Maero is an example of how ruthless the protagonist was in SR2 compared to the other games. Give the protagonist a terrible deal? He'll burn your face with nuclear waste. Get revenge on him by brutally killing a friend? Well the boss will literally trick you into running over your girlfriend. If the boss was this ruthless in SR3 then characters like Matt Miller wouldn't be alive.

I thought it was great too, but I think the Ronin bosses take the cake for me due to how personal the graveyard scene with Shogo and Gat is and the final battle on the burning boat was epic although a bit less personal. The Samedi missions on the other hand were less damatic and serious but more funny and epic, like the mission where you jump out of the limo and you have to save Shaundi when you're stoned. Not to mention the final mission. This game was just too damn good. I've got a playthrough of it going on right now, and in terms of story, game world, content, customization, replayability and everything, I've got to say it's still to date the best open-world gang game. If only the PC port wasn't so badly optimized, that's my only complaint.

Man this story in this game was fucking incredible, I remember how even though Carlos wasn't in the game for too long I was so upset, it made me focus more on the brotherhood and take them out before any other gang. Then in Saints Row The Third I remember being just confused when Gat died. They had just killed him off for no reason and on the second mission. I really liked Gat but I almost didn't care when he died because they just did it so wrong.

That whole zinyak thing was just a huge sloppy retcon. Johnny did die. He was killed on the plane. Thats what Volition had in mind and that's why Philipe says the body of mister gat will serve as a warning AND why you get him as a zombie homie at the end of SR3. SR4 was supposed to continue with the Trouble With Clones DLC but was scrapped for the SR4 we got and Gat was just retconned right back. SR is my favorite franchise but BOY have they fucked up pretty hard in some aspects.

Well, there is a little bit more to him than that, but yeah, he had very little screen time compared to the other characters in the game (and doesn't have the previous game appearance like Aisha), and his primary scenes are basically the prologue and his gruesome death. I wish that they had perhaps made his death [and Jessica's by extension] happen a little bit later down the road, if not keep him alive [but Jessica would still surely die at some point]. It's interesting to imagine what he would have added to the later game.

What's sad is that Maero was the one gang boss that actually started off with a good idea. Negotiate with one of the most DANGEROUS members of the Saints. After all, the player was one of, if not the, biggest actors to bring down three different gangs. Maero however, had too much confidence and pride in himself and gave the Saints a shit deal, effectively insulting one of the most dangerous people in Stillwater and dismissing them because they spent a couple years in a coma. And once Carlos dies, the player chooses to remind Maero WHY they are considered to be one of the most dangerous people in Stillwater.

Handsome Kiddo From the gameplay, you did own the territories. But from the stories point of view, you didn't at the moment since this whole game is about rising to the top again. Remember, this isn't the type of game that requires you to attack a certain gang and then move up to the stronger gangs. You're free to attack any gang in no specific order from the beginning of the game. So no matter which gang you attack first, the cutscenes are already predetermined that you own nothing. So, based on the story, The Brotherhoods deal made sense.

You know, all things concidered Maero was pretty chill and reasonable by Saints Row gang leader standards. He made the saints a totally fair deal, since The Brotherhood controlled a third of the city and The Saints had pretty much nothing left except for a reputation. 80-20 is damn great by those standards. The saints attacked first, and killing Carlos was retaliation for that. It's only after The Saints made his life hell that he began getting increasingly cruel and aggressive. Honestly, he was pretty much in the right for the entire gang war. His only mistake was underestimating how inhumanly overpowered The Boss, Gat, Shaundi and Pierce's gang truly is

Saints Row, I just love it! Those songs in Saints Row 2 just make me think what the Saints have been through! :/ I hope they will return to the gangster theme, I loved that theme, you like.. controlled an army/gang! I would continue the story like this: The Saints get sucked into a portal to a city like Steelport, since Zinjay said that time-traveling can restore it! They get sucked, and land on gangster-city, with new clothes, companies, gangs, cars etc. You still have Shaundi and Kinzie etc. You will need to start a gang, by doing missions and recruiting people, buying companies and stuff. It's also a crazy over-the-top game with nast and funny stuff! You will need to do missions to conquer a hood like in Saints Row 2, not the 3-4 style. You can customize cars, your gang, you can choose you're gang clothes too, not the colour though. Isn't it fun? I mean, people like the gang-theme, tell me if you like mine! Gonna send this to Volition! ;)

It seemed the Boss didn’t want to kill Carlos after seeing him suffer from all of the injuries being dragged by the Brotherhood but he had to finish him off so he doesn’t have to endure anymore pain. Boss kidnapping Jessica and stuffing her in the trunk of her own car and having her get crushed by Maero’s monster truck made it a lot more awesome and she had it coming.

Honestly though, this is why I strongly believe the Brotherhood 1st mission should definitely be done before you eliminate (or get very close to, like 1-2 missions before the complete takeover) at least one or even two of the gangs, otherwise Maero sounds extremely stupid and way too out of the loop. I'll dismiss 0:21, since it's them basically just screwing around, but the offer cutscene would be a total clown fiesta. "20-80." "... You're probably drunk as shit and high as fuck, you can't possibly be serious right now. The Saints have already climbed out of the deepest shitholes of this city after laying dormant for years and managed to take over large amounts of turf and secure drug business completely by wiping out 2 other rivals. One had a wackass Voodoo magic or something freak that needed overkill methods in order to finally put him to sleep, the other was a gangsta-yakuza bunch that packed some nice firepower thanks to the their connections with the Big Papa of this city, the fucking Ultor, and even had their boogeyman come here from the other damn country just to tango with us. Both of them were extremely deadly and disciplined and were a major pain in the asshole, we suffered many casualties, and 2 of my lieutenants were at death's door, but we've managed to pull through, and I've personally smoked every one of their big shots and bosses. Your "cool" rides and nice tattoos do a rather shitty job at both impressing and intimidating me. There's no universe where I'd accept this joke of a deal after everything we've been put through." 2 reasons. 1) Most of the time, people are blinded by nostalgia and believe a game to have been better back then compared to now. (Not the case with SR2 tho, that game is always my favorite in the franchise) 2) You don't feel the same way you used to playing video games now compared to before. For nost of us, When we played video games, we didn't have a lot of Bills, or worries, or a lot of anything going on with life to get in the way. The moment you went from playing because you had nothing but time, to playing with the little time you had, the feeling left. Games didn’t really get better or worse with time, we just got older.

AnonymousAffection the character model doesn't it because of graphical limitations of the time, but being dragged by a vehicle moving over 50 mph would completely flay your flesh, shred your outer muscles and likely break bones such that they'd puncture a few imternal organs. There's a reason the medieval execution method of being dragged by scared horse was so scary, now just imagine that, but at double the speed. You're not living through that, Boss gave him a mercy killing :/
