Wow what an awesome video thank you so much for showing us Columbia what a beautiful place. Just imagine when you were standing up in that fort with the cannons you were standing where they actually were shooting to protect their selves that is so cool. Look like a very beautiful town full of nightlife not too crazy but just enough to put you in the mood. I would hate being in a thunderstorm in the water Yes that would scare me have to death I would be praying up a storm. I know when I had my boot and volunteered with the Coast guard auxiliary we were out on the river and a storm came up and all the boats on the river started heading to the dock I told the others on board with me we got to head in to base. The older gentleman said no you're going to stay out here on the water during this thunderstorm that is the time when people need you and when they break down. So he made me stay out there to get over my fear but it sure was scary. Thank you again for taking the time and sharing your life with us a beautiful life at that Glad to see that you two are back together again and we know Coco will be joining you shortly. As always keep smiling stay safe and God bless

Congratulations on 20,000! I’ve been watching since the beginning and I’m glad to see you both smiling still. Yikes…scary lightning storm!⚡️Respectfully, please be careful of not passing false information. Placing electronic devices inside a microwave or wrapping them in aluminum foil would offer little to no protection in the event of a direct lightning strike. It is not designed to withstand the extreme power of a lightning strike. Additionally, microwaves are optimized to block microwave frequencies, not the broad spectrum of a lightning strike. The best strategy is to ensure the boat has proper lightning protection via a lightning rod or grounding system, not the protection of individual items. Keeping electronic devices off and disconnected from power sources (including engines) can reduce the risk of damage. A good lightning protection system captures the energy at the highest point (via the lightning rod), conducts it safely down the boat (via the down conductor), and dissipates it into the water (via the grounding plate), all while minimizing the risk to the boat’s electrical systems and occupants. Additionally, bonding of metal components is important. All large metal objects on the boat, such as railings, stanchions, engines, fuel tanks, and electronics housings, should be bonded (connected) to the lightning protection system using conductive cables. This ensures that if any of these objects are hit or come in contact with electrical surges, the current can flow safely to the grounding plate. Without bonding, metal parts may act as isolated conductors, leading to dangerous arcing or damage if they are directly or indirectly hit by lightning. Hopefully, you won’t run into more lightning storms…especially when sweet Coco is on board. 💙
@sailing.supernovaАй бұрын
Thanks for the great advice! We do not have any good lightning protection system on board, but we will look at bonding everything together. With any luck we can avoid big storms like that till we get a better system figured out. We have 3 more rocky passages to go then we get Coco back and it should be smooth sailing from there :-)

@@sailing.supernova Dear Ivette and Darcy. How can "me and Ivette" be correct??? Maybe it's different in some parts of the world? In Germany is an old saying respectively a phrase existing: Nur der Esel nennt sich selbst zuerst (= only the donkey names himself first). Don't know if the translation is correct but it means, that only donkeys introduce themselves first (with their typical loud "Iiaah"). Since early childhood I was told that it is rude to introduce myself first. Even more if there are females present. Not that it counts in the middle of a dangerous thunderstorm but I will nevertheless stick to this "gentlemanly" behaviour. Out of my life long experience it additionally kinda separates the not polite from the polite/well brought up/well educated humans. But, as I said, this might be different in other countries respectively cultures. Best regards, luck, wisdom and health in particular.

Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning! It is essential for your boat to be properly grounded with the correct equipment, starting with the tip of the mast and ending with a substantial grounding plate attached to bottom of the keel or rudder. I suspect that you got caught up in a tropical wave, a weather phenomenon that occurs in the hurricane season.
@sailing.supernovaАй бұрын
Thanks for the info, we have been learning a lot about Tstorms on this trip, We are not grounded to a keel or rudder so that's something we will have to look into. A tropical wave sounds we more fun that it is in person haha

Dear Sailing Supernova couple. 👍👌👏 I absolutely loved to see that you even had fun in the concrete jungle of the city (I know that you you prefer forest green jungle environments). The old fort/fortress was a great place to be. 2) Unfortunately scolding seems neccassary this time. I only do it because I like you two so very much. 😱 The thunderstorm sequence was quite scary to watch. Even more because I knew that you didn't fix your inflatable dinghy before leaving the anchorage. By the way: You might not have forgotten to pull the plug if you had fixed the air chambers. Please, please don't do something like this in the future. The rescue equipment must always be first priority (even for people with so incredibly much luck than you two have). Imagine that you would've had to use the dinghy in a rescue situation in it's pathetic state = almost airless and full of water! 🙈 I wanna watch a lot your great videos in the future. Therefore please kindly allow me to suggest something: Maybe a checklist can help. Before leaving a harbour or anchorage, simply always check the essentials. Thanks in advance. 3) Your two nice guests have been very helpful in many ways. The boating community seems to be great all over the world. Best regards, luck, health and wisdom in particular
