So enjoy watching this beautiful little boat. It seems to me that one of the great benefits is its versatility ... with the relatively shallow twin keel arrangement it is able to navigate into shallow waters as in this vid, yet should be capable of crossing oceans single handed

I'm enjoying cruising with WR but also looking forward to the ocean crossing this summer.

OMG. Right through my cruising ground. Still Pond was my fathers destination when sailing out of the Sassafras. It was a daysail, we would anchor there and they actually had a swing tied to the top of one of the trees, you could swing over the water and drop in.... This as late 70s early 80s.

That looks so nice just to pull on one line and end up with full sail and then turn the boat over to the auto pilot❤

Pretty brave powering thru that entrance. After years of keel boat cruising, I am pretty shy about shoals. You have a great boat for the ICW!

Thanks for the update. We’re having similar weather here in Montreal … warm enough for me to ride my bicycle a couple of times. First outdoor rides of 2024 … feels great to be out in the sunshine and listening to the first redwing blackbirds! With any luck I might get out for an early spring sail next month! Hold fast! ⛵️🇨🇦⚓️🌞

Whaaat? Just looked on Google maps, Farlee creek entrance is about 100' wide which is narrow for a fuckkn paddle board let alone a boat 😬 excellent stuff as usual mate.

What's the rush, there was enough wind to sail, I've sailed in less (maybe that's why my family hate sailing with me, I'll avoid turning on the motor even in glassy conditions, if there's wind I sail 😂) I guess we'll find out next week what the rush was 🤞
@RoversAdventure10 ай бұрын
No real rush but I wanted to get to the Fairlee entrance before low water. There was very little motoring.

What is the construction behind you in the beginning? Are those some kind of covered berths?

@@RoversAdventure sorry, of course. For example 0:04, to the right of you (from the camera), just behind you (on the opposite side of the harbour).

@@sailawayteamYes, they are covered berths. They are in the process of fixing the roof as a snow load destroyed it a few years ago or so I am told.

The covered slips which harken back to the days of the traditional mahogany power boats still exist in a few marinas on the Bay. The earlier paints and varnishes were more susceptible to UV degradation than modern products. Plus the decks, upper structure, window frames, etc were not water tight as we think of boats today. Fresh rain water intrusion can be extra rot inducing. Many of these old larger power pleasure boats were equipped with inboard gasoline engines which lead to a fire hazard associated with the covered slips. If one boat caught fire, an entire finger pier with boats could go up in flames. A wooden yacht containing a hundred gallons, two hundred gallons, or more of gasoline can turn into a genuine inferno. Multiply that by 25 boats or so on a pier under a roof - one goes, they all go. This sort of catastrophe was not unknown. Their heyday was before the boat build and boat wiring standards which we see today.
