I know, right? They already have a lot invested in theirs all plan, but Yaba would make a great junk rig. I love junk rigs, but my current boat is a cutter. She was converted from a ketch in 2006 by a previous owner. I also like ketch rigs, but in my size (50 foot) a single mast is more efficient

About a week ago, I stumbled across your video when you first raised your sails and MC got emotional. Well, that led me to your very first video and for a week, I have streamed every episode, I was fascinated. Not only that you bought that piece of junk, but that you actually sailed her in that condition. But as time wore on, and you were in the yards with what I can only describe as ARTISIANS, and the boat was completly rebuilt, I bagan rooting for you. MC's emotions became mine. Your growing love of your boat became mine. I fell in love with Brazil. I am a dog lover so of course I fell in love with your two. Now, to see you actually sailing, the beautiful work you have done and your adventures ahead, I'm jealous. Please extend my marvel and admiration to the ship wrights that built your beautiful YABA and fair winds ahead.

Just watching it really looks like we could improve your sail shape signifiantly. You need a couple running pulleys mounted down on the deck right under the clew of the forward two sails. This would allow you to capture a lot of the wind that is currently getting dumped out the bottom of your sail. Probably worth a knot or two. IMHO. fair winds guys!

The sails are a bit small for such a huge heavy yacht, and the rigging allows for far too much slack. You might want to get some help with new schooner rigging to get some speed out of her. Great looking boat .

It's awesome to see Yaba under sail. I can't help but wonder if you wouldn't get better performance with a boom and mast mounted sail on the fore mast instead of the big staysail mounted there. Of course, being a bit of an unreconstructed traditionalist I'd rather see her as a full gaff rigged boat but whatever. Cool video, guys!

Lovely to sail with family. MP's parents, parents did so much to support the build, perticularly her Dad, who passed on his electrical knowledge. I would suggest using a lanyard for the hand held radios, it only takes a moment to drop the radio, and as you learnt from the outboard story, most things are gone. It also means that when you have to rely on devices at critical times, there will be much less chance of things going wrong. As the UK's MAIB (MArine Accident Investigation Branch) puts it: Accidents are usually a series of events, that accumulate to to make a situation much worse.

Looking good. Just a friendly remark (not meant as criticism!!) if you point the boat against the wind, it is a lot easier to hoist or lower the sails. Also causes less stress on the rigging, therefore your it will last longer. Keep up the good work!

i’m thinking you should rig her as a gaff rig…seems like you need more sail area to get her to cruise at 6-7 knots in these conditions…i think it’s very doable…it will also keep the sail power down lower to waterline to maintain stability even with your short draft…she would also have better proportions visually… she’s a beauty!…great work!…what a fine party boat you’ve built!…exciting! cheers!

Hi. MP: now I know finally were you got that captivating smile of yours, obviously form your mother. Guys: if I were in your place I would consider strongly to build some sort of a lifting crane at the aft platform to raise the dinghy with its motor so you can get rid of the drag it produces when sailing/motoring. And BTW why not attach a stainless steel lather so you can more easily go in and out of the water? Fascinating story about the defense system in Florianópolis. Cheers from NE Patagonia, Argentina.

I did wonder, seeing the dinghy getting pulled left and right as the tow-rope tensioned and relaxed, whether it might be a smart move to add a second, slightly looser line in case the first one parted... At least you'd have a chance to notice the issue before you lost the dinghy for good! Alternatively, you could make a point of always hauling the dinghy onto the platform, or you could fit davits.
