when i was in animation industry, holding your breath was something that my mentor taught me when i was assigned to clean-up drawings. it definitely helps me steady my hand, & even when i'm just doodling, the habit formed without me noticing. it reminded me of when i do archery where i hold my breath to laser my focus on the target as i draw my bow, until i release the arrow. making that connection helped me understand the concept better & apply it easier to my drawing habits 😊

I didn’t even notice I was holding my breath when I clean up my drawings but that’s a cool information I didn’t know it was needed
In the 90s, I bought over 200 books with beautiful illustrations and collected beautiful boxes and packages, now I have 34 folders on my computer with references. I did not think to apply the experience of shooting to drawing lines.
I never noticed until I watched this video, but instead of holding my breath to draw lines, I breath out slow and long for the duration of the one line. I'm going to be so hyper-aware of this now LOL

It's nice to hear that even professionals also have these "quirks"

amazing sensei, to notice something soo subtle, behavior you do everyday but maybe not everyone noticing it conciously. its really a good thing to analyze other and learning from their bad/good habbits to improve yourself. maybe its time to train myself to become some stalker kind.. hahaha
I redraw my art over and over to the point I give up on it XD Thank you for the video! I feel more comfortable since professionals experience the same problems

It never sat right with me when I was pushed to "show everyone the process, because drawing is a journey people love to observe". My process is my own private workspace, only the end result is for the world to see, and I'll present it when I'm confident that it demonstrates the best of my abilities. Refreshing to hear that it comes from pride and not from some negative mental health aspects. Thank you for sharing such incredibly valuable insights to the lives of professional artists!
Yap been holding my breath with every stroke I draw since I was a kid. I just notice it a few decades latter cause I had classmate who was always complaining about my irregular breathing whenever I was drawing. Now if only I was a good artists this would be a great story.
