Episode #269 : Season 9 : The South Pacific
Hello Friends,
On this episode we say goodbye to Tahiti and have an easy and quick motor sail to Moorea. After a peaceful night on the hook, I wake up in one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited; Magical Moorea. I get into some land adventures with Jay West where we go find the blue eyed eels in a fresh water creek then I head out for a dinghy adventure in the outer reaches of the lagoon.

Amazing to see a creek flowing when you're in the middle of the ocean. This island is small but has so much. I like the background music. It seems more pronounced lately, and it adds to the footage.

To James! a bird tells me you might get the courage to sail your boat from France to Australia over a very long passage. Do not ever make long passages like this! Make sure you stop at every supply hub ! Make sure you do not bite off more than you can chew! And keep your main sail maintained! Even though you think it is new and ready. The new sail gets chafed very badly. I hear you may be stranded with no help. God bless and safe smart travels. Less people less disaster🖖🤟🤯🌏🌠🇽🇰📅 stay cool, Don't over heat.

You can find eels almost any/everywhere freshwater runs into the ocean. Young eels live in small coastal streams/waters while growing, head to sea as adults, and come back to breed later. A friend of mine used to catch them commercially, and he told me he would set his nets up *anywhere* fresh water met salt - ditches, creeks, culverts, small dams... and almost always would catch at least some.

One thing i learned in 35 years cruising. Is in shallow water 10 to 1 is minimum. In deep water 50 feet or more 3 to 1 is totally fine. There are books about this stuff. Besides you paid for that chain. So put it all out. I know you have a hand crank,but save youre boat,not youre back.
@SailorJames
@SailorJames Жыл бұрын
You never need 10-1 unless it’s a hurricane and you won’t find a book that says otherwise

@@SailorJames well james its best to anchor with a hurricane in mind at all times then. Here in indonesia and thailand and malaysia we get 50 knots 3 times a week. Usually at 3 am I once saw 80 knots in in indo. There called sumatras More so in indo but can be like this in phuket too.Some seasons. Here in phuket most boats drag anchore there first week or two.they figure it out . More scope. These are short lived squalls less than 4 hours. You will see.
