Fun fact: Salah ad Din literally means "The Goodness of the Religion" Thank you Dr. Roy for all the lectures and especially this series 🙏🌹
@mwheezee7 ай бұрын
if you're gonna present a "fun fact" do it right then , ok bud ? his real name is Yusuf ibn Ayyab (or Anglicized into Joseph son of Job) of Kurdish decent. his full nickname is "Salah al Din wal Dunya" (Righteous of World and Faith) his title was "Al Malik Al Nasser" (the victorious king) his kunya is "Abu elMuzzafar" (probably his first son, named after "Kukbary" one of Saladin most loyal generals) his Nisba is "Al Tikriti" ( Nisba is a naming system denoting place of birth; in this case "Tikrit" in current day Iraq) his full titulature went as follows: Al-Malik Al-Nasser Abu-l-Muzaffar Salah-ad-Din wa-l-Dunya Yusuf Ibn Ayyab Al-Tikriti

Even funner is His first Name is Yousef, After biblical prophet Joseph, who had famously forgiven his brothers who had sold him into slavery. And his father's name (al-ayyub) was named after the biblical prophet Job, who lost everything but was still faithful and loyal to God. And we know for a fact that his name Youssef was played up for propaganda (in a positive way) as a way to show the muslims how merciful he is, to convince muslims to join.

I like him from a long time ago. But buy the end of the video where he describes the battle of Ain Jalout I was stunned. I have never ever in my life heard this version. Or may be he focused on small details and left the main reason for the win. It was for the Muslims, the last battle to protect the Muslim world.. In fact, when a known historian was tasked to write what was happening, he said/ "what's the point of writing history in the end of time." So the Mamluks Prayed and went to battle but full in faith and fully prepared. One of the most amazing details he skipped is that Damascus was ruled by Salah Eddin's grandchild Anasser. He was indulged in pleasure and didn't care for the Muslim world. When the Mongols were coming, he surrendered the city and fled to Gaza.. When the Mongols captured Palestine, they brought him back to Damascus and asked him about the Muslim army in Egypt and he said that they only had a small army, which was true. However, when the Mamluks knew that the Mongols are underestimating them, they came up with a terrific plan: Qutuz, the Mamluks ruler of Egypt back then, will lead the majority of the army and send scouts ahead to make sure the mongols will follow his army.. While after him another mamulk, Named Bebars, will lead the rest of the army to ambush the Mongols. When the fight started, the Mongols decided to just get down with it fast and go... Qutuz army engaged for a little bit and retreated. The mongols followed of course because they thought they must end it there. Qutuz runs toward where Bebars army was hiding and they caught the Mongols army completely off guard and destroy it and kill the leader of the mongols army in the process. THEREFORE SAVING THE WORLD by the grace of God. One of the most interesting details about the mamluks is that they used to assassinate their leaders regularly .. when I say that I mean it literally lol some rule a few years, some a few months and some a few days... So after the battle by sometime: Bebars stabs Qutuz in the back (literally) and takes the throne. Please watch some documentary about them.. in arabic with translation would be the most accurate. **SPOILER ALERT: when a non-mamulk ruller takes the throne for egypt, he ordered his army, in a scheme he designed, to murder literally every mamulk in egypt. No matter if he was a farmer, merchant, father, soldier..... in every corner of egypt not just Qairo. Later on the Ottoman's came on lol And history goes on... Sorry for the long comment

Just to clear things up about the Shah of the Khwarazmian Empire (which Afghanistan was once part of): there's no evidence he was captured and humiliated by the Mongols. He actually died on an island in the Caspian Sea, probably from illness while fleeing the Mongol invasion. Anyway, I really enjoy Dr. Roy's lectures. They're super informative and use simple language that anyone can understand. I was really hoping he'd talk about the Mamluk Sultan Baibars. In my opinion, Baibars was even better than Saladin-he defeated both the Mongols and the Crusaders, and what's even cooler is that he was enslaved by the Mongols before he became sultan and got his revenge on them. Now, I'm really hoping for a series about Al-Andalus. That would be awesome!
@KhalidofEngland2 ай бұрын
Salaam bro.I definitely think Baibars doesnt get enough credit but i think in terms of being Islamic heroes Salahuddin is the more iconic.admittedly i dont know enough to say that that is fair though.in addition being British the story of 'Saladin' is much more well known in my part of the world
