Love your filming and production style. Regarding the close calls in this episode and the stress that brings…Your AIS is a great help seeing traffic around you, are you also transmitting your MMSI so they know where you are, and are you reaching out to them by VHF to ask what their intentions are regarding course and proximity? Knowing they see you, that you each know the number of people on board, and an agreed route and closes point of approach takes a lot of stress out of passages like this, especially at night. If they had 5 on board doing 2 or 3 hour shifts all night, they might not have even thought that 1 mile was a little close, but for you guys it’s all hands on deck when the alarm goes off. Great idea to use the VHF. Late last year, we had a great conversation with Disney Magic about their intentions. They said they had been watching us and already changed course. As soon as we were off VHF, they changed course further to give us more room. As a commercial vessel, they were stand-on. But they chose to give way. Communications makes all the difference.

Steph, I know I say it constantly but your culinary prowess is something else!!!! That looked so darn good. Travis appeared to have high marks for it too hahaha. When I started watching these videos people were saying get used to eating rice and beans LOL, I Have yet to see a meal not fit for a restaurant come out of that galley. How is the sail tape holding up on Big Bird? looked ok to me. That Mahi was a nice one for sure and the subsequent meal....well you know haha. M&K

Steph, we think you should write a Sailing Cookbook, everything looks so delicious. Lets see if we have General Tso Sauce: Rice Vinegar, soy & hoisin sauce, chk broth, white sugar, brown sugar, minced ginger, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, cornstarch. Named after a Chinese leader from the Qing dynasty Zuo Zongtang whose Romanized name is Tso Tsungchug. Chef Peng invented the dish & served in Twain. From this original recipe, Chinese immigrants in the US developed the present day recipe in 1970. Have a safe and fun filled crossing!

11:33 do you guys have back up water primarily for hydration? Pretty dangerous being out in the middle of the blue pond without water? Distant Shores always carry a number of 2 liter water bottles on passage. Your generator or water maker could fail.

I think this is my first viewing of Gibsea. It was some good content and well presented. But way too many boats for an ocean crossing. Try the Pacific. Crossing from French Polynesia to Panama, we saw 3 boats in over 4,000 NM. PS. Some of my friends say that a Hunter 42 cannot cross oceans. I'm smiling at the thought of you proving them wrong.
