To rate SLV #157 I have to use an Australian word I've never used, only heard: Bonzer. This was truly, genuinely, absolutely one bonzer episode. Fair dinkum. Loved the shot of Riley's dad perched on the boat, absolutely relaxed, legs splayed, happy as a clam. Great he gets along so well with his son, a good precious soul, that man. Good to hear Elayna saved Riley's life. Five stars for that, maybe six. Good eye, good move. Loved the lasagna thing. Great swimming shots. Loved the weather analysis and that you can say you never saw this type of weather before, stirring info and drama. Loved watching the great care getting back in the marina. Good interview of E by R about BabyMcBabyface and the future. The sum of this video was more than its parts. There is a good feel to this one. Lots of warm fuzzies. ευχαριστώ as they say in Greece and perhaps parts of South Coober Pedy.

Homeschooling is the ONLY way to go especially when on a never ending world cruise! What an incredible classroom indeed!!! When my wife got pregnant we ended our 6 years of sailing together and moved to shore (ending my lifetime of sailing amid my other shoreside adventures). I have regretted that ever since and it truly was the saddest day of my life and the beginning of my downhill run to the point where now I am too old and ill (in hospice) to ever sail again. But alas, my great memories are lasting forevermore and what you two / three are creating now and in the future. Thank you for helping me remember in vivid color and detail what it is and was all about as I relive the adventure via your videos. Thank you for sharing with all of us :-) o---) (that 0---) is my anchor)... I see 3 sailing gals are pregnant and all seem to want to keep sailing. Good for all of you. And please remember to get married (in some fashion ie: commit to each other for life till death do you part which might not be long with "a stitch a day" Riley :-)

I completely agree that children make you appreciate such "little" things. My son is nearly 3 and in those 3 years I've had a newfound appreciation for jumping up and down, how funny noodles look, how entertaining throwing rocks in a stream can be, and how fire engines are the coolest things on earth. Parenthood, although challenging, is such a great adventure.

This is my favourite episode, it was special to see how you both got excited about raising a child on a boat. DON"T let anyone ever tell you that your child would be better off being raised on shore. Home schooling, travelling and exposing your child first hand to different cultures and experiences that can only be had living your lifestyle will give him/her a better education than any amount of money or traditional schooling could ever hope to provide, and he/she will be wise beyond their years because of it. You may have already checked out these other sailing channels with kids that show how special it is to raise kids on a boat, Sailing Totem, Sailing Catalpa, Sailing Trio Travels, Sailing Zatara, Lazy Gecko Sailing, Sailing Britaly, Sailing Britican, The Daley Adventures (also about to have their first baby), Jessica and Ryan Adventures (another couple about to have their first baby). Good Luck and I look forward to your next video.

Hi Elaina and Riley, Elaina stated that she believes a child will cause you both to refocus on simpler things. I have a 30 year old and a 24 year old and I remember finding such joy in their learning and excitement in those things that we all learned so much more. These little things are huge to them and it is how mommy and daddy become the smartest people in their world. The last thing I want to do is hijack the comments section. As "Absolutely B" said about Homeschooling it is not for everyone. It is a lot of work to ensure your child gets a good education that will serve them well in life. What I will say if a person actually goes to their Childs school and spends the day with them, you will see how much of the day is spent not teaching or educating our Children. There are many others reasons that we chose to Homeschool our child, who is now 30, but those I will keep for myself.

100% right on homeschooling, Elayna! Seeing the world through your kids’ eyes makes it all seem fresh and wondrous again. I homebirthed my first baby and it just seemed natural to roll into homeschooling. We do a kind called unschooling and right now we’re actually worldschooling which is what you described here - actually travelling the world to learn about it firsthand. It’s the best, and my husband and I get to live our lives with our most favourite people in the world - how lucky are we?! Go for gold, you’ll nail it :) x

Elayna, I love the last bit about you two talking about your little one coming; the mechanics of having him/her onboard & possibly home/boat schooling. You guys should REALLY check out another Family's KZbin channel called "The Bucket List Family". They're also around your ages. They toted around their 2 little babes/toddlers for 3 years, while they travelled all over the world! It was just so inspirational how they travelled as a family, going on all these adventures, & watching the kids learning & trying new things. They also try to do service work in each country they visit, to give back & teach their kids about generosity. They also worked at getting AMAZING sponsorships & were gifted tons of PAID travel packages in exchange for reviews. Check it out! It would be so cool if you two families eventually did a couple episodes together (you guys meeting them somewhere, or them coming on your cat!). I think you two families would love each other!

Awesome episode as always. That is a Caribbean Scorpion Fish 🦂, glad you missed it Riley that would of been another fun trip to the hospital.
@bunyipdan6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree Reef or Caribbean Scorpionfish (Scorpaenodes caribbaeus), pretty sure there are no Stonefish (Synanceia verrucosa) over there. Stonefish are truly gnarley, they have an upturned mouth like a bulldog (as in the illustration they showed) and are very rock like so much so I think they manage to convince themselves. Both are sort of related along with lionfish all are serious enough to ruin your day. I have had the unfortunate honour of being on the receiving end of a scopionfish sting (oz species) and present when a friend did the Irish mine detector dance and stood on a stonefish and can tell you anecdotally that a sting from a stonefish feels like your foot has been chopped off with a blunt chainsaw then submerged in a bucket of metho, the and scorpionfish is more like you have injected your foot with metho from a very sharp needle both arguably very painfull but the stonefish is soooo much worse (needs hospitilisation can be fatal....what isn't in oz). As with any marine fish envenomations it is protein based so application of heat is your best first aid.....hot water as hot as you can bare, treat the patient for shock, until medical care can be reached. These fish generally do not aggressively or attack people but prefer to lay around minding their own business waiting to ambush unsuspecting fish, and unfortunately it is this habit that can result in a negative interaction with us humans stumbling about in the ocean.
@captainmarkgray88566 жыл бұрын
Sadly I was the victim of a Red Scorpion Fish I caught off Santa Barbara California USA (it happens to the best of us just like large fish hooks in our knuckle but that's another story, the Scorpion got me when I was trying to release it, should have cut the line lol :-) All I could do was hold a cold 2 liter of soda to ease the pain a bit. Somehow it seemed to work (ever so slightly but enough to seem to help). I guess I toughed it out more or less. With any venom it is always best to stay calm and being a USMC Vietnam Vet etc, I do know how to stay very calm under any circumstance. I may move fast but inside I am as calm as possible thus and with venom it is good if you lay down and even go to sleep if possible to let the poison move as slowly as possible vs your heart beating 100 miles a minute and hitting your heart with a bang. Just saying, stay calm... always... and you will do a better job of ? staying alive etc...

In general, if it is easy to notice the eyes it is a scorpionfish. If the eyes are hard to spot even after you know where they are, it is a stonefish. And if it moves, it is usually a scorpionfish.

LOL...I’m 63 and I’ve earned my wonderfully happy alone time to just be me. Of course, it probably wouldn’t be possible if I weren’t single and single is suiting me to a tee right now. You two have a wonderful life. Enjoy every moment because it will go so fast you just can’t imagine. Living this life you’re living and documenting so much of it will be priceless and I commend you for getting it right, in my book anyway. Live, love and love some more. It’s what it’s all about. It’s not about things it’s about love, happiness and contentment and right now it looks like you have it in spades. Being able to watch you live this big happy adventure has brought happiness into my life. I would love to live on the water and I did as much of it as I was able to in my youth, so watching your life brings back some happy memories of days gone by. Ya! ''I Reckon'' It's a common term in many parts of the USA as well, I've used that term so many times I can't recall, usually country folk and Western Cowboys--people in the city use the term ''I think so!'' you know ''City Slickers'' Ha Ha Movie link to a reckoning : kzbin.info/www/bejne/goO5maeMeMutpZo

*+HOC fairseas* Yeah, all good. I suppose it was the way Tony said it, particularly because it became a familiar turn of phrase here in NZ in the mid 1970s. Still, it's interesting how such colloquialisms travel the planet. "Good day" (or "hello") may have been the formal/less formal greeting in parts of Britain, so Strylya/NZ accent adjusted it too, "Gidday". However in the Antipodes, it's less commonly said than it was for most of the twentieth century. Funny how it hasn't really caught on with other parts of the pancake (ha-ha, j/k), I mean *globe* yet so many of us intersperse our greetings from many other nations and cultures. e.g. we have _ciao_ as pretty much accepted lingo for 'goodbye' from all and sundry, regardless of nation of origin.

We had two babies whilst cruising first in Fiji and second in Thailand but are on a working in the UK break now so it's great to look at some beautiful beaches and imagine ourselves back diving and living a wilder life. We have more space here on our tiny narrowboat but the sailing is where our hearts are. You're absolutely right when you say it will be better with the little one. Sure you'll get less sleep and no doing nothing time but you will see so much and it will be SO AMAZING! Try it, I think you might like it. No idea why but she either stopped writing or moved her blog - maybe the kids didn't like being written about. Sailing writers I've read have said their children gained hugely from the life. Make friends easily, practical skills/understanding nav/geography/peoples helps them do well in school, so they say. Generally recommended life ashore for the baby years though iirc - health worries and such. Haven't read of any grown up children of cruisers saying they regret it.

Beard, perhaps, but Connery, as a Scottish nationalist, wouldnae be amused by a suggestion that he has an Aussie accent. 🤬

Life is throwing me a bit of a curveball. yet when I turn on your channel it straightens out the pitch, if you will, for a moment. thank you for that. truly one of your best episodes. (and if there were ever parents who would qualify for "home schooling", it is certainly you guys!)

Elayna, your so right having a little one onboard throughout her or his different ages just adds to the adventure a new way of looking at almost everything. Happy, sad or whatever there is nothing more fun than sharing your world with them and someday they sharing it back with you. I'm so very happy for you both. Great ending BTW, that was funny and unexpected. Al Seattle, WA

I think we're living in an amazing time when it comes to home schooling options. There are a few decades now of experience in this field and many of your sailing fraternity are successfully home schooling whilst raising their children at sea and trotting the globe. There will be some that question the lack of daily integration with other children but from what I have seen, they are quite able to build strong and lasting friendships with other children of the sailing community. What they gain is an incomparable real world education, based on real life and world experience, not just a reference book or PowerPoint presentation. I am sure both of you have the academic skills to become great tutors and I really look forward to following this adventure with you.

Y'all nailed it on how you two view having your baby onboard. Ignore the negative people and don't let their negativity affect your lives!

Been watching since the beginning...but not a big social media guy, so first time commenting...I just had to this time. Such a wave of memories and emotions watching this, as our own experience sailing to the Turks was sooo similar! My wife and I sailed there 10 years ago and our parents came for a visit as well. Went to French Cay and harvested conch (and yes, it is "conk"...that's how the locals tell the cruisers from the tourists, and you my friends, are not tourists!) and had very similar weather and skies. Makes me miss the old boat for sure (old cutter ketch monohull) but completely reinvigorated the drive to get back out there...this time with our kiddos too! Thanks for that, memories made my day! Cheers!

That bit when you two were talking about your baby. It's an interesting feeling to know my parents had many similar conversations before I was born. Makes me appreciate them more. Thank you.
