He also struggles with children been around him , as he got abused as a child. When ever one arrives into his life he either, kills them or does something to them. Every experience he had done to him he did it to them. Cooked alive, hung on hooks the lot. A perfect example is when he stabs himself when he puts someone in the oven, which then goes on to sing the song red water. That would of been a coping mechanism to take awsy the pain. Lastly the meeting of his 3 personalities formed from been alone in pain and going through hell. This is just a quick write up, there is alot more going on.

The cool thing about Salad Fingers is that he actually appears to be polite and kind-hearted - his speech is always very well-mannered, and he doesn't seem to have any malicious intentions at all (he is obviously psychotic, but he isn't actually evil). @sheppin_2 жыл бұрын
@@AlliwantisAIDSHelpImKidnapped I actually agree in some ways. It sure does become more technical, with better angles, more nuances in the movement, and overall smoother animation with better composition, but it doesn't exactly serve the series itself any. It looks cool, but doesn't add anything as far as the disturbing atmosphere and the story goes. It's almost more distracting, at least for me personally, since I can't help but to think "You put on all this effort but for such little payoff." I think that's why after episode 10 the quality is scaled back a bit. Not enough for it to be as stiff and un-cinematic as the earlier content, but instead it feels just right. It isn't overdone in episodes 11 and 12, so to speak.

Picnic was the episode where I really became curious about the lore of salad fingers. It’s still so cool that the ONLY thing Fingers has been terrified by are the words of a little girl. Must have been ages since he’s met someone who speaks English.
@BLZ2312 жыл бұрын
I remember seeing somewhere that one theory as to why he reacted like that was because she seems to have been the only person who spoke to him. Salad fingers is clearly a bit mentally disturbed, as he constantly hops back and forth between various personalities, and he has a habit of speaking for inanimate objects and other people, putting words in their mouths. And since all the other actual people he meets never speak, at least not with words, he’s free to fill in the blanks with his imagination. Except for that little girl. She actually spoke, introducing something unknown and outside of his control, and that’s why she terrified him. Or at least that’s one theory.
@NuclearDuckie022 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's the only time I was really hoping for a direct followup
@LifeInPink999 Жыл бұрын
Must be terrifying when your imaginary friend who you know it's imaginary and speak and answer for him decides to talk to you without your will. He is so terrified because she was not supposed to talk to him or at some point he couldn't difference what was in his mind (the puppet friends for example) and the reality (the girl who joined him). The fact that a little girl joined him for picnic regardless if real or not makes me think that salad fingers must be a kid with a some horrible mental problems lost in this little word he created. Then again it may mean nothing.

I feel like the voice-acting in this series is terribly overlooked (probably because the visuals are so striking). I really love how you voiced Salad Fingers. At first his voice just seems a little odd and creepy, but then as one listens to it he becomes such a fragile, sensitive, HUMAN character. Within his own world, he is a very normal person, one who has said and done some very questionable things (like in the Postman episode) but who has a moral compass and wants to do good just like all of us.

To me, the best thing about Salad Fingers as a character is how there's something lurking just beyond the viewer's understanding, that adds such a special characteristic of unease to our time with Mr. Fingers. And it's almost never clear whether he's narrowly avoiding some colony of traumatic memories, or perhaps the crushing guilt of something. And since Mr. Firth intends no 'Objective, correct' view to the series, there's such an overarching horror to the unknown of Salad Fingers - though he is a human creation, there is such a mystery to his existence, and one which we will likely never see. There's something so special about that.

I thought I recalled someone else saying it years ago, but my own theory is that Salad Fingers represents/is supposed to be a soldier killed in WWI and stuck in purgatory/hell or perhaps still alive but dealing with serious psychosis and PTSD as a result of the horrors of the the war. Because he has the mannerisms and vernacular of that time and mentions on multiple occasions "the great war" the whole series becomes less disturbing and more so incredibly depressing if you look at it from this context

This is the finest example of surrealist media from the 21st century. I'd put it on par with things like eraserhead, meshes of the afternoon, and un chien andalou. The score, the story, the visuals, the fact that it's taken 15 years to unfold. I'm speechless every time I watch it

I think episode 6 19:07 - 23:24 (Present) is the weirdest. It has a certain unpredictability or randomness that is stronger than other episodes. Of course other episodes have a weird concept or strong and confusing visuals but Present takes a deep dive in some of Mr Fingers supposed mental disorders such as DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder)

See the thing with both this and Skinamarink is they absolutely nail the harrowing feeling of isolating childhood terror. As an abuse survivor from early childhood - seeing Skinamarink (in theatres too) was so utterly horrifying for me it was honestly sometimes hard to watch. Not because it was even that violent or surprising but because it reached deep down into the psyche of my childhood self and tore out these memories and feelings that I tried really hard to bury. Bravo for being incredibly talented at recreating the feeling of this.
