This is a perfect case in point about having to be flexible when doing wooden boat restoration, there are always several ways to do things . Its called wicking the bolts which is the proper way to do it . After seeing the Horn timber and the rest of the framing in the boat I am not surprised at all about the transom, I have done this before you just have to take it one step at a time , and do what you have to to float the boat. I am sure you are thrilled to see the keel go in , I wish you the best . Wait till you get into sheer strake and covering boards , there is going to be a great deal of work there, but at least it can be done in the water , take care and soldier on .

@@captaintoyota3171 I don’t think they do know what they’re doing or what they’ve gotten into. It’s pretty clear they’re clueless on both fronts. They seem to know nothing about boats, not even basic terminology of boat anatomy, like stern and bow. And they certainly have no idea about what’s to come next about repairs. They’re just hanging on, along for the ride as the craftsmen tell them what’s to be done. It was clear from the beginning they just bought the boat because it tickled their fancy and had zero idea what all it needed done to it. They even said they hadn’t a clue of what it needed. They still don’t. And money? I hope they have bags of it because they’re not anywhere near making it seaworthy, let alone livable. The theme of every time they remove one board they find ten more rotten is going to continue as they move higher into the boat and into the living quarters. They’re basically having to rebuild the boat. No, I don’t think they had a clue what they were getting into and I am not sure they have fully realized it yet.
