Another great surreal take on the systems of oppression we live under. I liked how this one leaned into the normalcy of the bizarre circumstances of corporate greed, literally feeding on the less fortunate. I also really liked the scene with the wheelchair bound man yelling at the main character. It made me think about how reactions to systems of oppression are often taken out of context and framed as too much, but we know that behind the scenes, the main character likely played a role in making life so terrible for the 'malformed' citizens. Really looking forward to seeing the next part.

I have a problem with what you talk, and that's how often ""reactions to system of oppression"" lead to more oppression when it goes unchecked. That's the problem of reactionary movements, witch hunts, conspiracy theories, social media boycotting (cancelations) or even legitimate ideologies like anarchism or socialism when applied on a absolute scale. Basically people should appreciate what they have while pointing the bad, and searching realistic improvement rather than just pretend to be living in the dystopia and inevitably scapegoating. I don't even think that's gonna be the general theme of the series, but is hard to say, Firth always use this dystopian visual landscape and thematic on all sort of videos.

@crumpet575Ай бұрын
@@tomasmax5616 The point is not to be grotesque for the sake of being grotesque lol, it's presented that way for the sake of furthering its social commentary on the depravity of the upper class (in the cannibalism scene at least). I'm not entirely certain just yet what Gice himself (the tiny guy with the top hat) and the resulting imagery is supposed to represent, it's a bit hard to get a full idea of what was being said with the scene censored unfortunately. Based on the chairwoman's response to it though, I have to assume Gice is something or someone the upper class uses to manipulate the will of their citizens (you could interpret this as a lot of things, religion comes to mind most immediately given the other religious allegories present in the video such as with the Gice follower in the wall speaking of Gice's return, mirroring Christian beliefs and positing Gice as a kind of Christ figure), so depending on how you interpret what Gice actually is, the scene could be taken as a representation of ideological/nationalist/religious fervor as a grotesque and off-putting amalgamation of humanity as a collective (hence why the grotesque characters look like they're patched together) being channeled into a blind state of depraved passion and pleasure -- an ideological euphoria -- despite the event itself carrying no actual significance or change to their lives; it's just one of many sensationalist distractions the upper class uses to keep its citizens permanently placated. Or at least that's how I interpreted it, one could probably get a lot of different interpretations from this. Reminds me a bit of The Holy Mountain (1971) by Alejandro Jodorowsky lol.

Is this some commentary about the ruling elite being usually noticeably distinct from the working class by its arrogance, "purity" and holier-than-thou attitude, which generates a lot of animosity and resentment... but that it can transfigure into the role of a Gice, which is sort of a populist, mythical figure that is able to be rethorically and aesthetically simple, vulgar, "dirty" and "sinful" as the masses, which makes him attain incredible popularity and even inspire relief from the people as they come to believe that, after years of ostracism and neglect, there's finally someone truly powerful that's on their side...even though this figure itself is part of the same elite that is woefully committed to its own affairs and power?

I'm going to write an essay on what I think this entire animation means. I have my interpretation, and I think it's a pretty good one. It has a clear contrast between the rich elitists and the people who are less fortunate, like the mentally ill. And I think Gice is a figure head that the elitists created to shut them all up. I mean think about it, Gice just came around saying hi to people, and not really doing anything. He was feeding into the opinion of everyone else, without acting like an individual. Idk something just feels off about the entire situation presented in this film,. And if you take it at face value, I think you would miss the point entirely. But I have way more reasoning. I'm going to subscribe to anyone who shares their opinion on this film as a response to this comment.
@SpearHeadTheAssaultАй бұрын
I think this first animation introduces far too many story threads, making a meaningful interpretation not really possible atm. I think a generalized inference of the elite vs. the unfortunate/poor is an easy one to make, but it's also extremely surface level. I care more about learning about the MC, but also about Gice, as the whole show is named after him. A lot of people seem to like associating him with populists, or the type of establishment-based working class hero, but I really can't say for sure. History is also full of very genuine heroes of the lower rungs of society, but many of them are predominantly unheard of today. Basically, I think all that can be said atm is "Who knows?" I hope part 2 comes quickly 🙏
@red_sirАй бұрын
@@SpearHeadTheAssault Come on bro, I have some nice thoughts and theories about what we've seen so far of Gice. Also questions. I'm noticing a pattern with each of the rich folks having different powers, and abilities. Like Pressman's ability to blow out a giant fire ball. And idk, I just got stuff out of this animation. It was interesting, and I was wondering if it was an allegory for what's going on right now in the world. Also I'm interested to see what's going on with that guy who said that Pressman made him feel like a piece of shit. He seems like he might have some very juicy demons. My point is there is plenty of discussion to have about the few things we saw in this.

@hugoclarke32843 күн бұрын
The man in the closet is Pressman's conscience, I am almost certain of this. Pressman cares about and respects him, but when his conscience protests he shuts him into the back of his mind (closet). This conscience is like an ancestral voice. I do not think the elite control "Gice"; this character is essentially a Trump who fills the void, since the elite are no role model like a Christ, but simply revel in their own sense of superiority. The poor and dishevelled have not forgotten Christ, but Trump is the only one who shows up for them, but Trump himself proves to be a man of virtue by stepping up for the people out of a materialistic life. He becomes his opposite. I am most curious about the fish man at the start. Is that the real Gice?
