One of the hidden charms of the Magic Carpet episodes is the outstanding music selection. Many content creators do not emphasize this aspect but Maya nails it every time. I agree with an earlier comment that the current music selection seems to indicate a more contented editor This is always a good thing.

If the coambing was the only creative and special element, that alone screams customization, yet, thanks to Aladino's and Maya's combined effort, more special parts keep appearing to create this masterpiece of a boat rebuild.

Upon the azure canvas, a vessel set to roam, "Magic Carpet" embarks, seeking lands unknown. Sails catching whispers, it dances with the breeze, Chasing sunsets and tales, over the open seas. Through moonlit nights and starry dreams it sails, To exotic shores, where adventure never fails. In distant isles and spice-scented air it weaves, A journey of wonder, where the heart believes

I have watched this channel for some time. Aladino has come out of his "shell" over time preferring to hang in the background in the beginning. I am not a sailor, but his obvious love for boats / sailing and his knowledge and craftsmanship are a joy to watch. He and Maya, a talented young lady in her own right, are a great match for each other.

That coaming design is sceaming for a scupper in the bulwark to let the trapped water just flow out. A scupper might minimize the foutain effect Maya is worried about.
@altair7001

I was wondering if it would have been possible to extend the coaming in a straight line, instead of the curved aft end, so it would have met the corner of the transom, right where there is already a scupper to allow the water to get out of there.

Where the cowling curves outwards at the stern end to meet the bulwark: what if you didn't use / attach that curved cowling section at the stern end at all and instead let the cowling run straight and end it, open and not meeting with the bulwark at all? That would prevent any water geyser building up in that tight corner and additionally possibly make a narrow ramped section next to the bulwark to direct water up and over the stern bulwark instead? Even without a ramped section the water would run more freely without the cowling at the stern curving to meet the bulwark. Just a thought. Love watching you guys and respect to the challenges and the craftsmanship and hugs to Maya adjusting to a longer timeframe and workload and dealing with unexpected deadlines for sailing. Warmly Braeden

Dear Sailing Magic Carpet couple. 👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always (video and work). 2) It's not only nice to see that ripped off/cut off materials get reused again. It's also an ingenious way to kind of upcycle the cockpit coamings. Although unfinished, it already looks great. Especially because of the outswinging hooks at the end. I like that it looks a bit like the shape/frame of a lyre/harp. Just like the one Troubadix "plays". I bet that at least Aladino knows who this famous Asterix and Obelix character is. 3) I'm happy to see how well the temporary boat shed works and how well you have settled in. As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular.

Nicely done revisions of the cockpit! And I hope that Maya is on her way to rebuilding her chops with bow and finger technique. After extended breaks from my instruments, the rebuilding process is a weird mix of relief, self-recrimination, and unrealistic expectations. But perhaps she has better character and personal balance than I do. :-) Bon Chance.

Hi Aladino, a word of advise. I own a Midget 20 1971 with a lot of issues due to its age. I have worked quite a few times with epoxy and developed an allergy for Bisfenol A. Largely my own fault because in the mixing stage I did not wear face/breath protection. The mixing stage of both ingredients can be especially dangerous because of the chemical reaction. Now I can not even come near epoxy products anymore. Wich is a huge problem working on boats. I saw you not wearing breath protection mixing the ingredients and during glassing. From my own experience I would urge you to do so because if one develops an allergy, there is no way back. And it's progressive so it gets worse every time. So please be careful with the stuff. It is a miracle compound but can also be nasty stuff. Love the quality of your work and the patience both of you display all the time. Love your channel!

as an alternative you could have let the coamings go aft parallel to the cockpit up to the stern bulwark. That's how traditional English cutters used to deal with water on deck. In the stern bulwark would have been large openings for the water to flow out. It would have both, enhanced the traditional looks of the boat and ensured a dry cockpit.

Maybe later, when you've had some on water experience with it, you can add a low (10-15cm?)combing right at the back of the cockpit to control water washing forward a little. Might even be a useful toehold?

With the open/curved combing, to reduce the possible water slapping/splashing up, could you add a good size scrupper in the bulwark next to this area? Maybe the water would run down the deck and follow the curve and be directed out by the shape thereby reducing the splash. Just a thought.

This episode is so epic, I watched it a second time. Learning from Aladino and listening to your splendit music selection brightens up my sunday evening (cold, wet weather where I can't neither sail nor build on the boat). I'm really curious how the water will run down those coamings. My guess is that the outward bend will keep the water outside and it will eventually geysir outboard (because of the tilt), especially when the boat heels a bit.

@russellsmith8609
@russellsmith8609 4 ай бұрын
Just a thought not a criticism. I was thinking that you might put in a scupper right where the combing joins into the bulwark to relieve the water flowing down the deck over the side. Maybe a horizontal teardrop shape pointing forward would work. Also, right where the combing joins into the cabin, it might look smoother if you could raise the top of the combing so that it flows into the top of the cabin. It would be something that your eye would just sweep over without even noticing the junction. Maybe two or three feet to blend in the lines. Just a thought, cheers.

I see so many KZbin sailing channels making dodgers or hardtops for their boats, simply because all that splashing and wind drive them nuts on longer sails. Have you considered the same? And if so, wouldn't it be an idea to build in the bases/flanges right now?
