GALE FORCE WINDS | Sailing the Cape of STORMS | The Southernmost Tip of Africa Ep.125

Күн бұрын

The fearsome coast of South Africa delivers a real challenge as we attempt to sail round Africa's southernmost tip and back into the Atlantic Ocean. The Cape of Good Hope is also known as the CAPE of STORMS and it lived up to that name, giving us big waves and gale force winds. Blasting along under storm jib alone we were in awe as we passed this major milestone on our voyage around the world and sailed into one of the most spectacular destinations we have visited.
We have been sailing around the world for 6 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

Yip, good fun sailing off the southern tip of Africa, they say if you can sail here you can sail anywhere, say hi to Craig, Jesse, Richard, and all my friends at HBYC, awesome club and marina, I spent an amazing 2 + months there after buying my steel Stadt 34' last year. With regards Aghulas and Cape point, I've had both the best and worst of it, blew a head gasket and Genoa off rocky bank at 2 am in 35 knots and had to get a tow into Simon's town, then 2 weeks later rounded Aghulas at 1 am in 35 Kn true with a double reeded main, 4 m breaking seas doing 17.7 Kn SOG en route back to PE, it's not for the faint of heart, for sure, I've left royal Cape in .3 Kn and got into Hout bay in 48 true, that's 13 odd nm, done that trip around Aghulas a few times and it's never been easy, this is why boats like Cape 28's Miuras and L34 and L36's are so highly regarded, along with steel boats like the Dix Hout bay 33 and my boat, chined steel VDS 34'. It's most certainly not an easy coast to sail, you had it easy, wait till winter!!!

The video of big seas and fast winds are extraordinary!!! 40 knot plus winds, “enjoyable, most fun yet, not an easy passage,” with giddy laughter. This is a tremendous effort…. You make me laugh with you. Fine sailing, fine sailing, good on you! I know you are so happy. I hope you don’t mind if I feel some pangs of sadness. You know why. I have grown so fond of you, your excellent team sailing. WHAT A WONDERFUL JOURNEY!!!
