At the end of the video I show you my DIY fuel polishing set up to pre clean the notoriously dirty diesel in Indonesia.

James, just an old man commenting on your polishing filter if I may? On our goods vehicles and tractors the flow over the water trap is very slow. On a heavy goods vehicle it would work at about 5 gallons per hour and would involve 2 filters. On tractors the flow would be less?? As you probably know the water will need gravity to sink into the trap. I wondered if perhaps your pump was too big in capacity to allow any water time to settle into the sediment bowl? Again, just an old man fan Finking out loud🙃🙃🙃

Yes I know the water won’t be separated probably at that speed, it’s mostly for junk in the fuel, I have the primary one on the engine that does most of the water separation

I made a comparable setup this summer in Camaret Sur Mer in France to get rid of a lot of sediment in the diesel tank of a vessel we were supposed to cross the Bay of Biscay with, since it clogged up the tank outlet and stop it right there instead of being caught in the filters. There were several other reasons why we had to improvise that, there was no inspection hatch in the tank, and the outlet of the tank was hard against the hull, the tank sagged, so I sort of vacuumed the tank and caught the shavings in the filters I brought. For as far as I was there it got rid of the problem! Take care!

I really enjoy you having a sailing partner with similar vibes. The solo videos were awesome, also, but having two people is more enjoyable. And having two bodies is better that one! Bonding the fuel tank inshores A good ground, For the fuel pump which may only have one wire a positive. As the outer shell of the pump will be negative connected to the tank.

Buy DEX wherever you can, it's much lower in sulfur and cetane. In many places you won't find DEX so dexlite may be your only choice. But be careful, a slightly murky colour may mean it's been cut with biodiesel. Biodiesel holds water in suspension so your system won't remove it. Be sure to use a good quality marine diesel conditioner and don't leave the fuel sitting around. Good luck.

Good idea...having it on your main intake is a necessity too. Nb...water introduces diesel bug,so eliminating it makes life simpler all round

Running diesel fuel through a high-speed pump can create turbulence, which may lead to the emulsification of small amounts of water in the fuel. Emulsification occurs when water droplets become suspended in the diesel, creating a mixture that can be more difficult to separate. This may hinder the effectiveness of a water separator, as the separator is designed to remove free water from the fuel rather than emulsified water. Best method is to use gravity by putting one can higher on the boat and siphoning to a lower can. This solves the issue of emulsification and the need to transfer manually to a tank with a large opening for the pump. It’s slower, however you can do multiple tanks at the same time speeding things up.

Aww a short one, I guess Rhondas (NZ?) words Standart & Staple have very diff meanings, for us- they mean just So So & basic needs - to Them them Greatness. I Loved the interior woodwork of the Restaurant & sinks right in there, another normal /strange to us. I don’t add any additives, I use to add biocide but have since heard bad things about it and stopped

@@SailorJames Thanks for the reply. I felt the same way for a long time myself until just a few years ago. Thats when I ran across Lake Speed Jr. ( The Motor Oil Geek Chanel on YT) He is a real straight up guy and his proof is in the data! His videos have made a huge believer out of me in what Oil and fuel additive to use in my 5.9 Cummins.. I only use 15-40 t6 Rotella oil and Opti Lube XPD fuel additive. Isn’t Waiktobi(?) a big tourist area? Specifically scuba divers. I know my parents took a dive vacation there. I couldn’t tell you exactly where I just know it was Wakitobi. Maybe why certain parts are so much cleaner
