I used to write a lot of poetry as a kid whenever I felt bad. Later it turned into more letter-like writing, either directed to myself or the person that happened to hurt me that time. Now I sometimes write music to deal with the thoughts I can't put into words. Writing, in any shape or form, has helped me process my emotions so much through the years. It's one of the first things I tell people who are looking for solutions when something is nagging at their mind. Write it down, and feel the weight drop off your shoulders.

Writing is a magical alchemical act. It is important to understand that there are people in the world who believe that the only way to lift themselves up is to bring someone else down, and they do it to give their shame to another person. We must not accept their shame as our own.

I have the greatest respect for this young lady. She said it, how it is. I wish I could shake your hand! There are so many people suffering, so many people who feel invisible because other people ignore them, ignore their pain. Just sayin I‘m no exception. I‘ve been on both sides. The fear of standing up for someone else‘s rights, is paralysing. Even for your own rights, it‘s never easy. You sometimes think, ahhh just don‘t take things so personal, they didn‘t mean it that way. But they did, and they thrive on your pain. And when someone else is being bullied, onlookers are just glad it‘s not them. The point is: We all have only one life to live. So how can any human being waste even 1 second on hate crimes? When love, respect & empathy are so much more powerful! Now I‘m going to listen again to this awesome talk.

I could not agree more! I have a BFA in creative writing, and beside all the technical training, it is still one of the most cathartic things to turn to when in a moment of tension. Even more fictional writing can help open up the channels to let you process things you’ve experienced if writing directly from your own perspective is too close, too intimate for comfort.

Writing is therapeutic. It gives you the place and time to express your deepest thoughts, often those which we suppress and find it hard to articulate. Cdl George Pell wrote while in prison for a heinous crime he did not commit. It certainly is a way to communicate with your soul and find healing

Writing is like religion, biblical, prophetic, and eternal, it truly shows how much we actually are religious, whether we know it or not. Creative writing is beautiful and even if no one does it on a conventional basis of creating stories, at the very least, write your feelings down, baptize yourself, expel those demons. Also, as a black man myself, I know that feeling all too well, speaking up for yourself in the work place, just to have no one stand up for you, no one takes you seriously, and you're forced to go along with it, if you complain, it's your fault. It's a sick world we live in, but we're still trying.

I thought about taking a creative writing class in college but not sure if it will be hard. I struggle to write papers that are over 4 or 5 pages. I do enjoy writing about topics that I enjoy or interests me. My government teacher had us do a 10 page research paper for a major grade. If we failed the paper, we pretty much was going to fail the class regardless of your test grades. Needless to say I couldn't even finish 10 pages. If my government teacher had us write a 10 page paper, imagine how Long the papers are in creative writing class.

You are an intelligent and kind young woman. Yet you still have much to learn about setting boundaries with other people regardless of their "position" and if you ever are made to feel uncomfortable sexually by anyone, you do not owe that person or persons anything other than to assert your right to be left alone. I know it's shocking but the sooner you realize that behavior is just plain disgusting and inexcusable you will not be afraid to tell them to F off! And then get away to safety! Remember, for women being rude is not something you normally do. However, it's better to err on the side of caution and say "GO AWAY! DON'T TOUCH ME! I'M CALLING 911!" and end up a little embarrassed if nothing happens but most times those guys are up to no good so be loud, rude, draw the attention of others so you don't end up a victim.

This is why social media’s aggressive censorship is dangerous and harmful because they have given themselves the right to determine which memories/feelings/beliefs are “factual” or “authoritative sources” or worthwhile of being discoverable in search results. Creative expressions, personal memories, and personal feelings/reactions will become less prevalent on social media, silencing many people and their truths and their attempts to cope, share, educate, and bear witness. I hope they will correct course before taking away the ways people share to not feel isolated and alone.
