I never comment on any videos on KZbin (just not my thing) but I just can’t stay silent this time. I love all your videos and watching your travel adventures. I think what is so special about you two Is that you guys are willing to share your inexperience and be humble. I think people can relate to that. It’s not all polished and professional in what you guys do Please keep posting your adventures I’ve watched them all twice so far and I’m looking for forward to new content Al in Langley BC

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, Al! It's comments like these that really keep us motivated to continue to create more videos. Just a note- if you have instagram, we share a lot of daily happenings and more current situations in the "stories" feature- sharing via that platform allows us to show everyone what we have going on without having to spend hours upon hours editing. We are "cruisingmaya" on instagram. THANK YOU again for the inspiring comment! We really appreciate it!

Great video! 2 fish on one lure reminds me of a story. A friend of mine was halibut fishing and pulling in dog fish all day. Everyone else was catching halibut, but not this poor fellow. Around dinner time he gets all excited, he’s got something on and it’s way heavier than a dog fish, he carefully brought it up and now the running joke is “you know what’s heavier than a dog fish?.....2 dog fish!!” 🤣🤣🤣
@CruisingMaya4 жыл бұрын
Brutal that he was expecting a monster halibut only to catch two dogfish! Fishing was unbelievable in BC. We've been out fishing like 5 times this summer in the San Juan Islands and we haven't caught a thing! We miss BC dearly. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

Just found your channel. Great videos. We must have just missed each other.. we circumnavigated Vanc Island in a clockwise direction. We rounded Brooks on July 13th then explored Quatsino Sound for several days and rounded Cape Scott on July 23. We were stuck in Sea Otter Cove for 2 nights with winds steady at 35 knots in the anchorage. Thank goodness for the storm moorings there. Look forward to seeing the rest of your adventure. SV Cariba

That's awesome you were out on the West side the same time as us.We rounded Brooks on the 19th or 20th of July so we probably saw you out there! We actually skipped Sea Otter Cove due to a big storm- we weren't sure there would be enough protection from the swell. Thanks for watching and commenting! Really appreciate it.
@suepeck27724 жыл бұрын
Cruising Maya we had lots of wind but no swell to speak of...great place to hide out in

Curious why the motor is always going and you are not sailing? Would a motorboat have been a better choice? Love the videos and audio of the fish loss :)

Great questions. We'll be the first to admit that we are not diehard sailors. We like sailing when conditions are just right- many times wind during the summer, winds can be weak and flukey, not to mention tidal currents, etc. Additionally, most of our travel days during this trip were longer distances- a lot of 8 hour days which we didn't want to make into 10 or 12 hour days if we sailed. Thankfully Maya's engine is extremely effiecent. We have plans on taking Maya to Mexico so we should be sailing more in the future, but for cruising in the PNW, the trawler is the boat of choice. If we didn't have offshore aspirations, we would have a trawler of some kind. Thanks for your questions and we are so glad you enjoyed our videos.

I'm almost certain that the inlet you are exploring at the beginning of the video is the one where the first couple of seasons of "Alone" were filmed. If you're not familiar, it's a survival reality show that, apparently and according to the limited research I've done regarding the show, is not staged as many of them are.
@CruisingMaya2 жыл бұрын
I think you are correct! We watched that series and I think the contestants were just around the way from where we anchored- totally rugged place! Hard to believe we got to explore the area in total comfort from the boat while those people were on in the forest. We love that show! Thanks for the comment and for watching- cheers!

Great vids… I’m early in my shopping for a sailboat . Curious about how disco does his biz ? I have a pit/Aussie mix . Is there a potty pad you lay out in between ports ?
@CruisingMaya Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much- glad you are enjoying the videos. Disco does her business on the boat when we can't make it to shore. We have a little astro turf pad trick we use. We are actually editing a video about that- Should be up in a couple of weeks so stay tuned!

I was told that stuff is called Sea Asparagus. To bad you didn't have a head mounted GoPro on for when you were landing that Salmon.
@CruisingMaya4 жыл бұрын
We've had other people comment about that being called sea asparagus so I think you're right. Tasty stuff! Ugh I know I wish we had gotten that footage, but we were a total disaster. If you keep watching further episodes you'll see we redeem ourselves 😎

What West coast sailing guide books describing straight, cove, bay, current, tides, etc... would you recommend?
@CruisingMaya4 жыл бұрын
We used the guidebook, "Vancouver Island's West Coast" by Don Douglass. We also used Waggoner's Guide. Both are very useful. We also used the Navionics phone app, which we love for planning and chartplotting. We should be putting out a trip overview video where we talk about lots of trip details so stay tuned for that. Thanks for watching!

oh man, horrible rats nest. Suprised a salmon bit on that lure. But it's the west coast so the fish are bigger! Need a longer net handle? Good luck next time, losing fish is unfortunatly part of fishing.
@CruisingMaya4 жыл бұрын
We learned a lot by losing that fish and exploding our fishing reel. Certainly we learned we need a longer net..... stay tuned as we redeem ourselves in a big way 😎. Thanks for watching and commenting! Really appreciate it!
@mikella959 Жыл бұрын
hey i know this happened more than 2 years ago but you need to look at the regulations for salmon fishing while in canada barbed hooks are illegal for salmon
@CruisingMaya Жыл бұрын
You are correct on that
@Ronsgonefishing3 жыл бұрын
I'm enjoying your videos. I think you underestimate your boats capabilities.. What you call big swells is really nothing on the west coast. Big rollers (4-6 meters) are quite common there.
@CruisingMaya3 жыл бұрын
We were definite rookies on that trip- still learning but have more sea miles under our belts these days. Happy to report Maya is taking good care of us. Thanks so much watching our videos!
