Former U.S. congressman Patrick Kennedy spoke about his decades-long struggle with bipolar disorder and depression as part of the recent Saks Institute for Mental Health Law, Policy, and Ethics Lecture at USC Gould. Kennedy was joined by Prof. Elyn Saks, USC law student Evan Langinger and psychiatry resident Michelle Wu, all of whom discussed how they managed mental illness through their university years.

In the book First Rate Madness : Uncovering the Link Between Mental Illness and Leadership it's suggested that Martin Luther King suffered from depression , and President John F. Kennedy suffered from hyerthymia , which is on the bipolar spectrum . It's also suggested that the Kennedy Family Members who did young also suffered from hyerthymia . There may be no Kennedy Curse , it could just be untreated mental illness .
