You bring tears to my eyes. Many people will be hoping with me that you will survive this battle Maya. It must be hard for Aladino too to see your struggle. Good on you to be open about mental health. As for the little ship: she is starting to look mighty fine. Perhaps it is possibke to bring some skilled friends in to speed up the process? An indoor Aladino and an outdoor Aladino to protect what is most valuable: you two! A Dutchman in England

I have watched you for years and never commented. I know that it has been hard, but I could not possibly know how hard. But your accomplishments thus far are a work of art, not just a refit. It is like you learning to play the violin. It starts slowly and builds to a crescendo. Congratulations on your work thus far. Be proud of what you have accomplished. You have been stoic. I can't wait to see you enjoying yourselves on the water. Stay resolved. It looks as though you will be rewarded soon. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.

Lovely cushions on the berths; flowers; M&A, it is really beginning to look livable and like home again. The only thing missing was a pot of Boef Bourguignon on the new stove emitting great aromas, and Maya playing her violin in trio with herself. You'll get there soon, and then all your labor, efforts, ladder climbing - up and down a thousand times - painting, varnishing, repairing, will slowly recede in memory and MAGIC CARPET II will be sailing again and take all of us along on your new adventures. Your thoughts, planning, and execution of the total rebuild of MC II has taken us all on a wonderful Magic Carpet that you both have created. Thanks for all the things you have taught us and the memories you have created for all your sailing friends. Ciao, Connie

Maya, you are amazing. What a great idea. I love your honesty about how hard it is to find joy in a massive, dirty project like a boat refit. Date night in the boat is a brilliant way to check in, and be in the space you are breaking your balls for.

What a great idea to put in the cushions and have a pleasant moment in the boat. It's like 'dry fitting' human emotions. We had a christmas with tree, lights and decs in the middle of our building site of a home while rebuilding that. Very good for the soul.

Wow, That brought back old memories. Quite a while back I was overwhelmed one day by the sheer work load. I thought, I'm good at this it shouldn't take to long , between other boat jobs it took 4 years. I learnt to plan forward but live in and enjoy the moment. That was 25 years ago, I am sitting in her cockpit now, we have done so much together. Older mate once said 'if they were cheap and easy every one would have one.

Boat building and rebuilding is a huge project that takes thousands of hours of work. The more people doing those hours the faster it gets done. My wife thought we would be using our latest project in a few months, and didn't believe me when I said two to three years. It took three years and she says "Never again" even though she did enjoy some of the work. It can be overwhelming so the secret is to do whatever you can and keep working. I like the quote attributed to Winston Churchill: "If you are going through Hell, Don't stop!"

I can totally understand how depressing it is to keep finding unexpected issues in restorations that were beyond your scope of work. Y'all have some serious moxy to have accepted it and gotten to it despite the tedious hours and much greater expenses. I've been there a few times in my years and it's not a pleasant time till things start coming together and going back together. That's a humongous amount of toil but it's beautiful and very tastefully done. Thank you for your perseverance. The mental anguish and pain will dissipate as time goes by and you're sailing as you well know. You're recovery from this PTSD will lift with every passing wave on the water cause you'll know you'll have no issues for many, many years to come. God bless you both for staying the course.

I'm remembering when I/we built our 2 story, 3 bedroom Ridge Home in 1979 how much effort it took to finish...insulation, subfloors, plumbing, electrical, sheet rock, trim, kitchen, bathrooms....whew. But now, I sit here in comfort and as an old man with 'bragging rights' - I built this!. It's a lot of work, but your beautiful floating home will take to anywhere you wish to go. God's Speed and may the winds always be in your favor. 🙂

I have empathy as I have taken on both significant home and boat renovations /rebuilds along with 2 complete body off old sports car rebuilds to original specification every nut and bolt. It is not an insignificant mental challenge to keep going over a year or more . Delayed gratification is not something many have the will to take on as we are wired for Positive , immediate, certain action future , uncertain , future results are not much of a motivation? A full refit down into the glass hull is a major project, capable of draining the spirit out of almost anybody, esp if it is not your passion. But what you get in the end is almost a brand new boat. Something you will passionately enjoy for decades. It does look incredible so far. It is difficult to exaggerate the benefits gleaned from doing the impossible, or the unbearable for gratification long delayed. You earn a part of yourself you could never otherwise discover.

You YOU!! Both are glimmers of hope for the future. It was clear to see that this task was overwhelming Maya. Pale faced she eyed more tired every episode while Aladino was complicating his work by searching for good, better and best solutions that could bring the project to perfection while the human condition was suffering more and more under strain. Suffocating atmospheres ask for breathing space and room for relatives and relativity’s. Your story keeps moving me again and again. Please take some time of, rest and recharge.
