Interesting info. now I know where to start on a twin.

2:52 Mine does that too. It spools up pretty slowly. I've always chalked it up to having such small cylinders that the torque isn't as high as a single of that displacement would be. I also ran a 14-6, Omega 15% fuel. Flew mine a couple times like that, even, ran fine in the air no growley bearing noises.

I've got one of these and it's a gem. Never opened mine up though.

To close this out, it appears that the timing was off by one tooth. After reading the comments and consulting with my friend Harvey, I gently pushed the timing cam shaft out while the engine was fully assembled. The alignment mark on the top gear #1 in manual, is between teeth and not ON a tooth. After closer inspection, with my magnifier on, I could see that the image I posted from the video I had the Tooth above the mark aligned with the mark on the case. This made it look like the timing mark on the cam shaft was in the correct position but in reality it was one tooth off. The timing dot on the cam shaft was DOWN one tooth from the proper position. This still does not explain WHY there are two dots on the case for the timing when the manual shows and speaks of only ONE. A better questions is HOW this got to be mistimed. Seeing as the cover for the cam shaft bearing was dinged from a screwdriver when I got it; it seems to imply that the previous owner did exactly what I did. Pushed the timing shaft out and retimed the engine, improperly. The final question would be WHY? The engine is reassembled and hopefully I will get this back onto the upright and mounted again very soon for another run video. Thanks to all that commented and assisted.

7:30 Scratch that, timing's even easier to do. Just pop that idler gear out, rotate the cam and crank to where they should be, pop the idler gear back in, and you're done. Don't even need to pop a rocker box off!

Yes I just did this. I was really concerned that a tappet would drop into the case doing this but luckily one did not. At first I didn't think I could just press the timing shaft back down. It appears that the timing was off by one tooth. Thank you for your comments and assistance.

@@dmrcflyr2 Should do that to mine, then, because mine does the same exact lazy transition coupled with an overall malaise yours does. Lookin forward to seeing yours run after retiming!

If you do yours please note to see if the case has two dots as mine does. Use a magnifier, unless you have perfect eyes to check the actual timing first. I was fooled easily.

@@dmrcflyr2 I'll be sure to check back if I remember haha. Almost wonder if itt'l help alleviate the tendency of mine to drop a cylinder at idle, too.

@@TestECull Yours drops a cylinder too? Always the same one? Which side? I don't think I ever experienced that yet with the 60T or the 90TS

5:33 Nah. You can sneak the pushrods out of it without taking anything major apart. Just manually open a valve and wriggle the engine until the pushrod jumps out of its pockets. Once all four pushrods are out, roll it over a couple times and the tappets should just stick in the tops of their bores since there'd be nothing pushing them back anymore. Voila, now the cam can be removed and retimed without major disassembly.

you dont have to do all that to retime the motor. you dont need to go any further than what dave did. all you need to do is remove the idler gear, between the cam and crank and you can reposition the cam to the correct setting. if you want to rotate the cam, turn the crank,90degrees, either side of TDC to avoid piston to valve contact. set timing and reinstall the idler gear.

Shit, I didn't remove the idler gear either. I thought about it but it didn't simply pull out with my fingers. I figured oil and suction might be holding it in place. How would you pull it out Harvey? soft nose pliers?

@@dmrcflyr2 i used a pair of heavy duty angled, tweezers, dont member where i got them. but i removed it. wasnt bad to pull.

i forgot to mention that they were pointed tweezers.

@@harveynewman4333 Ye I noticed that idler gear later in the video. Super easy to set cam timing on an engine like this!
