And that is why real live a boards keep a good stock of food aboard! Yes it is tinned or long life but it's surprising how many times it gets you out of a jamb. When you get enough power and access to a hardware store try some powered brass wire brushes in a drill on the windlass. It will come up like new. (dont use steel brushes). Always good info and entertainment from you. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

We've been living aboard and sailing for 18 years. Hubby a professional rigger and mechanic. When we had tarnished brass, a brass cleaner/polish company's rep told me that what really works is Lysol toilet bowl cleaner, followed by 600 grit wet sand, then spray lacquer 6 coats. It worked amazingly! Good luck and safe sailing⛵💨

Yes the extreme heat & sun break down the thread & elastic. I found removal of elastic in the waist band and replacing it with a cord or ribbon drawstring works well. All the undies get ruined really fast as well. That could be one reason for all the relaxed casual clothes in the Caribbean. Sorry you are having to go through quarantine. That first day of freedom will be enjoyed with a meal of fresh veggies & fruits. Enjoy. ♡

I'm sure that there is plenty of people here in the uk that would loved to be quarantined in grenada. The pleasant evenings, the swimming in crystal waters, watching the wildlife ,going out on a dingy exploring, fishing etc. Oh, what a lovely quarantine you have!!

Bonjour les amis bien confinés en Grenada. how pleasant it is for us, ok, for me to vicariously get out of the house. as stated before, quarantine number two is happening here in France. We have a curfew too. sorting the rubbish twice a week, no onions and fresh veggies aie aie ! nontheless, you're together, a calm rolling sea, shining windlass and a loving partner who will read to you. it doesn't get much better. cheers

Filmed in Aug kinda says it all. Europe was relaxing things and the skies were opening up. As i mentioned before, many travellers took the oppertunity to return home. Few stuck it out and continue to stick it out now. No shame in packing up and returning seeing how the MSM ramped up the fear factor dispite what we now know about the virus. It is such a shame that your viewing numbers have dropped off since you posted that you were selling the boat, but that was to be expected...your quarantine video came a bit late too due to the time delay...people are just sick of lockdown in all its forms. We have always been positive about your channel and you will be missed by us, so sorry that everything we said above sounds quite negative, but maybe sometimes it is ok to get a comment that is not super, fantastic, wonderful etc.....just something normal and realistic. Cheers Guys and yes we are still stuck in Africa!!!!!
@SailingKittiwake

To do that by boat we would have had to leave 1 month after our Atlantic crossing, in May. We did not want to cross again after 1 month (hurricane season starts in June). We can't think of anyone willing to do that, tbh. Most people just flew back to their home (we don't have a home and storing the boat here costs as much as renting a house), but flying to Europe from here was extremely hard. We have no regrets - we did what was right for us :)

@@SailingKittiwake We don't doubt you did the right thing. We too have no house. In these difficult times for travelling there is no easy solutions and monies get swallowed up very quickly which is very disheartening. We hope that you will get back on your feet and look forward to future videos from yourselves. P.S last week we bought a boat!! Not as good as yours. It is a river cruiser which we will live aboard in the UK which will solve our homeless problem. Just need to get back to the UK!! xxxx

It's sad they didn't have a way for you to get food delivered but it's good that you had all that emergency rations onboard. When nonperishable are on sale I filled the hidden compartments with emergency rations. I like the look of aged bronze...I wander why they painted that nice old windlass myself. Great decision to bring it back to bronze! Really enjoy your videos and really hope you didn't sell your home. Only hint I got was the comments on the last video since I'm only watching the episodes then I will go back threw to the supplemental videos. I would of thought by now you would be over the not being able to sleep on the boat...LOL...Glad you found a way to do it. Just curious, would they let you break quarantine is a hurricane came? Keep living the dream!

nice job,really an upgrade of this piece of history ! Italians suffer with this kind of dishes,for many others this would be a luxury already.Sounds tasty anyway. I have seen all kinds of curry here in India,yours is quite an innovation ! Currona19 style.
@SailingKittiwake
@SailingKittiwake 3 жыл бұрын
Haha! True. Although I know all my Indian friends would have a pretty theatrical reaction to the curry's ingredients (but they are lucky ones who could afford to study abroad). It was just a bit of banter. If we have learned to be grateful for what we have, is by living in undeveloped places for the last 7 months. The Caribbean reminds me a lot of India.

@@martinc9867 I can imagine. It's been the same in the southern Caribbean islands, where we've been. Many people live in huts made of recycled materials. For some reason people think of the Caribbean as a fancy holiday place but the reality is very different. People look through the rubbish every day 😔 Fresh water is so scarce, it only comes from the sky.

Try a swell bridle to stop the rolling Sailing Satori shows how to make one
@SailingKittiwake
@SailingKittiwake 3 жыл бұрын
That only works when there is enough wind to keep the boat into position. As you can see from the water conditions, there is 0 knots of wind there. When you have no other choice and the swell is too big to be overcome by the flopper stopper, sleeping perpendicular to the boat is the only option.
