I remember when this game got announced and fans went nuts. I then later heard that Japanese fans hated the game. After playing it for myself, I agree with the Japanese fans sentiment. I love the game's presentation but, that's about it. Story, most of the cast and the gameplay felt poorly thought out and shallow. I've seen some say they would have preferred that they ported the previous entries to new platforms instead.

@@Gordoniankid They hated SW PS4 becouse they throwed bunch of old cast (except Sumire) to the trash, and changed gameplay from Valkyria Chronicles combat system to super simple musou just like they did with Valkyria Revolution. SEGA is just so dumb sometimes, they repeat same mistakes from past.

SEGA really should remaster and localize old (better) SW 1-5. Sakura Wars got 25th Anniversary in september 2021, this is ideal moment for annoucement those games in West.

I bought it back in december and it got me really hooked for the introduction. I've left it aside because there were some games I had already started before waiting to be finished, but I'm around chapter 5 and the game's been interesting so far. The Koi Koi minigame is addictive and I think I'll be playing the game tonight just for that specific minigame lol. For anyone interesting keep an eye for amazon deals as this game usually is on sale there for half retail price every 1-2 months.

Great review. I played it when it came out last year. I liked it but there is room for a lot of improvement. Upgrade/leveling system for the mechs, an english dub, more variety in combat and enviroments. I honestly wouldnt mind a persona 5 royal version of this with improvements, i think it could sell better and obviously release it on everything.

I am just about to make my entry into this series and recently picked up the Wii game (I'm looking for older RPGs I can make texture packs for) . Will hopefully get to this one too.

So long my love is very expensive. I got my copy for like 60$ a year ago. Goes for around a 100$ on wii now, I think ps2 is more expensive tho as it released very late in the ps2 lifespan

Fun fact: first two Sakura Wars games had 50 milion $ budget (pretty amazing for Dating Sim, right ?), and those games still are second most expensive SEGA games (after Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon Saga) :D Even funnier fact: those games are from 1996 and 1998 !!! Opening animation for SW3 costed 3 mln $ !!!

Understandable, it's definitely the weakest aspect of this game. The old combat system for this series was way better

The battle gameplay looks pretty fun. Albeit it's simple, it's very stylish and I like that. Sucks it's only on PS4, though.

And total zero marketing :) They really should wait for Summer but SEGA have in May financial report unfourtunately. SEGA released game with P5 Royal, RE 3 Remake and FF VII Remake, wtf they are thinking ?
