Clark Culver - genius? Masterpiece? No way lol. It’s ok but the pacing is atrocious, the main characters have shallow relationships (the mentors Kakashi and Jiraiya are cool - Orochimaru and Tsunade not so much), the large cast which seemed interesting in Naruto become irrelevant in Shippuden (Lee, Neji, Shikamaru, Gaara, Sai, etc.), power scaling issues leads to battles becoming more flash than substance especially after Pain arc leading to the terrible Great Ninja war (Madara was a cool flex). Shippuden seemed promising at first but loses it’s best attributes, large cast of cool characters and tactical battles, whilst givong you painfully bad pacing, contradicting the theme of hard work beating talent, and other issues.

Actually Masashi Kishimoto the writer of Naruto is inspired by Hunter x Hunter. That's how it goes with Kurapika who lost his clan who got the unique red eyes and he seeks for revenge that's how Sasuke's story too. Also the phantom troupe they are kinda like the Akatsuki.
