The only time Popeye has been canonically injured was when he lost his eye in the comic strip(a trait that may or may not be carried over to other media as he will sometimes open that squinted eye). He lost it on purpose, feeling he had done something so wrong he had to be punished & let his opponent knock it out of his head. In that regard Popeye can only be hurt if he allows it.

I'd think Popeye at least *knows* what physics are but they just don't apply to him even in other dimensions. Popeye's advantage is that, existing from pen-n-ink physics, it would take something like Judge Doom's (Who Framed Roger Rabbit?) barrel of Dip. Other than that as a potentially effective attack, Popeye is a Reality Bender of the highest caliber, right up there with The Mask or Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet.

For the Saitama fans Read this...Respectfully Can saitama steal and eat his spinach?:- 1)It is actually kind of gatekept to Popeye, the reason to this is that any spinach can Popeye takes can work on him, he can paint it, wave it, or recieve it from the real audience watching the show, if it wasn't gatekept, it should've worked with pretty much everyone and even the audience, but it doesn't, because it's a normal can, why then it only works with Popeye (and a few other toons in his show for that matter)? Because it is gatekept. 2)Even if it wasn't gatekept, Saitama wouldn't know of the spinach beforehand, there is no prep time, you know. 3)Even if he did have prep time and he takes it, number 1 still holds up because it doesn't work on him. 4)Even if I was wrong on number 1 and 3, Popeye has infinite supplies of spinach because he can always get it whenever and anywhere and it's really impossible to just stop the process from him eating it, he will eat it if he summons it, it's an unskipable ad, by that I'm concluding that Popeye is immortal, and saitama only had 1 can (that is if he can hypothetically even know beforehand, and hypothetically manage to stop the impossible process of it, and hypothetically manage to make it work even though it's gate kept), also...spinach can effects don't wear off untill a very long unspecified amount of time, that time is decided once it's okay to make it wear off now. Can Saitama kill him, does he even have the tools for it?:- 1)Reversing time? He forgot that technique, and Popeye had his abilities since he was born anyways. 2)Punching really hard? Popeye just regenerates back with spinach that is if he even manages to kill him once. How can Popeye kill saitama?:- Even if Saitama was stronger, he still loses..because of his hax tools, here's a *very* few examples. 1)Since that Popeye can't die, would it make a draw? No...one of his abilities are transmuting things to whatever, bypassing your strength and then you turn into a funny object, saitama has no defenses against this, and guess what, he can do this even without spinach, this literally means that popeye can end him "in one punch" even without spinach, it's crazy how one sided this fight is but it may not be that obvious for some people. 2)Popeye's an overall gag/pure toon character, generally agreed that they basically beat anyone and anything as long as it's funny even if you're supposed to lose and have no way in beating someone, scaling/debating them is in itself a low-ball, a downplay, they're always just a greater number above their opponent even if the opponent's number was infinity, but I won't stretch this one much since not many people would buy it (but it's actually 100% true, just won't persuade it for anyone, because he doesn't even need his gag to beat him). 3)One of my favourite underrated hax tools of his is that he can simply just exit the animation, punch the animator, and now Saitama is in a reality/animation where Popeye's in control, delete him from existence is possible buffing himself is possible, controling Saitama's movements is possible, nerfing Saitama is possible, list goes into imaginations. Is Spinach cheating?:- 1)It's part of his arsenal, and that's what the whole show is about, as stated in the first points of this essay. 2)This is exactly like saying Saitama's exponential growth is cheating, which isn't. 3)They're both made as characters who don't make sense how they got that sort of power, saitama did with a horrible training and look where he got, and popeye does the stupidest things once he gets the spinach cans locked in, I wouldn't say that it's "cheating" if they both have their power with no question or logic behind it. Is Saitama a gag? 1)No, he's a parody character, a gag wouldn't have that many serious emotions in a fight, besides, he literally has a move named "serious punch", I don't know just how people expect a punch named this be a gag, at all. 2)He could not one punch everything in his show, "he was holding back" that doesn't matter, because he didn't in the CS fight. 3)Even if he hypothetically was a gag, I don't think anyone has rights in their mind to say that a brand, fresh, new gag, that's not even a cartoon, could do a better job in gag power than an extremely old school character that comes from cartoons. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate on Saitama or anything, I actually love One Punch Man, but what has to be said has to be said, Saitama is not as strong as you think, but this doesn't disregard his anime/manga from being good, ofcourse, it's still awesome, ans loving Saitama way more than Popeye is also really understandable. Hopefully this comment could get noticed enough, I've spent about 30+ minutes making this.

Gag characters being generally agreed on to defeat anyone as long as it's funny is just a leap in logic that many people make to simplify their reasoning for a conclusion. In actuality, a "gag character" is just very similar to or outright synonymous with ideas like a "joke character", a "funny character", an "amusing character", and a "comic relief character", which are nothing more than the ideas that a character is somehow humorous. Saitama, in fact, can be categorized this way too, because him being a parody is meant to be funny. Saitama and Popeye being funny doesn't necessarily mean anything in terms of their strength, because there's zero good reason to believe that all of fiction bends to the whims of a specific genre and sense of humor, and not all gag characters are funny for the same reasons. Believing otherwise is an assertion. Toon force is just a means to an end, like how reality warping can be an alternative means. Popeye so happens to have means to a better end than Saitama. Saitama's means being supernatural willpower rather than toon force has nothing to do with why he wouldn't win against Popeye. Saitama wouldn't win because the end that his supernatural willpower leads him to is lesser than that of Popeye's. It's also because Popeye can come back from nothing, whereas Saitama doesn't have a magical way to attack nothing. I could make a list of characters who are vulnerable to losing yet are primarily humorous. I'll describe a few examples. Jigglypuff in the Super Smash Bros. video game series is a joke character, because of Rest being deceptively and illogically powerful for no serious reason, yet any of the other characters can still defeat her. Realistic human level characters that lack toon force, such as plenty of characters that the actor Kevin Hart has played as, are comic relief characters for reasons unrelated to their strength, so assuming that they'd defeat anyone if it's funny is baseless. Characters from the Battle for Dream Island cartoon series pull some wacky strong feats occasionally, such as physically relocating the Sun just for a competition, yet death and resurrection has a lot of logical consistency in that series. Saitama and Popeye are funny because of what they actually do, and like any character, we shouldn't assume that they would defeat anyone, including characters that have capabilities beyond what they have actual proof of being capable of, just because of the unfounded notion that they'd win against anyone because of humor. It's true that some gag characters, such as Tweety Bird, can have the context of always winning within reason or having supernatural luck, but the idea that gags = omnipotence is just unskillful fiction analysis. There is also no such thing as "pure" toon force. There is no spectrum from purity to corruption. Toon force is the superpower of defying science for entertainment purposes, and some characters can do it better than others, like how universal reality warping is inferior to multiversal reality warping. A toon force user that can come back from getting crushed by an anvil without dying is inferior to a toon force user that can conveniently come back from dying in general. Depending on the character, toon force might provide no such resistances, because not all toon force users have exaggerated survivability. This has nothing to do with purity of the means they use to reach an end. The real life age and the medium of the fiction that a character is in doesn't necessarily have a correlation to their power, following the aforementioned logic in this message. If a cartoon character from years ago can create a planet with glue and there isn't proof that they could do better, then someone in modern Japan animating a character destroying a multiverse sized enemy or something like that has no reason to be weaker. Saitama just has no proof of being able to put down Popeye for good, whereas Popeye has ways to end Saitama and even circumvent science in ways that Saitama wouldn't expect. Saitama being a relatively modern anime instead of a classic cartoon isn't relevant in the slightest to why he wouldn't defeat Popeye. Otherwise, your analysis is mostly accurate. Good job. Death Battle explained most of this already though, so I don't think people are going to be convinced by you if they already disagreed with the video.

​​@@justjames4 Good analysis, however I don't have the energy to waste another half an hour or something to write an essay of how I view toon force and why I think it's the top thing or why it matters, and you misunderstood my phrasing of a few things like me saying "Popeye is from cartoon so he beats him", I did not mean nor say that, I said that by their logic if Saitama is even a gag then Popeye would be a better one, no one definitley has their rights to say Saitama who is new would be more experienced and do better than Popeye who is old, so I'll just respectfully say you were semi right, you said some things that are completely right and other stuff that are debatable being not the definition of what toon force is, but yeah no energy for other essays hah And thanks, yes I know this was some of what deathbattle said, and I had a bit more to say, but there are a lot and I mean a LOT of people who have watched the full analysis and still make these arguments that I countered, so I included it anyway, and some of my analysis wasn't stretched in deathbattle, so it slipped in with the rest making it unclear, and I think I had more to say but this was enough to make things clear

This still works even after the shenanigans with Garo. We saw how Saitama's strength grows infinitely when he meets a challenge (due to breaking his limited). However, so had Garo's, Saitama beat him because he'd already raised his more than Garo's so he was starting at a much higher level. Popeye started the fight already effectively infinite. God turned the universe off and Popeye said no lol. Saitama would have canonically gotten many orders of magnitude stronger during that fight, but it doesn't really matter against Popeye. I guess maybe if the fight had gone on long enough with popeye continually adjusting himself to be just at Saitama's peak, then maybe Saitama could have eventually caught up.

For those who are wondering why Popeye got so annoyed, look closely at the price tag, it's a reference to Saitama being stingy with money. The price is 15.00 Yen, and 1 Yen is actually less than 1 Cent, so at that price you could buy 7 can's for 1 lousy American Dollar. If you could sustain yourself on nothing but spinach, you could eat 2 can's per day for less than 10 Dollar's per month.

It is not recommended to eat 2 cans per day though. Spinach is low in calories and only high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Too much of it can cause bloating and kidney problems. A single can would be three cups of raw spinach and reasonable to be eaten every other day. 2 cups per day is typical daily allowance. Popeye seems to keep a can only for daily emergencies because he is 1) already very strong without it 2) he knows it isn't necessary to eat more than that.

Ah, man. That was excellent. Definitely got some laughs out of me in the preamble. I enjoyed the crash course on Popeye lore. The fight itself was awesome, fun, and funny! Overall, just plain entertaining. And in the end, Saitama got that fight he wanted. Good for him. Salutations, Popeye! You've still got it strengths, entertainment, and spinach propaganda. Great work, team. I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
