk the land again. There were actually 3 houses on the property at one point, and coming home up the long driveway after work was like going on vacation. Thanks for the reply - hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

We went on a tour of HMS Victory in Portsmouth Navel Dockyards UK. During the tour we went through the upper gallery of the hold and noted the tonnes of gravel used as ballast in the bottom of the ship, below the cargoes and stores consignments down there. We were told that working in the hold was one of the most dangerous jobs, especially when at sea. For example in rough weather or when the captain ordered a change of course and ballast, cargo and stores had to be repositioned. Heavy, dangerous work in semi darkness, low light conditions. For me it was the most interesting part of what was in every department an excellent tour.

Watched your latest video before this one but from that video I realized how comfortable you have both become and are now quite seasoned and experienced on the water. Submarines, Battleships, Jet Fighters, Tug Boats and of course the dreaded Crab & Lobster pots all over the place. But they seem not to phase you at all! I would be freaking out to say the least. Great episode. But sometimes, as an audience, we forget to say the positives. So here goes: This episode made my simple little Samsung TU7000 55 inch look better than usual. In other words, the lighting on this episode was perfect. The contrast and clarity. No overblown highlights and the blacks were simply magical. St. Michaels is the quite essential baymans town. The marina where my dad has his boat back in the 1980's had a bugeye. Seeing that boat under sail was quite astonishing. Here it is today, Desiree and Jordan can sail their boat. That bugeye literally needed a 5-8 person crew! If you ever get the chance, Crisfield, Cambridge and Kent Narrows (among others) are neat places to see on the bay as well! Safe journeys Atticus!

The eastern coast is certainly stunning as your excellent drone footages shows. I do pause them and take a good look around, awesome! The diversity of the Canadian and U.S. east coast is uniquely stunning and diverse. From the massive icebergs off Newfoundland & Labrador down south to the stifling tropical heat of Florida to the southern most tip of Texas. I dare say we have the most unique combined coastlines in the world. Then there is the very different but second to none west coast of our great countries that would take another lifetime or more to explore. You both make it look easy, I know it's not. Thank you for all your very hard work by bringing to our attention the beauty, the diverse culture(s) of the eastern coastline, it's majesty and of a proud history of the East Coasters of the U.S.A. Glad to see you are exploring Chesapeake Bay. It is a wonderful cruising ground, and if you don't go aground in the Bay you're not really exploring it. I lived aboard an Alden schooner for 15 years and sailed the Bay every year. I miss it! Thank you for sharing your life with us.

Awesome episode. The ship building is very cool. Years ago a friend in our glass factory asked me ( I was a Machinist Moldmaker ) if I could make him a pully out of wood and bend some metal to make it look like one off a ship. His wife wanted to suspend a plant from it. It turned out really good. We felt we could make anything back in the day! Well all bragging aside, nice work you two. Always fun. Great HD video images from the hand held and drone camera. Good story telling with a New England theme, a, beginning middle and and end. . That 3rd order undamaged "Made in France" Fresnel lens is priceless. What was not said was that its beams were engineered in such a way as to provided a skipper with a distance measurement from shore. During the switch over to remote control lights the Coast Guard used to just dump these very expensive hand made lights (some 8-ft tall) with precision brass gears rotation mechanism into the ocean before people found to and started the lighthouse conservation society. His five Atticus 2.

So much history in the Washington DC area! I know you guys love history. Hopefully you can make it to Alexandria, VA - it's on the western bank of the Potomac River. It's very charming and and one of my very favorite towns in the US. SO much history there. The town started as a European settlement in 1695. George Washington also lived there. You can visit his home, Mount Vernon and walk around historic Old Town. There's a (free) trolley that will take you up and down King Street. King Street also has a boat dock at the eastern end at the Potomac. There are a least a dozen docks along the river in Alexandria. Enjoy your stay!
