Renaldo is Portuguese. From Madeira actually. Great to see how they build these boats 🛶 Istanbul. Been living there for three month in august 1977. That was a memorable trip. There’s an island outside the Bosphorus an half an hours trip by ferry from Caducei. Bucada or something. Just horse carriages. Old wooden houses. Have to go there again someday. Stay Safe. Fair Winds. Roll on 🙏

Was getting so jealous watching this. I first went to Turkey in 2000. Originally planned to stay for 2 weeks. 3 months later, I sadly left swearing I would be back soon. ("Soon" turned out to be 12 years later, but some of the locals still remembered me!) By the time I left, my "Merhaba, nasılsın?" was so good I was getting into trouble because the locals thought I was joking when I told them I wasn't Turkish... and they wouldn't believe my Turkish friend actually was!

I lived on tne south coast of the MarMar for just over 2 years when I was 16 to 18. Magical times.☺ This series has me reminiscing about the fantastic times and some of the really stupid stuff we did. 😂 We lived in a little town named Yoliva, southeast of Istanbul. 7:52 - Bosporus - is the same word as Oxford. We can safely assume that the ancient Greek name was Bosphoros. A ford is a shallow in water where people and cattle can cross. In the Netherlands there's a town called Coevorden (the oe are pronounced oo) and this is the same old word again (cow ford or ox ford), in this case there was a swampy water, not a water stream. So the name of the city, Istanbul, is actually a bastardization of the Greek "eis tèn polis" (to the city). Old cultures would ask a traveler maybe for their name and certainly where they were from, and then, where are you going to? And that's where the name comes from.

The rot starts from the top, which means some very corrupt governments at all levels, Federal, State and City. There is a striking difference between the cities in California for example and many cities around the world - a difference that does not complement California.
