Hey! Why not build up the walls of the well with another row or two of blocks. This will help the prevent the mud from flowing back into the well when you have heavy rains. Maybe even clear back more of the land back away and make a mini patio around it out or blocks, could be from recycle patio blocks.

Hello you guys, this is Nelson & Maureen. We started our home stead in Western Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Regarding your 💦 well . Our advice is to go to Home Depot get a 300 gallon 300 dollars for tank for drinking water and a water pump from sams Club about 232 dollars, you will need 11/4 pipe . Very important get a 1 1/4 reverse valve , shutting valve additional pipe glue heavy pipe . WhatI truly like about the Sam’s club pump it will give you strong pressure for all you water needs at the same time has an expansion tank . Easy to in stall . You get a 3 stage whole house water filter and a zero water filter for you person drinking water 💦. Good luck if you need further assistance reach out to me , by responding to this message.

If you want to go uphill with the water without electricity you can make a gravity pump. Another channel (Nomadic Movement) made one going up a mountainside about 100 ft in Panama. Save energy and that way if you ever lose power due to storms/hurricanes your fresh water pump will still work. I'm sure you can look up the parts/plumbing you need online, love the new videos guys keep up the great work!! :)

What you need is a gas powered 1-inch clear water transfer pump with a check valve right after the pump so it will hold the water in the line. Next i would have a big rain barrel for it to fill up at the top of the hill where you are living for storage, so the gas pump doesn't have to run all the time. Then get a small 12-volt submersible pump with a pressure shut of switch to put in the rain barrel and have it go through a filtration system for drinking, showers and laundry. Hope this info helps you guys, keep up the good work.
@krumple8560 Жыл бұрын
Here in West Virginia what you have is called a "Spring Box". They were once a very common way to gather clean water for a homestead. Your challenge is going to be lifting the water to the top of the hill. The other challenge is going to be voltage drop over the length of electrical wire from the top of the hill. Big pump for the lift means big wire to feed the pump over the distance. If you don't have enough voltage at the pump it will overheat and die. Two ways to reduce voltage drop, either raise the voltage or use bigger wire.
@hectorcorniel3422 Жыл бұрын
There's not problem with the voltage , voltage drop wouldn't be the big to prevent the pump to run.
@curtstacy779 Жыл бұрын
Voltage drop at 200 feet is a concern. if he goes with 120 volts at 200 feet and has a 20 amp service at the pump he would need to use 6 AWG copper. if you don't do it properly he will have the world's biggest toaster.@@hectorcorniel3422

Matt - I think you need a cistern (holding tank) at the elevation you will use the water. The pump at the spring will lift the water slowly to fill the cistern. You then have a pump at the cistern that turns on when you open the tap / switch on the washing machine etc. Your RV will have that sort of system. My boat does. Your house, when you build it, will need the same. You can then draw the water at the rate you need it, not at the rate of the pump lifting water 60 feet up. Or, you have a cistern above ground level and gravity delivers your water pressure at the point of use. For the rise, in freedom units, the pump with a 1" pipe, rising 60 feet, will be pushing about 20 lbs of water in the pipe. Or 9kg in metric. Install a wider pipe and the weight of water increases exponentially. A 2" pipe has 111 lbs / 46kg of water to push against. I hope that helps.
@jefffletcher8209 Жыл бұрын
Matt and Kristen, STOP! Take your water to the nearest town or city and get the water checked. In the meantime boil it. I’m sure you had to boil water on your boat. Unless the municipality has power to your gorgeous 8 acres you’re gonna need some power either way do you want a diesel powered generator running 24/7? I like your idea of a small pool for rest and refresh from PR heat.

@davidburnham5411 Жыл бұрын
Matt, you need a two stage system. You can lift 100' with a 1.5 hp pump at a sufficient flow rate to fill a storage tank located by the house/trailer. You can install a float switch in the storage tank that will connect to the pump by the natural pool. You will have a separate pump to send water to the house/trailer and I would install a Big Blue 2 stage filter between the Pool and the storage tank. If you buy a 9 stage reverse osmosis system with a UV light, you can have clean drinking water in the house/trailer. If you installed a mini hydro electric generator and had a few batteries with an invertor, you could use that to power the pool pump. You are a working machine....

@novemberhotel5069 Жыл бұрын
100% agree the pump you need to get from the seep to the top is a very different pump you need to give pressure to the washing machine etc. First pump the elevation to a storage tank situated as high as possible on the land then gravity feed or use a booster pump for use at the top. The real bonus here is that if you build the house below the current camper level you would probably not need a booster…. Every 30feet of elevation drop would give you 1 bar of pressure. So if the house is built anywhere from 30 feet or more below the storage tank … no booster pump required Make the storage tank as big as possible…. Then only pump for a few hours every couple days to fill it… most pumps will last much longer this way that turning on and off 15 times a day. Each pump will L have a volume to height graph pick a pump based on the graph not on the kw

If you are confident that there has been no chemical contamination on you land. Then all you have to do for drinking water is. A) Boil it for 7 minutes, then allow to cool over night in an aluminium pan with a cloth over the top. Let it settle 12hrs. Silt will fallout, then put through a carbon filter . Then bottle and put in the fridge. Chill & drink. Lived in Central Africa for 3 years. Thats how we did it. You must boil drinking water and allow it to settle. You will be ok with that.

Look at pumping in 2 stages. The lowest powered pump possible to lift water to a 60 foot head to a reserve tank up high not caring about water pressure - and solar powered. a 2nd pump for use at proper water pressure. You can also look at building a weir for a filtering system - the weir would capture the siltation before it enters the water and would be removed from there. A top to the well - or at minimum raising the side walls above ground will also help. You may consider some waterproof (hydraulic) cement on the walls of the well. Nice work BTW.

Wouldn't it be so much simpler to hire someone to dig a well, where your gonna build your house? Typically, houses are built on high ground, especially if there's a scenic view, and the grade of the driveway is easy to drive on. The materials and equipment to build a house would need ready access to a level home sight with water available right there. After you get your poultry business up and running, after you rehab the old house you reroofed for doing laundry and storing building material, and after you build a swimming pool by the old well, maybe a new house will be on your to-do list. If there's a new water well at the home sight, you'll appreciate your foresight.

Matt and Kristen, I think that a deep well submersible pump may be your best method to pump water to your house. I'm unsure as to whether you have 220-240 volt or 110-120 volt. From what I have found a 115 volt will give you only 1/2 hp and is capable of pumping up to 125 feet in rise. Be aware of those that claim otherwise and do your homework before purchasing. The 230 volt units all claim to give you at least 10 gallons/hour with a lift of over 200 feet. Cheers! Blue Skies and Fair Weather. Faithfully, James

The end of the video was quite bizarre. Usually y'all say something before the video runs out and say you'll see us next time but this time it just ended. I don't know if that was a mistake or what. I would encourage you to get a man our woman that is skilled in laying block so you can build your block up to prevent more mud from getting in your spring box. I would suggest also using rebar going down into where you connect with the other block so it gives it some strength so if the Earth does move it doesn't push the block down. You will need to build a box around and over the spring box to keep it clean I would then seek advice from someone that deals in pumps to help you learn what to do or to provide you with the service of getting the water pumped up to the top of the hill. Either you will have to have electricity installed where you are at or you will have to use a generator to operate the pump. I believe it's going to be necessary to get a professional to do this work otherwise you will constantly have problems trying to figure out why you keep losing Prime. With that distance to go up the hill that is going to be a big deal to figure out on your own. Also wear gloves when using any sharp tool to protect your hands so when the handles break you don't end up getting cut.

its not the horse power you need, its the amount of impellers that are built within the pump that force the water up hill so to speak. you would most likely need at least a 20-30 phase Pump, 20-30 impellers built within. Here in the States, for deep ground home well's say 400-500ft deep that is what I have, its a half horse 25 phase submersible pump that is self priming. Just my as a homeowner who has had to replace one advise. Take it for a grain of salt tho, consult your local experts there in PR.

Figuring out the “lift” the pump needs is 2.31’ = 1 psig So 60’ would be 26’thd That’s just to get the water up to the elevation. Then you need to add what pressure you want ~50psig = 115.5’ of head. So you need 175~thd without ft of friction from piping. Piping will have specs for fittings and pipe friction loss. To figure the HP needed, you will be on the pump manufacturers specs. that will include the flow rate. All appliances, sprinklers etc will need to be added up to figure out GPM@THD. You will need a pressurized bladder tank to eliminate water hammering. Great video.
@nealsivie5874 Жыл бұрын
Engineering the pump: 1) Figure out your power solution as the pump will have to reside next to the well 2) Use your phone to capture the elevation difference in feet 3) Determine your consumption needs in gallons 4) The pump size is based on gallons, psi output, and feet of pump head required 5) The pump head is calculated from the vertical elevation in feet + assume 5 feet in pipe fitting loss 6) Use 1” pipe and then reduce to 3/4” after 100 feet 7) Add in a check valve near the discharge side of the pump 8) Consider adding a water storage tank near the top of the hill and a secondary pump (which you have already). Add a water float level in the tank to trigger the well pump (that contactor can be found at Home Depot in the sprinkler section 9) Alternative to the float level, you could use a sprinkler controller to manage the start/stop of the pump 10) Solve the power issue first
@nealsivie5874 Жыл бұрын
One more thing. The Min PSI required is determined from this. You need 2.31 psi to move water one vertical foot.

3/4 hp jet pump will be fine with 3/4 output line. Your jet pump can be 30” or more up the hill from you well. You will save on electric wire. Or like one said in the comments get a holding tank and put it next to the big baller trailer. Keep up the great work you land lovers. 😊

I love that you are not afraid to tackle the difficult things you stumble on. Keep it up and you will realize the fruits of all your hard work. Water is the source of Life. I like the idea of clearing back and adding a patio and Well house to help keep the water cleaner.

We used a 1/2 hp well pump to bring up spring water to House 200 ft away, 100 ft rise. Working 20 years now. ❣️❣️❣️

if you put a pool lower than it, you could make a overflow that empties into the pool. That way, you keep drinking water separate from a pool. You could even add a plug of sorts to the pool, so that you can easily change the water out.

My home well runs off a half horsepower pump with a 10 gallon pressure tank to Pump from a 60 ft well. The motor can run off 110 or 220. You can pick one up at Lowe's for $300

The spring needs to be protected from contamination. Any rain of any substance will flood it with mud. You should add several rows of concrete block, add a stick of appropriate length rebar, fill the cells.

Research size of pump, water is Heavy,HEAVY, it requires a lot to pump Up Hill. Also start out with a larger size pipe and reduce it down as you get closer to the end of the run . Volume is key with the Right Pressure .. That's a long way to go with such a drastic incline...

Thanks for the videos , so many comments of people who want to see you succeed! I feel there love for you guys and bet half of them want to jump on a plane ride to help you . For me it’s always the beginning of each episode when you Mr. Mathew, ad-lib and I watch your sweetie smile from ear to ear in amazement of how much fun you make of each task. And I always say,,,,men like to build because we can’t give birth so on that note ,,,I see an oasis in the middle of your jungle and the pool has fish in it to keep the water clean ,,,and there’s a beach,,,,,,,with a fire pit,,,,,

The water pump calculation depends on several factors you have not mentioned. How much power (not voltage, but watts) is available for the pump? Are you going to put a tank or other water storage at the far end? How consistent is the water supply? Is there a dry season for a few months of the year? The sixty foot rise provides some challenge, but a small diameter pipe can run for hours at a time, if that is compatible with your electric supply.

A gravity pump would be a cool project for this application. Several good videos on the subject and it requires no electricity or fuel.
