@@rickkwitkoski1976 Well the rules they're following on Millie now are about exactly what they do on Delos for leaving the cockpit. Night time, alone on deck or bad weather. Delos the rule is also never go forward on deck at night w/o another person awake and up top as well. Reason for not wearing it in the cockpit at night on Delos is the difference between the boat layouts. To imply the crew of Delos is unsafe in their lifevest policy is not accurate in the slightest.

Great that you finally have safety gear on. Too many vbloggers do not have them. You should also do some training, how to drop the sails and turn around solo etc. It is not as easy as you might think, especially when it is dark. Strobes in the safety west is exellent addition. All good to you two and thanks for the excellent content - great to get the lead character back she is a lot cooler than the Kraken.....

Khiara: It is most likely that the Beneteau that backed in so easily had a sail drive not a shaft drive as you have on Millennial Falcon. Also, it had a fin keel with a big rudder. Great for backing into a slip. But in a sea way when it is all hitting the fan, you are infinitely better of on Tayana 42 with its long keel and skeg hung rudder. Also shaft drives are less pron to mechanical trouble than sail drives; important for long distance sailors like yourselves.

I wish all the people who post videos on u tube would wear thier life vests or personal flotation device when they are sailing and moving around the boat. By the time you could drop the sail and turn around to motor back to pick someone out of the water takes time someone without a vest doesn't have. Young folks think nothing can happen ,but one slip or large wave and your in the water with a real chance you may not be able to stay alive. I lost a friend who felt he'd never need a life vest because he had boated for so many years and got away with never having a problem ,until he got knocked overboard. By the time he was found it was to late , he was only in the water a short time and he was in superb physical condition and a very good swimmer.

what is the thinking behind rule 5.01.5 c) "when reefed"?

My thinking behind this rule would be that when you take a first reef the wind had increased to a stage that it's no longer 'calm' ie more than 15-18 knots. Others might have some other views though?
